We pulled off the highway about ten minutes later and slowly made our way towards a hotel I had looked up on my phone. The snow had let up just a little so we could see easier but Logan stayed at a slow pace. Every so often looking over at me.

There wasn't much traffic on the road, others probably having the same idea as us. I wasn't sure what town we were in but it was better than getting stuck on the freeway in this snowstorm.

A small sigh escaped my lips as we finally spotted the hotel up ahead. The parking lot was fairly full as we pulled in. I just hoped there were a couple of available rooms for Logan and I.

Thankfully our suitcase were weather proof because they were pretty much covered when Logan grabbed two from the bed of the truck. I stood there like a loser watching as he moved the others inside the back of the truck, snow raining down on me.

"Come on." With a gentle hand on my lower back, Logan lead us towards the front of doors. I leaned closer to his side freezing.

Warm air hit my face as we walked into the hotel. As we headed for the front desk I looked around briefly, noting it was a nice hotel. At least we weren't stuck at some hole in the wall motel.

I was busy looking trying to stop trembling to realize Logan was already talking to someone at the front desk. A light pressure on my back made me turn my attention to what was being said.

"I think we have one room left." The clicking of a keyboard met my ears. One room? "Ah yes we have one room left up on the fourth floor." I dared a glance up at Logan but he looked at the guy calmly.

"We'll take it."

"Uh." I went to say but his hand moved to my waist and squeezed it gently. I clamped my lips closed.

Sharing a room together isn't that big of a deal. More likely there's going to be two beds so it won't be that awkward. Plus I'm a grown woman and Logan's a grown man. We can be mature enough to share a room.

While I was slightly freaking out about sharing a room, Logan paid and got our room key. I didn't have it in me to argue about him paying, I'll bring it up tomorrow.

I was still shaken up by what happened on the freeway, now add in spending the night with Logan, I was all over the place.

The two of us were quiet as we headed for the elevator. The hotel was pretty quiet even though it was only noon. The weather no doubt making everyone stay in their rooms.

I was very much aware of Logan as we stood side by side in the elevator. How could I not notice the 6'2, pure muscle of a man next to me radiating heat like my own personal furnace. He still had his hand my waist, almost like he couldn't bring himself to stop touching me.

I wasn't going to complain. Not when him being this close to me made me feel safe. I did feel embarrassed about my mini freak out in the truck. Embarrassed Logan had to see it.

As soon as I stepped foot in the room I froze. Staring back at me was a single bed. One bed for two of us. Of course. Just my luck the only room available had only one bed.

"I'll take the couch." Logan spoke over my shoulder.

"You don't have to-"

"I'll take the couch." He said more firmly, brushing past me to get further in the room. I stared at his back trying to ignore the fluttering in my stomach.

Tearing my eyes away from him I looked around the room. It was surprisingly big. A big bed off to the side, across from it a couch and some chairs with a table. There was even a little kitchen and a fridge.

Rolling my suitcase off to the side I went over to the window, pulling back the blinds. Our room overlooked what seemed like a clearing with tons of trees, a few houses scattered around. Snow was now falling generously making it look really pretty.

"You should probably call your brother and let him know what's going on." Logan spoke up. Oh right my brother. He was probably going out of his mind since I haven't texted him in the last little bit.

Reaching into my pocket I pulled out my phone, seeing at least 7 unread messages from my brother. The last one came through five minutes ago.

"You know you have to touch your phone to make a call."

"Gee thanks I didn't know that." I sent him a look. I just didn't want to hear my brother's 'I told me so'. I already felt bad we were later getting on the road because I wanted to stop at the bakery.

"Okay, here we go." I muttered, dialing his number and bringing it to my ear. It only took one ring before my brother picked up.

"Why haven't you answered my texts?"  Was the first thing out of his mouth.

"So about that..." I trailed off.

"What did you do?"

"Why do you assume I did something?"

"Liv this is you we are talking about."

"That's so unfair!" In the background I heard shuffling before Aubrey's voice came through.

"Stop being rude to your sister." Followed by a loud 'thump' and Knox saying 'ow'. I grinned although they couldn't see me. "Where are you guys?" She asked.

"Well it started snowing really hard so Logan pulled over in some town. We are staying the night at a hotel until it lets up." I didn't mention the fact we skidded, knowing how my brother would react.

"I told you to leave earlier why didn't you-" Aubrey cut my brother off.

"You made the right decision. Stay there until it clears up and then head up."

"Let me talk to Logan." Knox demanded, cutting in. With a sigh I pulled the phone away from my ear and turned to Logan.

"Here." Who knew what my brother was going to say to him. Logan looked at me with a raised eyebrow before taking the phone. I shot him a 'I'm-sorry' look. Logan may be my brothers best friend but I knew my brother and how protective he could be of me.

Letting Logan talk to my brother I went over to my suitcase. Might as well get comfortable cause from the looks of it we weren't leaving this room for awhile. While I rifled through my suitcase for my toiletry bag I could hear Logan 'hm-ing' and saying 'of course' a lot behind me. My brother was probably giving him an earful.

Still not seeing my toiletries I let out a small groan. You've got to be kidding me. I must have put it in the other suitcase with the presents by accident. That meant I had no brush, toothbrush, bodywash, face soap... no makeup. Judging by the way the snow is falling, going out to get it wasn't going to happen. I wouldn't make Logan go out in the snow and get it for me.

"I will." I heard Logan say one last time. Glancing over my shoulder I watched him pull the phone away, our eyes meeting. A weird look passed over his face as we looked at each other but it went away too quick for me figure out what it was.

"Knox wants you to call him later." He came over and handed me my phone. I could hundred percent say it was Aubrey's doing to get him to agree to having me call him later, not text me every three minutes.

"He'll be calling in an hour, watch."

"He cares about you."

"Sometimes too much." I mumbled. Yes he meant well, and I was his baby sister, but Knox always found a way to intervene in my life. Whether it be work or personal.

"Can't blame him. He means well."

"You clearly don't know the Prom story."

"Prom story?"

I  took a seat on the edge of the bed, ready to dive into the Prom story.

"So it was my senior year and my first time going to Prom. I was so excited because I never got asked before. Anyway, I was upstairs getting ready with Aubrey when my date showed up a bit early. Knox got to the door before anyone else cause he was practically camped out downstairs."

I shook my head at the memory. Should have known it was going to be a bad night when Knox already made a comment about my prom dress being too showy, even though it was a halter neck and only showed my arms and my back.

"When I got downstairs the poor kid was being interrogated by my brother. And I mean really interrogated. Before I interrupted I heard him ask the kid what his blood type was." Amusement danced across Logan's face.

"We took pictures but the whole time Knox made sure the guy kept his distance, when he tried to put his arm around my waist he made some comment. It was so awkward and embarrassing."

"That's not that bad." Logan commented.

"Oh there's more."

"We get to the hotel where the Prom is being held and we're having fun talking to friends and hanging out. When a slow song came on the guy finally asked me to dance. So we go out to the dance floor and as soon as he puts his hands on my waist he freezes. Almost immediately his hands move to my upper back and he kind of just stands there swaying a little."

Even now I cringe at the memory. I remember standing there with my hands on his shoulders ready to dance to this cute slow song but my date just stood there stiff as a board. He was practically at arms length making sure not to touch me.

"His hands would slide down an inch before shooting upwards. When the song finally ended he was so quick to pull away and head back over to the table where our friends were. The rest of the night he pretty much ignored me and refused to dance anymore."

At the time I was hurt and confused but at least I had Jess there to keep me company and we ended up spending most of our time dancing together.

"The prom wasn't even close to being over when he asked to take me home. I barely got out of the car before he sped off. Well come to find out my brother had followed us to the hotel and stood off to the side watching. So every time my date's hands would move my brother was sending him daggers from behind me; scaring the poor guy. By the end of the night he was just ready to get as far away from me as possible."

I was so pissed off at my brother when I found out a few days later. He saw how upset I was and admitted he was the reason my prom date acted like a dick.

"Well that's..."

"A bit much? Yeah. But I later found out my date was going to take me up to one of the rooms after so." I shrugged. I guess you could say my brother saved me on that one.

"What a stand up date."

"Definitely boyfriend material." I joked. It's been years so I was over it but at the time it felt like a punch to the gut. "Did you go to your prom?"

"I did. I went with a girl named Amy Fleiss. I didn't want to go but when she came over and asked me, clearly nervous, I didn't have the heart to say no." Logan answered with a shrug.

"Does that mean you were Prom King?" The corner of my lip tilted up imagining Logan with a crown on his head. He didn't seem like the type to be Prom King but maybe in high school he was different.

"Definitely not. Stayed for an hour then left." I snorted. That sounds about right.

"Prom is overrated anyways."

Logan nodded before we lapsed into silence. It wasn't lost on me we were stuck together in a hotel room for who knows how long. Only recently have we been in the same room together for longer periods of time.

Biting my lip I looked around the room trying to ignore the way Logan was leaning against the counter, arms crossed making his biceps look bigger. He didn't even realize how hot he looked right now.

The fact that it was already awkward and tense I wasn't sure how we were going to handle being stuck here all night if the snow didn't let up.

"So umm..." I curled my hands into my sweater unsure of what to say or do. I was awkward around Logan in general but this was ten fold.

"Want to go see if there's anything to eat in this place?"

Eat. Yeah that's something I can do. Beats sitting here in awkward silence with nothing else to do. And worrying over the fact we only had one bed.

"Sure." I was getting hungry before the snow made us come here. And looks like we weren't going to get out of here any time soon.

Grabbing my purse and phone I followed after Logan as we headed back for the elevator. Unlike earlier when we were in the elevator Logan kept his hands to himself. The distance between us felt huge and I wanted nothing more than to reach out and grab his hand, but I wrapped my arms around my middle.

"Are you feeling better?" Logan asked a moment later as the elevator doors opened. I felt a bit embarrassed at how I acted in the truck. We didn't slide that much but the fear of what happened with my parents grabbed hold of me making me freak out.

"Yeah I'm okay. Sorry about that." I avoided his eyes as we left the elevator.

"Don't be sorry." Logan voice was rough. The demanding undertone of his voice had my eyes widening slightly.

I kept my mouth shut as we walked towards the front of the hotel. When we walked in earlier I was too distracted to fully notice how nice of a hotel it is. I mean our room is super nice, despite the one bed situation.

I felt Logan's eyes on me as we walked but I tried my best to ignore it. We've been working together the past two weeks and it seemed like we got over the awkwardness between us, but right now it was so bad. Like the last two weeks hadn't happened.

A few minutes later we came across a restaurant near the back of the hotel. Thank god there was something to eat here so we didn't have to venture outside in the snow storm. I couldn't help but be sad we'd most likely miss Aubrey's mom, Colleen, amazing homemade chili.

As we came up to the hostess desk I didn't miss the way the hostess looked Logan up and down. Clearly checking him out. Not that I blame her. Logan was by far the most attractive man I've ever laid eyes on. And trust me I've seen some hot guys at college but Logan took the cake. Not to mention the ruggedness that Logan had with his beard, slightly long hair, and big frame. He almost reminded me of a lumberjack.

I tried to shove down the jealousy that flared in my chest . She can look at him all she wants. I don't own him but didn't mean I was happy about it. When she told us to follow her I almost smirked at the way Logan completely ignored her, putting his hand on my lower back ushering me forward. That's right she can look but he's sharing a room with me.

As we walked towards our table we passed by families stranded here just like us. The place was pretty busy but didn't surprise me. When the hostess handed me the menu she practically threw it at me before sending Logan a smile and walking off. I hid my grin behind my menu when Logan didn't look after her.

We may not be together but no one here doesn't know that. Who flirts with a guy who's there with another girl anyways?

"We're missing chili night." I sighed looking over the menu.

"Chili night?"

"Aubrey's mom makes one of the best chili's and she makes a huge pot for everyone." My mouth watered at the thought of it. Everything Colleen makes is delicious. I may own my own bakery but her stuff is a hundred times better than mine will ever be.

"Sounds like you guys have a lot of traditions." At looked at him over my menu trying to place the tone of his voice. Longing?

"Now we do. Before Knox went into the Marine's we'd do a lot for holidays but then it was just three of us. Got kind of hard to be in the celebrating mood and then they passed."

I remember being so upset that my brother wasn't around on Christmas. I missed him but I also missed the way my parents were when he was home. My mom wasn't a ball of anxiety, constantly checking her phone to see if Knox messaged her or checking the news to see if anything has happened.

It's hard for the person in the military but it's also hard for the families. Having to cope not knowing what's happening to their son or daughter. No contact for months at a time. When Knox got shot it was probably the second worst day of my life. But that selfish part of me was glad because he ended up staying home for good after.

Logan opened his mouth to say something but our waiter suddenly came by the table.

"Hi I'm Henry, what can I get you guys to drink?" I glanced up at our waiter as he smiled politely down at me. I noticed he was pretty cute. He was around my age and had that boy next door look about him. While he was cute he didn't hold a candle to the man across from me.

"Can I have some coffee please." I sent him a small smile. He slowly took his eyes off me to look at Logan.

"Same." Logan's voice was gruff.

When the waiter left I turned back to my menu trying to decide what to get. Even though it wasn't breakfast time I decided on the French toast. It was a nostalgic food that Knox use to make me before he left for the military. It was our thing to do every Sunday morning. Plus French toast is one of the best breakfast foods out there.

It was only a second later Henry was back with our coffee's.

"Ready to order?" Once again he turned to me first. Unsure if Logan was ready I went to open my mouth to ask when Logan interrupted me.

"I'll have the bacon burger." Logan said before shoving his menu at Henry. I looked at him wondering he was acting mad when it was my turn to order.

"I'll have the french toast please. No butter."

"No butter." Henry wrote down. "Do you want any fruit on it?" The smile he sent me would have any other girl swooning but unfortunately it did nothing for me.

"I'm okay. Thank you." I gently handed back my menu, his fingers grazing mine.

"I'll get that right out." As soon as Henry was out of earshot Logan let out a scoff.

"What?" I asked, reaching for my coffee.

"Flirting with customers isn't professional."

"He wasn't flirting." I waved him off putting sugar in my coffee. "He's just doing his job."

"If doing his job means staring at you the entire time."

"No, he didn't." I rolled my eyes. Henry was not flirting with me. The grunt that left Logan's lips had me looking over at him. Did he sound...jealous?

Not wanting to pull at that thread right now I cleared my throat.

"I never got to thank you for helping out at the bakery the last two weeks."

"You don't need to thank me." Logan tried to wave me off.

"Yes, I do. You were a big help and you didn't have to come every day but you did." If it wasn't for Logan coming everyday to help we would have had to stay later at the bakery than we did. He was great to work with too. He listened when I asked him to do something and he was efficient. Something he clearly got from being in the military.

"Yeah well." I could tell my words were making him a little uncomfortable. Reaching across the table I touched his hand.

"You saved my ass for the holidays. So thank you."

Logan's eyes landed on my hand before meeting my eyes. His expression softened and he flipped his hand over to squeeze mine.

"You're welcome."

We held onto each others hands longer than appropriate but I didn't want to let go. His hand fit with mine perfectly. I immediately scolded myself on such thoughts. Logan wasn't mine and never would be. Thinking he fit me in any way would just lead to more heartbreak.

With that in mind I pulled my hand back and gripped my coffee mug. The two of us may be trapped here together but that didn't mean anything would change between us. I was still going to be his best friends little sister.

"So I guess we just camp out here until the storm blows over?" I said a moment later.

"That and the roads clear up. My bet is tomorrow morning but we can check the weather when we are done." I nodded into my coffee as it fully sunk in that we could be spending the night here...together.

Greattttt.
