The hands of the clock pointed at the numbers, clear and concise. The cage is set. The only thing missing is a helpless little bird. I tapped my foot once again and waited. Be patient. Mother always said I had a nasty temper. She always shouted at me and said she regretted having me because everything about me is a mistake. That made me laugh. Was there anything that I did right?

The strong flames was quickly melting away the candles but it doesn't matter. I can replace it. Everything is replaceable. A new one is always better. She appeared before my eyes, the poor little thing, but she'll be put out of misery pretty soon.

"I'm here." She grinned, making an effort to look nice for the night but it was such an eyesore. I didn't like the color of the rags that hugged her body. "I look funny, don't I?"

I chuckled, "Would it be mean if I said yes?"

She frowned a little, checking her mediocre dress once again and her mismatched shoes. "It's all I have.."

"Come with me." I told her and I took her smaller hand in mine, guiding her into my room. She stopped and tugged on my hand, "What's the matter?"

"I-I can't come into a guy's room." Chaeyoung stared at her feet, probably at her awful shoes too.

"I'm not a stranger and I won't do anything to you. I promise." I reassured her with one smile. That's all it takes for every one of them.

"Okay.." She said. Foolish enough to ignore her own instincts.

"I want you to go in there and change." I said as I point towards my closet. "There's a dress and a pair of shoes to match for you."

"I'm fine with my clothes though." She replied, hesitantly.

"Chaeyoung." I placed my hands on her shoulder and made her look at me. "I just want to make you forget about your life right now. That's what you've always wanted, right? To forget that you can't afford the things that you want, to not be reminded that you're not deserving of nice things? Just this once. Forget about all that and enjoy the moment."

She nodded and I showed her a smile, my hand cupping her cheek, "You'll love what I prepared for you. Change comfortably. I'll be waiting outside."

"Oh Jimin, it's too beautiful." Chaeyoung's eyes twinkled as she gazed at her reflection in the mirror, wearing the red satin dress I bought. "How can something be this pretty? But I can't pay for this."

"No need, Chaeyoung. It's yours to keep it. Use it as you like." I said and her eyes widened, making me chuckle.

"R-Really?" She looked at her reflection again and then her hands came to smooth down the material of the dress, familiarizing the texture of it under her palms. "I can really keep it?"

"Yes, it's okay. Looks on pretty on you." I gave her a smile, staring at her. "Very pretty. I hope you like the color. It is my favorite color."

"It is pretty. Thank you so much, Jimin." She beamed at me once again, glowing. "I honestly have never been to a date before so I didn't know what I'd wear. That's one reason and the other is, I don't really have money to buy fancy things like dresses and nice shoes."

"That's why I told you. You can keep it." I place my hand on her shoulder aand leaned down close to her ear. "Think of it as a birthday gift from me."

"Now come. I have another thing to show you." I added with another smile as I held my hand out to her and, like a sheep, lead her outside where I set up a small dinner.

"Wow, Jimin. Did you do all this?" She walked out to the small patio and marveled at the lights all around her.

She spun around and I surprised her with a rose. "For you, the birthday girl."

What better way to win a girl over than the classic sweet gentleman? This is too easy for me. All women are the same. And once again, she was glowing like a star about to be eaten by a witch who is desperate for immortality. I guess, I'm the same.

All night, she smiled across the table from me. She had absolutely no idea what's coming to her, what she is getting herself into. In the end, she's just going to be just another petal that falls from its stem. Just like how the children's song goes. Ah, yes, my mother's favorite. The one she always sing for me and one of my earliest memories of her.

Ring a ring of roses.

"Chaeyoung, have you tried red wine before?" I stood up and reached for the bottle that I've especially prepared for tonight.

A pocket full of posies.

"Oh, I've never tasted wine before." She looked up at me, lips agape. Those lips I want to paint red. "Is it okay for me to drink? I'm not yet of legal age."

"You should break the rules sometimes, you know? Besides, I won't tell anyone." I showed her a smile, opening the bottle and filling her glass half-full. "Come on. Just one glass. It's even a special wine. I was thinking of putting it on my restaurant menu but I have to try it first. Why not try it with me?"

Ashes, ashes,

"It even looks very expensive. But, um, okay. I guess I can try it.. just one glass." She agreed, her fingers wrapping around the glass, watching as the burgundy liquid swirled gently. Chaeyoung smiled back, "Since you prepared it."

"Just one glass," I replied, eyes never leaving hers as she tipped the glass to her lips. "It'll make you feel a little dizzy at first but that's okay.. I'll bring you home safely."

they all fall down.

"Get up."

Yoongi had barely slept a wink when his junior partner came busting into the room. A cup of his favorite Iced Americano in hand to appease him. He turned away from him and curled up, knees bending towards his stomach, pulling the covers up to his chin, "If it's not important, I'll handle it later. I spent the whole night going over everything about the murder case."

"You know I really hate waking you up and being on the receiving end when you're in a bad mood. Unfortunately, this is important." The younger guy sighed, digging one of his hands in his pocket, "I just received a call. We have the 20th victim."

Yoongi is certainly awake after hearing him. He sat up and grabbed his jacket, "Let's go."

"Drink this." Hoseok handed him the cup of coffee. "Maybe we should grab breakfast on the way? I don't think my stomach can handle it when we get to the crime scene."

"It's been seven months since you were transferred to the Violent Crimes Unit. You should be getting used to this by now." Yoongi took a sip of coffee before hitting his stomach lightly, "I suggest not eating. It's easier to puke with an empty stomach."

"Is it better?" Hoseok tilted his head to the side. "It does makes sense a little. Oh, I'm having an upset stomach already just by thinking about it."

A heavy sigh escaped from Yoongi's lips, "Ah, this psycho is really pissing me off."

Ten years as a detective, Yoongi has gotten used to the blaring sirens, the flashes of red and blue, the crowd that's always present waiting to know what's the commotion about, the short walk inside a crime scene, the smell as you're about to meet a dead person, blood splatters everywhere.. it's always gruesome and unsettling. The kind that will make your stomach churn.

"I'm gonna vomit." Hoseok grips at Yoongi's arm after seeing the dead victim, lying in her own pool of blood. He quickly makes a run to the bathroom.

Meanwhile, Yoongi flashes his identification to the officers on site, "Min Yoongi from Violent Crimes Unit. That was my partner, Detective Jung Hoseok, getting busy in the bathroom."

He squatted down and removed the cover of the corpse, "Can someone give me a briefing?"

"Yes, the victim was identified as Kim Mina, worked as an escort for high officials. She was found dead by her friend two days after she was murdered. She has no wounds anywhere on her body except for her.. private part." The officer read everything off from a notebook while Yoongi kept on assessing the scene. "We haven't ruled out yet if the victim was raped but we called the forensics team to check."

"I can only think of one suspect. Yoongi, you know who I'm talking about right?" Hoseok stumbled in, still nauseated but trying his best not to show it on his face. "The smell is horrible.. I need to puke again."

"Try not to" Yoongi only caught sight of his partner's back as he hurried back to the toilet, knocking over a table on the way, "destroy any evidence.."

Yoongi sighed but just as he was about to turn his head, his eyes noticed something glinting underneath. He donned a pair of gloves and took a specimen bag, picking up a thin needle, almost invisible to the eye.
