Olivia

Cassie sounded very hoarse as she spoke her first words in what felt like a lifetime. It sounded like music to my ears. She winced in pain, clearing her throat softly from the stress that using her voice put on her after three weeks.

My hand seemed to automatically grab for her's, putting it up to my face. I felt as if I was dreaming.

"Cassie?" I questioned once more as if I was trying to convince myself that what my eyes were seeing and what my hands were touching was real.

Cassie's fingers brushed across my cheek lightly as she opened her mouth, preparing to speak. She looked exhausted, like every sound or movement that she made drained her.

"I-I think you've said enough." She breathed out, a half-smile tugging at the edges of her pale lips. "I heard you...well, some of the cheesy ass speeches you gave at least." She laughed, rolling her eyes.

I couldn't help but join in her laughter, shaking my head at her impeccable sense of humor and sarcasm. Without a doubt, she was still Cassie, and I was undeniably happy to have my best friend back.

"Wait, you heard me?"

Cassie nodded her head but then pulled her brows together as if contemplating her answer. "Well, parts of what you were saying...I could hear but not really understand sometimes. I don't know how to explain it, babes. But I knew when it was you or Russ or Jason. I think I heard my mom at some point too."

"Both of your parents were here," I assured her. "They came the day after the accident and stayed for two whole weeks...your mom had to be peeled away from your side."

"Two weeks?!" She exclaimed, causing herself to cough harshly. Her hand clutched at her chest in response, alarming me as I watched.

"Cass, are you okay? We should call a doctor in and let them know you're up." I stated, searching for the call button on her bed.

"Olivia...two weeks?" She repeated, grabbing my hand in her much colder ones, stopping me in my tracks.

My eyes drifted over to her, examining the sudden panic that had replaced the once mellow look in her eyes.

"Technically, almost three Cass, let me call the doctor. You don't look so well..." I trailed off, feeling my heart rate pick up in my chest.

"Olivia," Cassie stated firmly, catching me off guard once more. "My baby."

"Cassie, he's-"

"No...no." She whispered, feeling her stomach and then lifting her gown, revealing the large bandage covering the incision from her c-section. "My baby Olivia, what happened to my baby?" She panicked, growing more and more hysterical by the second.

She struggled in the bed, attempting to move her legs to sit up, but she couldn't.

"Cass, wait a minute, just listen to me," I begged. "You had to have an emergency c-section this morning...not even two whole hours ago. Not only that but your pelvis is practically shattered, so try to stop moving so much."

I watched in horror as Cassie began to hyperventilate before rushing to push the call button that I had finally located on the remote beneath her blanket.

Within seconds her doctor and nurses rushed into the room to see what was going on. For a moment, each of them was merely shocked to see her awake,  but that quickly turned to concern once they took in her demeanor.

"My baby!" She yelled out, shoving away everyone away who tried to touch her. "Where's my baby?!"

"Your baby is in the NICU, honey. He's okay, but I need you to calm down." Her doctor asserted. He also yelled out an order to one of the nurses for some type of medication; I'm assuming to calm her down.

"I need to see him." Cassie cried, attempting to tear off her oxygen supply, but the doctor grabbed her hand, stopping her mid pull.

"Cassie, your leg is broken, your pelvis is broken, you just had a c-section, and your brain is still recovering from all the trauma that it's been through. I need you to calm down, and then we can see about you visiting your baby, okay?"

"But he's all alone." She whined, tears falling from her eyes. "He's all alone, and I've never seen him. I've never touched him...he hasn't felt his mama's presence there beside him."

"I know, honey." He soothed her, attempting to listen to her heart and lung sounds through his stethoscope. "Let's get you taken care of so you can take care of your little one, okay? "I'm so happy to see you awake." He smiled in an attempt to calm her down. "Are you feeling any pain?"

"I don't care about my pain," Cassie cried. "I-I was only 5, maybe six months pregnant, right? Is my baby going to make it?"

"We're going to get you all the information you need from your baby's pediatrician, okay? He's in great hands in our NICU, I assure you. Now Let me take care of you so that we can get you to him as fast as possible, okay? I can't let you go until I know you're okay." His voice was gentle as he spoke as if he had genuine sympathy for Cassie's situation.

Cassie hesitated for a moment but nodded her head and relaxed back into her pillow, wincing in pain as she did so.

I stepped into the hall and immediately dialed up Jason. He answered on the first ring.

"Hey sweetheart, it's taking a little longer than we e-"

"Jase." I cut him off. "Cassie woke up."

"She what?"

"She woke up." I cried, nodding my head as if he were able to see it. "Tell Russ, and you guys come back now, we can eat later, okay? She's talking and everything, but she's freaking out about the baby. Russ should be here."

"O-okay, we're coming right now!" He shouted, hanging up the phone.

I walked back into Cassie's hospital room just as the doctor was finishing up his work upon her.

"I think you're doing remarkably well, Cassie. You're progressing a lot faster than almost any patient I've ever seen come out of the situation that you were in...I'm going to order a few tests, and I'll also contact NICU and see about having someone tell you what's going on with your little one."

Cassie nodded her head, shutting her eyes tightly as the doctor walked out of the room.

"I called the boys, told them you were up, and they're coming right now."

Cassie opened her eyes, a frown pulling at her lips. "My poor Russ, I can't imagine what he's been through with the baby and me...I can't imagine what you've been through, Liv."

"I'm fine, Cass. I'm fine now that you're talking." I assured her, sitting on the edge of her bed once more.

Cassie placed her hand over mine, smiling up at me with tired, brown eyes. The medication they had given seemed to be working to calm her immediately.

"I feel so weird...I can't move my legs." She sighed.

"Well, you just had a c-section...plus you're coming out of an induced coma. So I can imagine." I giggled, stroking her hair.

Cassie's smile faded at the mention of her c-section. Her hands fell to her stomach, gently resting over the healing wound beneath the fabric of her gown. "I'm so worried about him." She whispered. "I've never seen him...I feel spent at this point."

"I-I heard you named him Grayson...Grayson Cade Sullivan." Cassie's smile returned as I tried to make mentioning him more lighthearted.

"Yeah... the last thing I remember before the accident was texting Russ back that I had decided to go with that name."

"It's precious," I assured her. "Such a fitting name."

"Thank you, babes." She smiled, "I knew you would like it. I was going to tell you but then-"

"Yeah." I grimaced, shaking my head.

Cassie?!" Russ yelled out, the heavy door to her hospital room flying open as if it weighed nothing. "Oh my god, baby!" He cried out, rushing to her side, touching her as if he couldn't believe she was real.

I walked over to Jason, who stood by the door, gently closing it so that it wouldn't slam. I wanted to let them have their moment.

Jason smiled at me before looking over at Cassie, who was being wholly bombarded by a very concerned but extremely excited Russ.

"I'm so happy you're up Cass, we missed you." He waved, to which she gently waved back.

"Let's give them some space?" I asked, tugging Jason toward the door.

Jason nodded his head, following me outside of the hospital room. Immediately I dove into his arms, erupting into sobs.

"Baby girl don't cry." Jason shushed, holding me tightly against his large frame.

"I'm just so happy." I choked out between my sobs. "I'm so, so happy."

Jason leaned down and pressed a kiss lovingly to my forehead, brushing back the damp hairs that were sticking to my cheeks.

"I know, sweetheart, I'm happy too...even happier to see you smiling again." He whispered, stroking my cheek with his thumb. "What do you say we head home for a bit now that we know she's okay? I want you to eat and get some rest." He insisted. "Plus, I'm sure they have a lot of stuff to talk about together."

"Okay." I nodded, sinking into his side as he reached for the door handle.

Jason and I stepped back into Cassie's room to say our goodbyes for the night. For some reason, that hug that I gave Cassie was one of the hardest I ever had to let go of. I just wanted to hold onto her forever out of fear that she would slip back into her previous state if I lost sight of her for too long.

"Go home and come back to see me tomorrow babes...I'm kind of pissed that you haven't been eating..." She snapped, lifting her brows at me questioningly.

I glanced over at Russ with slitted eyes. "You ratted on me?"

He shrugged his shoulders. "It's for your own good, and now you have to listen to her."

"You better." Cassie warned, coughing right after.

"I will Cass...I love you. Keep us updated on the baby." I requested, lacing my fingers with Jason's.

"We will." Russ smiled as he stroked Cassie's hair. "Get outta here you two."

We waved before heading out of the room and down the hallway of the hospital. Jason threw his arm across my shoulders, pulling me into his side.

"So what would you like for your first real meal in like I don't know long?" Jason questioned with a laughed as we walked into the parking lot.

"Can we pick up sushi please?...maybe a bottle of wine?"

"Anything you want sweetheart."

Jason and I arrived home with food and wine in hand. We sat everything down at the kitchen table that hadn't been used in weeks. We hadn't shared a meal at home since the accident happened, and it almost felt weird to be doing so now.

I reached for the California rolls that I ordered and began to eat them, savoring the taste of the delicious food on my tongue. Truthfully, I was starving, but I couldn't bring myself to eat with everything going on.

The sound of something falling and splatting against a plate caught my attention mid-chew. Giggles erupted from inside me as I glanced up at Jason, who had just dropped his piece of sushi right before putting it into his mouth.

"Do you want a fork babe?" I teased with a laugh.

Jason rolled his eyes at me, attempting to pick it up once more but struggling.

"You've never been good with them Jase, let me get you a fork." I insisted, but he shook his head in response.

"I've got this, watch." He smiled, carefully picking up the roll he dropped and bringing it halfway to his mouth before it fell again.

Both of us erupted in laughter at his failed effort as he tossed the chopsticks aside. "Fine, I'll take a fork."

I reached across the table and picked up the now misshapen roll that Jason was trying to eat with my chopsticks, holding it up to his mouth.

"Here." I feed him with a chuckle.

"Mmm, you know, one day I'll get it, right sweetheart." He nodded matter of factly, his mouth full of food.

"Sure baby, maybe after another decade you'll finally get it." I laughed, watching as his jaw dropped in fake surprise.

Jason and I ate the rest of our dinner together, simply enjoying one another's company. It was so refreshing to talk about random, light-hearted things once again. Jason spent half of the time catching me up on the most recent drama that had gone down at the station. Firefighters were like one big family, and sometimes that included family drama. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't entirely amused by it all.

As we finished loading the last of the plates into the dishwasher, I let out a deep sigh, stretching my arms up and yawning. "I'm gonna take a shower."

Jason shook his head, pulling me into his arms. "Let me run you a hot bath instead sweetheart. You deserve it after everything you've been through."

My eyes found Jason's soft blue orbs gazing down at me. I draped my arms loosely around his neck, letting my head fall to the side as I took in his sweet offer.

"That sounds nice, baby, thank you." I whispered, playing with the hair at the nape of his neck.

"Of course, I just want you to relax tonight...and get back to being the Liv I know and love." He smiled, brushing his thumb gently across the heated skin of my cheek.

Leaning up onto my tip-toes, I pressed my lips to Jason's sincerely, passionately. I savored every moment that kiss had to offer. The taste of his sweet lips, the feeling of his hands sliding across the curves of my body, and the way both our hearts raced in our chests that were pressed firmly together.

Over the last few weeks, I felt as if I had neglected Jason's needs. We hadn't shared moments like this since before the accident, and before the accident, we were fighting. I felt like a bad partner in a way, although Jason never for a second did anything to make me feel like I was.

He understood, he always understood and that made me feel even worse about it. Jason wasn't perfect but he was the epitome of an immeasurably loving boyfriend and he deserved that back.

"I love you so much Jason." I whispered, my hands resting on his toned pecs. "I hope you know that...because I don't think I've shown it lately."

Jason's lips fixed themselves into the handsome crooked smile that never failed to send my heart fluttering. "I know you do sweetheart," He started, pulling his brows together. "But I also know that you went through one of the hardest times of your life these past few weeks, and it was my job to be there for you."

"Butt-"

"Shhh." He shushed me, shaking his head. "Sometimes I'm going to have to give a little more and vice versa...that's just life. Things happen, bad things happen and we have to be there to pick each other up...we always do, don't we?."

Jason pressed a tender kiss to my forehead as my eyes began to water. The way he looked down at me with so much regard, so much passion sent shockwaves throughout my body.

"You always leave me wondering what the hell I did to deserve you." I laughed, wiping away the stray tears that had fallen as he spoke. "I never pictured myself being in a relationship like this...where everything is just full of love." I smiled, placing my hand on his cheek. "I know we had a moment, but we were able to come back from it, you, you tried so hard to make things right and I-I still don't know what to think of all that sometimes." I paused, wrapping my arms around him and holding him close.

Jason's tall stature towered over me, his arms wrapped tightly around my body as my face burrowed into the crook of his neck. My lips brushed against his warm skin as I spoke. "But I do know that I love you. If I don't know anything else, I know that."

"I love you too sweetheart, you're home to me." He professed, holding my head in his hands and pressing his lips tenderly against mine. "Now let me get that bath started for you okay? How about you pick out a movie for us to watch after."

I smiled, wrapping my arms around his waist, not ready to let him go.

Jason chuckled as he glimpsed down at me. "Are you gonna let me go?"

"No." I huffed, tightening my hold on him. "I want you more than I want a bath."

"You can have as much of me as you want after your bath, how's that sound?" He winked and instantly my face went beet red.

The shock was quickly replaced with a feeling of promiscuity as the lust in his eyes met mine.

"But...why after the bath?" I teased, biting down on my bottom lip. My eyes scanned up and down the length of Jason's body, still unmistakably toned beneath the clothing he wore.

Jason's brows shot up in surprise as one of my hands found its way to the waistband of his jeans, my fingers fumbling with the button. It had been a month since Jason and I were intimate. A month since I felt his bare skin against mine, his warm breath against the crook of my neck as we both struggled to catch our breath, his hands running against the curves of my body, handling them no less than perfect.

Without another word, Jason lifted me from my feet effortlessly and plopped me down on the cool granite countertop. His lips smashed into mine so intensely that I could taste the desire in them. His hands pulled my top off in one swift movement leaving my chest completely bare to him.

He stopped and just looked for a moment. All I could imagine was his lips engulfing my tender, erect nipples in his mouth, one after the other. Before I could even blink again my thoughts had become reality. My lips parted as a moan unwillingly slipped from deep within as he licked and sucked on the tender skin of my breasts.

My eyes fluttered shut as I felt one of his fingers slip into leggings, rubbing up and down the folds of my sweet spot over the fabric of my underwear.

"I've hardly done anything and you're already so wet." He rasped, looking me dead in the eyes.

I gazed right back at him examining his blue orbs. I'd never seen cool blue eyes become so hot with desire in my life.

"All you have to do is look at me."

Jason waisted no time to rid the both of us of what clothing remained on our bodies. My legs hooked themselves around his waist as he pulled me to the edge of the countertop. The tips of him brushed against my inner thigh, sending my nerves into a frenzy.

In one fluid motion, Jason pushed himself inside of me, both of us gasping as our bodies tingled with pleasure. Our lips pressed together as he began to move, slowly at first but he quickly decided that wasn't going to do it.

His name rolled off my tongue as he thrusted faster and harder. My nails dug into his back as he leaned forward over my body causing his torso to apply pressure and friction against my sensitive, pulsating nub.

"God I fucking missed this." He moaned into my ear, sending its separate wave of pleasure throughout my entire body. Just knowing that I was capable of pleasing him, making him shudder and moan was enough to bring me over the edge.

My arms trembled, failing to hold me up anymore as I braced the orgasm that tore through my core, expanding throughout my entire body.

Jason snaked one of his muscular arms around me just as I almost hit the granite beneath me, holding me close to him as he continued to pump harder and faster, only intensifying my peak. I could feel his thrusts becoming sloppy as he grew more rigid inside of me.

He let out one last moan, signifying his release as I wrapped my arms loosely around his neck. Our sweat-covered foreheads pressed together as we fought to catch our breath.

"I guess we're going to have to reclean the counter." I laughed breathlessly.

Jason chuckled before
