The elevator doors open back up as Nathan came into view. He walked inside ignoring me as I stood straighter trying to hide how tired I really was. The ride was filled with awkward silence as I hesitantly looked over at him staring straight ahead. Normally I wouldn't care about the silence, but I felt like whatever he did he was trying to play mind games with me. I've never felt so nervous and uncertain about myself around any other man before.

I could have killed him here and now if it weren't for the elevator security camera. "Thank you for the shirt." I broke the silence. "Mr. Gallagher's assistant ran into me." I continued nervously making me annoyed at my uneasy behavior around him.

"Sounds familiar." He replied simply before looking down at me finally tearing his eyes away from the elevator doors. Nathan looked at me with soft eyes as I chuckled nervously remembering running into him at his family's party.

His tough demeanor quickly returned as the elevator dinged and the doors opened. "I expect coffee every morning." He said without emotion walking away after the doors opened making me scoff in disbelief. I couldn't understand how someone could be friendly and turn so cold in a matter of seconds.

Ignoring his hot and cold behavior as I followed him out of the building keeping my space away from him. Holding my jacket tight around my revealing tank top, whistling, and flinging my arm around trying to haul a cab.

I kicked my heals off entering my hotel room before stumbling and collapsing onto my soft bed. Nathan's undeniable handsome features flooded my mind and his deep voice rung in my ear when he caught me in his office. Quickly shoved the thoughts away hating the fact I was thinking these things about someone as cold and arrogant as him.

Getting up from my bed in exhaustion and taking off the tank top and throwing it away in one swift move as I walked towards my bathroom. After getting ready for bed, I dressed in only a long, baggy tee shirt before crawling into bed with a groan. I've never slept on such a heavenly bed like this one before now It felt like a soft, fluffy marshmallow cloud. I had been looking forward to it all day.

"This is black." Nathan gagged tensing his eyebrows in disgust after taking a sip out of the coffee cup I gave him. I quickly grabbed it from him as he looked up at me with a twisted look on his face. "Oh, sorry that's mine." I quickly gave him the other cup in my hand.

"You drink black coffee?" He asked as I took a large gulp of mine. "I've always needed all the caffeine I could get." I replied through a weak smile looking away to grab the trash off his desk from breakfast.

I could tell he wanted to ask me something, but he decided not to as he looked away. "I need you to come to my meetings with Mr. Roday and Johnson. And most of your filing will be for me and I expect you done before noon." Nathan said making me nod turning away to leave until he continued.

"I noticed your photo on your desk. Is that your boyfriend?" Nathan asked never looking up as he continued to work. I had printed out a photograph of my brother and I on his birthday a few years ago. It was the only recent one I had of him and I. "My brother, Nick." I answered making him hum.

I couldn't help but smile to myself knowing he was wondering if I was single or not. Shaking off the smile remembering I shouldn't care what he thinks of me. Other than a good, quiet, and innocent secretary.

"And the child?" He asked motioning to the other photo making me part my lips turning my head to my desk. "I should get started on your filing." I replied ignoring his question before leaving quickly.

Sighing heavily, I sat down on my comfortable desk chair to begin organizing Nathan's files into categories. There was massive amounts of documents that I needed to sort while simultaneously taking all of his calls and adding his new clients into his schedule. It was clear he was the most sought-after lawyer in the area. I was about to stand up with a stack of papers when someone unfamiliar walked up to my desk.

"Is Nathan in?" An attractive man asked looking past me to try looking for Nathan through his glass wall. My lips parted slightly trying to figure out why he looked so familiar. "Yes, but he's busy at the moment. I can schedule a meeting-" I began as I looked away to open his calendar on the computer until he cut me off walking past my desk

"I'm his brother. I'll just be a minute." He said before opening his office door making me quickly follow. "I'm sorry he just barged in." I said opening the door after it closed in my face.

Noticing the resemblance between them as Nathan hung up with a call seeing him walk in. "It's alright." He replied standing up making me nod weakly looking between the both of them. Leaving them to let them talk alone realizing it was his brother. As soon as I closed the door, I heard them start talking amongst themselves.

His younger brother had lighter brown hair than Nathan's but had the same eyes. His brother was also slightly shorter than Nathan's tall, muscular frame but still impressively handsome. I decided to wait until they were done talking to put his files away making me stand back up to get a cup of coffee. Ignoring the occasional glance and wink from some of the men I passed. Leaning against the kitchen counter watching everyone in the office continue to work over the busy chatter.

"Hey, Carmen." Eve smiled as she poured a cup of coffee beside me. I could tell she wasn't like the rest of the women here who only sneered and gossiped. She wasn't overly concerned about her appearance. Eve was genuinely kind and funny and was likely and outcast because of it.

"Hey, Eve." I replied as she stirred the sugar in her mug. "I'm sorry if I got you in trouble with Mr. Vanderbilt." She said worried making me shake my head. "No, not at all. I can handle him." I replied bringing my mug to my lips. She just smiled hesitantly making me change the subject.

"Do you know anything about his brother?" I asked curiously looking into his office through the glass walls. "They seem intense." Eve followed my eyes seeing Nathan and his brother talking somewhat aggressively. "Oh, you mean Lee?" She replied making me look at het again.

"He works alongside Nathan but not as much recently." Eve said making me frown. "Why not?" I asked making her shrug. "Not sure." She replied making me frown looking back into his office as Lee stormed out. "We should have lunch. It'd be nice to gossip and learn about everyone here without eve's droppers." I chuckled through a friendly smile. She smiled brightly making me turn around to walk back to my desk. "Yeah, I-I'd like that." Eve replied excited slightly taken aback.

I grabbed Nathan's stack of papers before pushing his door open with my back. I avoided looking over at him as I continued walking. I bent down over his filing cabinet beginning to put them away. After a few minutes of awkward silence, I heard the door open. I turned my head to see Hannah walking inside towards his desk with her purse on her shoulder. "Hey, baby." She purred making me roll my eyes as I looked away uninterested.

Hannah wore a short, white tennis skirt and tank top similar to the one Nathan had given me. Although her cup size didn't fill it out as much as mine had. Hannah had thin blonde hair held in a high ponytail. I looked over at them in the corner of my eye watching her walk up to him. She sat on his desk beside him as Nathan continued to look down ignoring her.

"I just got back from tennis practice and thought I'd surprise you." Hannah said not yet noticing me as I continued my job. "I'm afraid I'm too busy right now." Nathan said full of frustration from him and Lee's conversation.

She was about to reply when I heard a small dog barking turning my head around to see a small Chihuahua in her purse. The dog shook creating dander making me fill with worry watching the small dandruff fly around. "Oh, come on." She dragged out. "You can take an early lunch. I can make reservations at your favorite Italian place." Hannah said desperate to sound seductive to change his mind.

I was about to interrupt when I began sneezing making them look at me confused. "What is she doing here?" Hannah asked just now noticing me as I sneezed into my elbow a few times. "Carmen is my assistant." He said never looking away from me with a puzzled expression. "I'm sorry. I'm a-" I began until I sneezed again into my elbow.

I rushed towards his desk to grab a tissue and blow my nose. "What happened to Riley?" She asked full of annoyance as I struggled to control my allergies. I tried leaving his office until he spoke. "She was more competent than Riley. Carmen stay. Hannah was just leaving." Nathan replied making me frown as Hannah scoffed.

"It's fine really." I began until he stared me down. "I insist." Nathan demanded making me look over at Hannah getting off his desk. "Fine. Only because I have a nail appointment." Hannah replied trying not to sound too disappointed as she glared over at me. "If you touch him, I will make your life living hell. You have no idea who my father is." Hannah threatened but it was hard to take her seriously with a Chihuahua under her arm. And the fact I was capable of killing her in multiple ways right here and now.

I just looked look at her with an amused expression making her huff slamming the door behind her. "I'm really sorry. I should've told you I'm allergic to dogs." I said turning around to finish my job. "Why would you? And I should be thanking you. She never would've left willingly." Nathan joked making me turn to him amused. Seeing he was already looking at me. I couldn't help but laugh lightly before I walked back to finish filing with the familiar comfortable silence between us again.
