I stormed onto the field where I expected him to be.

Of course, he's a football player, and from the looks of it, the best one on the field.

That just made me want to hate him even more.

"Xander!" I shouted across the field, catching the eyes of the manicured vultures perched on the bleachers. "Xander Kings!" I repeated but louder.

An subtle eruption of "ooh's" and "ah's" were heard across the field from his friends he was playing with.

He held up a "T" with his arms to the other players before he jogged up to me, a smirk slapped on his face. Gosh, what I would do to slap it off. "Yeah, gem? You missed me?"

"Want to explain this?" I scoffed, holding up the paper.

His smirk faltered, but nonetheless it stayed where it was. He chuckled. Gosh, I was so angry that I was sure a vein was popping out of my forehead.

"You're laughing?" I narrowed my eyes at him, sending him my best death glare I could muster up. "I walked around, being embarrassed by the way, and you're just laughing?"

"It was just a joke, okay?" He held up two hands.

I was practically shaking out of both mortification and disgust. So, I couldn't stop my urge to bring him some sort of punishment. I couldn't seem to find myself when my arm rose up to his face and slapped him in a nanosecond.

His face was thrown to the side, and despite the stinging on my hand, I felt great. The echoing sound of the smack echoed among the observing students.

Did I regret it? Hell no.

"Oh god!" My eyes widened. "I'm so sorry! I'm just really mad at you!"

He chuckled again, rubbing his face. "Yeah, I can tell. I deserved it though."

"Well, you still owe me, Xander Kings," I looked at him for a final time before spinning on my heel and walking away. I heard cheers and hoots and laughs coming from his friend behind me. A smirk slapped its way on my face as I walked away.

It was track practice, lucky me. You know the feeling of your mom making cookies, but not being able to have one? Yeah, that was me, and the cookies were running laps.

"Okay, team!" Coach Segal said after blowing his whistle to get everybody's attention. "Gather 'round!"

I scanned the laps for a certain red-headed Mckenna, only to find that she was here today. Today was shaping to be a great day, wasn't it? I really wished there were more girls on the team, but this was the elite team, and every other girl didn't want to put in that much work. Well, at least at my school they didn't.

I scanned the field for Cooper, but caught a different set of eyes instead. His grey eyes connected with my emerald ones across the field. His cheeks were flushed and his hair semi-drenched with sweat. His white shirt was partially see-through and I couldn't help but stare. He was the picture of the perfect, privileged boy.

Before realizing I was staring, he was closer now along with the rest of the team. I opened my mouth to yell at Xander for being here, but was interrupted by Coach.

"I expect you all to welcome Xander Kings to our team!"

My jaw dropped so far to the floor in shock.

"Since Aurora is suspended temporarily, he'll be the replacement."

Thank god, it's only temporary.

"But even after Aurora's suspension, he'll continue to be on the team due to his fast mile times and hurdling."

Never mind.

Cooper, Brett, Joey, and Will gave Xander pats on the back, more than happy to have one more of their friends on the team. The only one more excited about his recruitment had to be Mckenna.

"Congrats, Xander," she purred, looking up at him under her lashes and putting her manicured hand on his chest. I cringed at the desperation.

Have some self-respect, Mckenna, please.

"Excuse me, can you please repeat that, Coach?" I said with wide eyes, hoping I'm just imagining it.

He rolled his eyes then blew his whistle again. "You know what I said, White. Ten laps for that."

I groaned in annoyance, which was so funny that the team laughed at my suffering.

"Go on, Aurora!" Brett laughed at me. I sent him the death glare in reply.

Coach blew his whistle for the tenth time today. "Brett you go too!"

Today was what I expected hell to be like.

"I can't believe he's on the team!" I whined to Olivia as I lied down on my bed in our shared dorm.

"Better believe it, hun. But I don't know why you're so upset. He's hot, you're hot, your babies will be hot," she smiled cheekily, looking up from her Calculus homework. My nose scrunched up at her comment.

I groaned in annoyance for what seemed like the fiftieth time today. "Whatever. So where were you last night?" I asked, referring to why she wasn't there the night before. Of course, I had a suspicion where she was, but I just need clarification.

"Some guy's room, where else?" she said as if it were so obvious. She and I were so different- I preferred to keep to myself a little bit more than her. But nonetheless, she was one of my best friends, and whatever she chose to do with her body, I wouldn't judge. "I think he's on your team. His name's Brett, ring a bell?"

I nodded. "You really like Brett?"

"I don't know if I actually do or if I'm trying to get over someone," she shrugged, looking down at her pink nails.

"Someone? Are you not telling me the full story?" I gasped like I was offended, but I wasn't, and she knew I was only joking.

"Sorry, I just didn't think you'd care. You just seem so busy lately. You know, with track and your smart people classes. And now Xander since you're dead set on avenging your pride."

I scrunched my eyebrows. I didn't know she felt as though I were neglecting her. "Of course I care. I'll always make room for you. And anyways, you need to help me get my revenge on Xander, so who else better to plot with than you?"

She chuckled and brought her hand up to flip her hair. "Don't mess with him, Rory. Trust me, I want to plot against him for your sake, but that would only lead to more, and we don't need that happening."

"But-"

"No but's. This is for you. And trust me, I know how stupid I can be, but I'm sure that ignoring him is your best decision. Even if he's on your team, you'll have to endure it."

My eyes snapped open, and I briskly sat up in my bed, sweat drizzling down my forehead. My hyperventilating halted to a stop once I focused my breathing to calm down my heart rate. I turned my head to the left to the clock on my nightstand: 2 in the morning.

I glanced to the other side of my small dorm room and, thankfully, Olivia wasn't there. She was probably in some senior's dorm getting laid, like usual. Last time she was present during one of my night terrors in the ninth grade when we were first assigned as roommates, I ended up having to tell her everything.

I popped one more pill that I was prescribed, a tear streaming down my face from the remembrance of what happened at that party two years ago.

That single tear was the calm before the storm. Soon enough, quiet sobs racked my entire body, not easing the weakness running through my head. Those silent tears faded away as my prescribed pill came into effect, successfully leading me into a dream of nothing.

Five hours later, my eyes shot open from the constant ringing emitting from my alarm clock. My hand swatted the snooze button only for it to sound five minutes later.

I pushed myself out of the warmth my bed provided and dragged my feet across the floor to my bathroom.

I pulled my hair into a ponytail and dabbed concealer on my undereyes to bury my tired bags. My basic and simplistic makeup look was completed with a swipe of mascara. I decided on the grey sweatpants that had "SouthRidge High Track" in bold letters on the side and some random hoodie. I finished it off with a pair of my white, semi-dirty converse. It was comfy, and I was in no mood to get all dolled up for school at 8am.

Grabbing my backpack lying on the floor, I unlocked the door and let myself out. Stepping outside, the crisp scent of rain wafted through the morning air.

I had forty minutes until class started. Luckily, that gave me enough time to pick up a coffee and walk to class.

Once I stepped into class five minutes before the bell rang with my half drunk coffee, I scanned the room for Cooper. This was one of the classes we shared: Biology. Only this time, he was sitting with some senior on the football team. A frown smeared across my face as I took a seat in an empty desk next to a sophomore girl who's name I didn't know and didn't care to know.

Taking out my heavy text book and notebook, I set my coffee down in the corner of my desk. The sophomore girl beside me stood up swiftly, grabbed her things and moved to the desk in the back. I looked up to see none other than Xander Kings standing in front of me smirking. Not realizing the entire class was staring at us, I roll my eyes as my head whipped to glare at Cooper for not sitting next to me. In return, he just laughed at my annoyance.

"Fancy seeing you here, gem," Xander greeted smoothly as he threw down his notebook on the desk next to me and sat down, the nickname, again, causing envious girls whispering only rumors about me.

Why can't a guy and a girl just talk without rumors?

"I didn't know you were in this class," I groaned as I dragged my hands down the side of my face. He was in the eleventh grade, like me and Cooper, so I was clueless as to how he was placed here since it was rumored that he never showed up to class. Hell, I didn't even know he was in this class, and it was the second week of the year!

Mrs. Westley made an entrance, a blanket of silence covering the entire class. She scanned the small classroom for any absences.

"Oh, I see Mr. Kings decided to show up for once. How lovely for you to join us. Most of the students probably didn't even know you were in this class due to all your absences."

Xander leaned back in his chair and propped his right leg on his left knee. "I don't believe it's necessary for me to attend when I clearly understand everything. Correct me if I'm wrong, Mrs. Westley, but it just seems like a waste of time for me to study things I've already learnt."

"Well, it still is necessary for you to attend, despite your grades," she sharply replied before alternating the topic to our current lesson. From my lack of sleep, I had unconsciously spaced out. I would just read over the materials later today.

While slipping into sleep, I felt a pen prodding my shoulder. I snapped my head over to Xander and shrugged him off.

"We're all in this together," Xander whisper-sang as he prodded me with my pen that I let him borrow, "Once we know, who we are. We're all stars, and we see that-"

"Please shut up," I practically screeched at him, causing Mrs. Westley to give me a pointed look. The only noise being Cooper's quiet laughs from my getting in trouble.

"Miss White?" my aging English teacher asked as she tilted down her glasses.

"I think you meant soon-to-be Mrs. Kings," Xander interjected with an amusement sketched in his features as he looked at me. The stuffy room's only sound was the whispering of the gossiping students taking the joke seriously.

Mrs. Westley shook her head full of grey hair, as if to rid herself of annoyance just as the bell rang, dismissing us all from prison, but most would call it school.
