Acacia/Ciarán - Age 13

I did precisely what Grandpa Keir asked of me...

Except for Sophia, I kept to only really talking and hanging out with Jelena, Dexter, and Holden, along with a few other pre-teens of his pack.

Sophia had turned thirteen while away with the Crusaders Pack in early spring as she'd been complaining to her daddy when she would shift. There wasn't a given date; the age just marked the year it would become possible for her to shift. Jelena will be turning thirteen in a week and my birthday was just last week while Dexter won't reach the age of thirteen until after I leave.

Holden had his just yesterday.

It was fun to celebrate as he and Dexter were pranking each other the entire day leading up to pizza and cake. He got many fun gifts and couldn't wait to try them out.

Unfortunately, this morning isn't the greatest as I feel like I'm dying...

"Acacia? Are you going to hang out?" Dexter is knocking on my door.

Curling up into a tighter ball on my side, I pull my covers closer to me as I say back, "No...I'm dying."

"What?!" Dexter freaks out before I can hear him yelling, "Alpha Keir!"

It hurts a lot, the pain in my lower abdomen feels like its crippling me from even getting out of the bed. I want to stay in this bed forever and curled up without anyone to bother me, gritting through the pain as I close my eyelids.

"Acacia?" Grandpa Keir knocks on my door, and I shake my head into the pillow, my hair was all strewn around me as I keep my eyelids closed tightly together. There's a few moments pause before he says, "I'm coming in now, okay?"

With the sound of the door opening, I can hear Jelena and Dexter talking just down the hallway. The noise goes away the second Grandpa Keir closes the door behind him and walks toward my bed. He releases a sigh and asks, "Why did Dexter just tell me that you're dying?"

"I feel like it..." my voice trails off while I see his shadow move around to the side of the bed through my closed lids. Slowly, I open my eyelids, and he crouches down next to me, his eyes searching mine, and I say, "It won't go away."

He chuckles, his irises shifting to their golden color as his wolf shows itself and then asks, "May I ask if your mother has had that talk with you?"

"What talk?" Furrowing my brows, I bring my knees up tighter to my chest, almost digging them through my stomach.

"I see..." he pauses a moment before his eyes slightly darken while I know he's communicating with someone in his pack. After he's done, he then questions me, "Are you bleeding?"

My eyes widen, and I say, "I...umm..."

He offers me a sympathetic smile before his arms work their way around to warp under my body, curling me up with the blanket into his arms. He holds me close to his chest as my forehead leans into him. Grandpa Keir says, "Let's get you into a warm bath and then we'll go from there, okay?"

Nodding my head against his chest, I close my eyelids tight again when I feel my muscles clenching tightly, my heart beating fast as he carries me into the hallway and down it. In the bathroom, one of his pack members stands from the side of the tub and leaves the room, the steam rising from the surface.

I've never felt so weak or faint...even when I've been bitten. It's a different type of exhaustion, and I'm thankful to my grandpa as he helps me from the blanket and out of my soiled PJs. He nods at the bath water and says, "Sit in here for a bit, and I'll be right back," he then motions to the curtain and mentions, "I'm leaving the door cracked open for a few minutes until I get back, so close this slip. I need to talk to you."

I nod, Grandpa Keir, leaving for a moment while I remove my underwear and step into the warm water. I pull the curtain in place and try to breathe in and out calmly while seeing as I can only see shadows on the other side from the light the bathroom bulbs cast. It's relaxing and soothing as I lower myself in, still holding my abdomen as if I've been stabbed with a knife, but other than that, my muscle attempt to relax.

Through the slightly cracked door, I can hear footsteps moving in the hallway and Sophia huffing out, "She's not a werewolf, she can't go into heat...probably just got her period."

What has been going around?

Who said what?

I know who she's talking to because Ridge's voice comes through, "So? Probably still a bitch to deal with so why are you so apathetic?"

"It's a human problem, she can deal with it on her own as she's just a guest here," Sophia's response makes me angry. I can hear her distantly now as she walks away and asks, "Have you seen Taron?"

"No," is all Ridge replies with before they are too far away to hear anything else. Releasing a shaky breath, tears fall down my cheeks at not just the pain I feel, but the hateful words that Sophia doesn't care for me.

Everything changed with her...she used to be my best friend, and now, now she's going out of her way to be as mean and rude as she can be. Avoiding her might have just made things worse because now she's saying worse things...sometimes I don't even want to know what she says behind my back, and here I caught a glimpse of it.

I hear the door creak a little and I ask, "Grandpa?"

There's no response, just a shadow of a figure on the other side. My heart beats extremely fast when I see them lower themselves to the side of the tub behind the curtain and just before I'm about to yell, Grandpa Keir snaps, "Taron...what do you think you're doing?"

"I..." his voice holds how startled he is, seeing the shadow rise to its feet.

"Get out of here before I tell your father," Grandpa Keir orders him and I hear feet shuffling and only one shadowy figure now behind the curtain. The door to the bathroom closes, and I hear a sigh being released before he asks, "Are you alright, Acacia?"

Why was Taron...?

I breathe out, "Yes."

"Is it alright if I talk to you about this?" He asks me, almost unsure as he finishes, "Your mother should be the one to talk to you about this, but she's not here."

I love my grandpa, and he's always been here for me when I need him. I don't see why not and I reply, "That's fine."

"I anticipated that there was a chance you might get your first period while staying here as you do spend four months with us when you do decide to visit," he begins before I hear him setting something down on the counter top, "I didn't know whether or not you'd already been through it due to your age, ten to fifteen is the average range for humans. I made sure I had everything ready here you would need if so."

I lick my dry lips and ask, "How do you know so much though?"

"You're my granddaughter, and without knowing what you truly are and basing everything off of you being human, I wanted to prepare myself for anything that might be thrown at you," he starts again and I feel my heart fill with warmth, "I wanted to make sure I could help you with whatever you needed, and yes, there were things I already knew about humans, but I just paid more attention when you came into this world."

"I love you, grandpa," I release a shaky breath at the way I know I'm loved.

Grandpa Keir chuckles and says, "I love you too," he takes a moment before he states, "I figured due to your activity...well, two options I have for you, but I already know which you're more than likely going to choose. I've set out two boxes here for you when you're ready; tampons and pads...instructions are on the box as..."

"Thanks, grandpa," I'm glad I have the curtain drawn to hide my embarrassment as I can hear it somewhat in his voice.

"Uh..." his voice trails off before he pauses a moment and then says, "...I also have some light pain medication to help relax your muscles. Female humans and werewolves are similar in this regard, though it affects their bodies differently and there are only certain times when werewolves have to go through with this, and unfortunately, yours will be each month."

"I'm going to die every month," I murmur and I hear him chuckling again.

He then begins, "The pain medication will help a lot. Female werewolves rely on the touch of their mate to help soothe their heat...though that's when they are..." he takes a break for a moment and then decides, "...you know, I don't think you really need to hear about this," he laughs as he's trying to explain things to me.

I knew a little because Jelena told me that unmated females are locked in the basement which has been turned into a lavish room for them during their heat. Otherwise, it just draws all the unmated males to them...and well yeah, apparently there's that whole mess for them to worry about.

At least human males aren't that way, so I'll take the human period over their heat.

"Thank you for talking to me," I do believe he's the best grandpa in the entire world because I don't know how many would sit there in some comfort being able to talk to their granddaughter about this.

"You're welcome when you're ready, come on down, and I'll have something fixed up for you since breakfast is made," Grandpa Keir concludes while standing to his feet before leaving the bathroom and closing the door behind him.

After finishing up my bath and figuring out which one of the two feminine products that I wanted to use, I decided on the tampon for now. Reading the instructions and everything, I see that Grandpa Keir had already gathered the blankets when he left and had brought me a change of clothes. Getting dressed and feeling at least not as grimy...

...I take two of the light pain medication and take everything with me from the bathroom. I stroll down the hallway to my room, seeing some of Grandpa Keir's pack members glance at me before looking away.

I have the plague, I swear.

Escaping into my bedroom, I stash everything that Grandpa Keir had given me away. Braiding my damp hair over my shoulder, I tie it off and decide to head downstairs finally. Grandpa Keir is in the kitchen, and I see him making me some pancakes with strawberries and blueberries.

When he turns around, he sees me and asks, "Are you feeling a little better?"

"Yeah," I know sitting down a bit more will help and the pain medication is already kicking in, so it won't be long before I'm hopefully back to feeling more myself. Sitting with him at the table, I eat my pancakes and enjoy the glass of orange juice, watching as Jelena peers out from the game room archway.

She walks over and asks, "Hey, you up for anything?"

I release a sigh and shake my head while saying, "I think I'm just going to go for a walk and get some fresh air in a bit."

Grandpa Keir nods at me while standing from the table, seeing Alpha Chris in the living room motioning for him. Whatever they talk about, it's background noise as Jelena says, "Alright, well don't forget we are doing movie night tonight!"

"I won't," I smile and nod my head while she turns on her heels, noticing Dexter not as sneaky peering from around the corner too. He waits for Jelena to come back, he has a smile on his face, though it turns into a slight frown when she shakes her head. I'm just not really up for wanting to talk to anyone right now; I want to be by myself.

Movie night sounds like fun later.

Hmm...

A thought strikes me as I'm clearing up my dishes, setting them in the dishwasher as I turn toward the back kitchen door.

Perhaps...

...Nimue or Lars might find me. I might be able to see more of what they are trying to show me.

That thought does excite me, moving toward the door and putting on my boots. The weather is warm outside, my jeans and t-shirt enough without a light sweater as I walk across the grass. It's calm out, seeing some of the Crusaders Pack and Grandpa Keir's sparring with one another. Some of the pups are out playing tag, hide and seek and other fun games.

Glancing back toward the forest, I walk through the tree trunks while moving away from the open lodge grounds. The twigs snap beneath my boots while I pass several trees, seeing the sun shining down through gaps in the needles and leaves above. It's about fifteen minutes away that I'm turning down another marked path and off to the side, reaching a small clearing where there are vast patches of daisies.

Smiling, there is an area where the sun shines directly onto the grass and forest floor, walking off the path toward it. Sitting down on a patch of grass, I pick a couple of the daises while I decide to thread the stems and make a necklace.

It's about twenty or so minutes before I realize that I'm not alone, hearing rustling coming from one of the bushes before I glance to my right and see that teenage alpha wolf come padding closer.

Arching a brow I release a sigh and say, "Hello Wolfie," pausing a moment, I see his ears move around as he listens to the sounds around him. He then sniffs the air as he walks closer to me, though I glance away and finish up the necklace I am making.

He pads closer until he's directly in front of me, waiting for me to finally look up and into his eyes before I ask, "What is it, Wolfie?"

He stares at me, right into my soul with the way his eyes pierce through mine. Suddenly, he moves forward and bumps his head against my upper shoulder, and I release a small sigh. Lying on my back, I'm a little surprised when he pads to my side and lies down on his belly. His head lifts and rests on my chest, one of his eyes staring into mine.

It's a rather gentle aura that surrounds him and for some reason, all the emotions I've been feeling over the past few weeks just flood right over me. Tears readily come to my eyes quickly before the fall down my cheeks.

He whines and lifts his head, but I shake my own and whisper, "You're kind, Wolfie..."

Rolling onto my side, I wrap my arm around its neck, burying my face against his. He licks my face after he's rubbing his against mine, allowing me to curl up against his side while I close my eyelids and listen to his heartbeat.

His breathing is even, and mine regulates calmly, dozing off for a little while before I feel him slowly get on his legs beside me. Lifting my head, I sit up on my side, watching as the wolf looks around the clearing and then back at me.

After a few moments, he turns back to me and rubs his fur up against my shoulder. He pads around me, bumping his head and the side of his body against me until his teeth tugs at my t-shirt and I stand slowly to my feet. Furrowing my brows, he proceeds to brush against my legs, stopping a moment when he gets closer and sniffs near my crotch.

Guarding myself with embarrassment, I push his head away and say, "Don't do that."

He tilts his head to the side before he finally backs away slightly. He lowers the front of his body while his hindquarters are in the air, his tail moving from side to side. When I don't move, he jumps to the side and continues to stare at me. When I still don't move, he leaps forward and then back again.

I can't help but laugh and ask, "Do you want to play?"

He whines and lifts his head, and I finally allow a smile to creep on my face. I quickly run forward and right before I'm about to touch him, he jumps back and to the side. I fall forward onto my hands and knees before I quickly get up again and chase him. He prances around like the high and mighty alpha he thinks he is.

Turning my back on him, I cross my arms in front of my chest. I try to keep the laugh from surfacing as I hear him padding closer to me, a small whine leaving his lips. Just as he's about to approach me, I whirl around and fall forward, wrapping my arms around his neck and falling to the grass with him.

Laughing, he rolls around me with me, and I giggle when I manage to win for a moment. He then knocks me backward and lays his belly down on top of my stomach. I look up into his eyes as I swear he's smirking down at me before I say, "You win."

He licks my face, and I laugh while he lifts up onto his paws and off of me. Sitting up and crossing my legs, I watch as the wolf paces back and forth just a little further away from me and I furrow my brows asking, "What's wrong, Wolfie?"

He glances my way once and then averts his gaze.

"Did I do something?" I ask him when he begins to walk away from me and toward one of the trees. I thought everything was going alright...he was becoming a sweet relief from everything else...

He's out of sight, and I furrow my brows, not wanting to believe that maybe I did something wrong...

A few moments later, I stand to my feet and take a few steps forward in the direction he'd gone, tilting my head to the side as I attempt to peer around where he'd gone. I hear something, unsure of what...

A few more moments of silence before I call, "Wolf-"

My heart drops a second later, beating extremely fast when I see Taron come from around the tree wearing nothing but athletic shorts while a backpack strap is in his hand. My eyes grow wide as I search over him, my voice catching in my throat.

When I finally do speak, my voice betrays me when I whisper out, "Taron."
