Drew and I are sitting on the couch in my living room, me on one end and him on the other. A chemistry book is open between us, and I'm helping him work through a packet on stoichiometry.

"So," he frowned, twirling his pencil in between his fingers. "You start with the given value... over 1?" He looks up at me for confirmation.

I nod. "That's right. Now in this problem, what is the unit on the given value?"

Drew looks back down at his worksheet before glancing up at me. He shrugs. "It has a little g next to the number, but I don't know what it means."

Oh boy.

I sigh before moving the book onto the floor and scooting over to where Drew is. Leaving a foot of space in between us, I push off thoughts of the kiss and his perverted ways in the interest of teaching him.

"Do you know what a unit is?" I ask.

"Um... not really?" Drew has the decency to look sheepish, and I sigh, my shoulders sagging. I guess my work is cut out for me.

Two hours later, Drew understood what a unit was and how to do stoichiometry. To say I'm proud would be an understatement.

We both get up after Drew packs his backpack, and I walk him out to the garage. We stand awkwardly for a few seconds, my hands in my pockets, before Drew clears his throat.

"Well, bye, I guess. Thanks." His voice seems distracted, and I assume he's thinking about Jean's party. I simply nod and turn to go back inside, when his hands grabs my wrist and turns me back around.

"Hey, nerd. You should come to Jean's party tonight. We can hang out together." I snort, ripping my hand away from his grasp.

"Yeah right, jerk. Just how many girls are you getting with?" He opens his mouth to reply but I cut him off. "You know what, never mind. I don't want to know. Just know that I will not get with you. Ever." With that, I spin on my heel and go inside, slamming the door behind me.

I sink down against the door, heart pounding. Why is it pounding? All I did was tell off a sexy, hot, conceited jerk more concerned with partying than passing his classes.

I get up and walk back to the couch, where I see Sam sprawled across the pillows. I shove his legs off and sit, sinking back into the cushions with a sigh.

"Rough day?" He asks, turning to glance at me.

"You have no idea."

Kaitlyn slams the door shut, leaving me on her driveway.

Wow. I've never been rejected before. I decide I don't like the feeling.

While walking down to my car, I glance back up at Kaitlyn's house, catching a glimpse of her walking up the stairs through one of the large front windows. As if she senses me, her head turns and I see her eyes narrow before she flips me off.

"I'm hurt, baby," I drawl, even though I know she can't hear me. My heart twinges a little bit, but I ignore it, putting it down to stress. Kaitlyn means nothing to me, anyway. She's just tutoring me so my father doesn't disown me if I get kicked off the basketball team.

Just a tutor. That's all.

If she's just a tutor, then why does rejection hurt so bad?

A few minutes after Sam and I were on the couch, I got a call from Beth. I head upstairs to take it, but while I'm halfway up I feel someone's gaze on me. I turn around and look out the window to see Drew's gorgeous- I mean ugly- face.

Seriously, can he not? I flip him off and scamper up the last few stairs, accepting Beth's call.

Striding down the hallway to my room, I close the door behind me and jump onto my turquoise butterfly chair.

"What's up Beth?" I say, absently twirling a piece of brown hair with my finger.

"So," she begins, "there's this party happening tonight and I think we should go. You know, get that high school experience." Is she crazy?

"Are you crazy?" I almost yell. "First of all, it's a Monday night. Secondly, I'm not going to leave Sam here by himself. And thirdly, that party is Jean Summers', and Drew is going to be there. No thank you."

"Well, I can't change the fact that it's Monday, but what about Jordan? Can't he watch Sam?"

"No, he can't. Jordan is at Peyton's house. Big surprise there, I know, but I think they're going to start dating soon, and I ship them too hard to interrupt any possible 'ask-out' moments. Besides, Jordan wouldn't be too happy with me going to a party anyway." Please, God, please let her see my logic.

"Hmm... too bad. Come on, Lyn, live a little! Sam is 15; he's old enough to stay home by himself. And as for Drew, who cares? Since when did you care about him anyway?" She makes good points, and I find myself nodding, even though she can't see me.

Beth takes my silence as hesitation. "Please, Lyn. It'll be fun. I bet we can even get Parker to come too. What do you say, are you in?" I sigh.

"I'm in."

Beth parks her car on the side of the road a few houses down from Jean's, and the three of us (Parker, Beth, and myself) step out of the car. The cool October air hits my face and I shiver, pulling my jacket closer around me.

Beth has me dressed in black leggings, a loose white crop top that falls right above my belly button, and a red leather jacket. On my feet are white Converse, and a piece of gold statement jewelry is hanging around my neck. She says I look good, but I'm taking it with a grain of salt. She curled my hair and did my makeup, black eyeliner, mascara, and gold eyeshadow.

In the mirror in my bedroom, I thought it looked slightly garish, but Beth assured me that 'it would be dark in there', and I wouldn't have to worry about that.

Back to the party. Beth links arms with me and Parker walks slightly behind us because of the narrow sidewalk. We reach Jean's front lawn, and I'm already disgusted. Couples are making out, there are random bits of clothing all over, even hanging from the mailbox, and a few guys are hanging out of a window from the upper floor, clearly drunk.

Party. Yay.

"Beth, can we leave now? I don't like this." I try to plead with her, but she has her mind set on attending this party, and when Beth sets her mind to something, it gets done.

"Relax, Lyn. It's going to be okay, and if you're worried about making it home on time, I called Jordan and asked if you could stay over at my place tonight. My parents and Luke are staying a few extra days at my grandparents' because my grandma broke her hip, so they're going to take care of her. He said yes, because I'm that convincing, and voila. You're sleeping over." I try to get a more suitable answer out of her, but nothing else seems forthcoming.

Her silence doesn't reassure me, and so I twist to look back at Parker, who has his hands in his pockets. "Parker," I whine. "Make Beth let me go home."

"Sorry Lyn, no can do. I want to retain my friendship with her, thank you very much. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?"

*two hours later*

"I'M GONNA DO A FLIP!" I scream, standing on top of a table in the middle of the crowded room. My jacket has long since been discarded, and my makeup is definitely smudged from sweat. My head is buzzing and I can barely focus, but I can't find it in myself to care.

I'm about to launch myself off the table into the crowd when a hand tugs my wrist, and I stumble forward. A pair of strong arms quickly wraps around my waist and pulls me off the table into a hard chest. The buzz in my head quickly turns into dizziness, and I begin seeing black spots.

"Ooh, stars," I grin happily, and reach an arm up to try and grab one. I'm met with nothing but air, and my face falls into a frown. "I wanted the stars," I pout, and the person carrying me adjusts me so I'm being carried bridal style. He chuckles.

"If you want to see stars, then let's go outside." The voice is low, but I can't quite place it. My head is too busy spinning around, and I can feel darkness closing in.

"I'm tired," I yawn, and snuggle up to the person's chest. Cold air washes over me, and even in my inebriated state I can tell that we are now outside.

"Look at the stars, Kaitlyn. You want them, but the only star I see is you." Lips brush my forehead as my eyes close, and sleep overcomes me.

A/N Fangirling hard at my own writing right now *laughs*

Thoughts!

Who thinks it's Drew?

Who thinks it's Parker?

Who thinks it's some random person?

I don't have time for a long note, as it's 11 pm and I have to get up early tomorrow, so I'll just say thanks again for all the votes and comments; I really love you guys for it :)
