Amelia

Eleven years ago.

"Is he coming?" I'm both nervous and excited at the same time. I arrived late today, so I didn't hear him say "hi" but now I will.

"Nope." She sighed then added, "I'll go check the field to see if he's playing football or anything." She started walking away.

"Grace, don't leave me alone. I don't want to mess up again." I'll definitely act strange if she's not next to me, but having her near me is really not that great since she starts teasing me and I turn into a blushing mess.

"Come on, you can do it; besides, he'll just say "hi"; he's not going to confess to you, okay?" She stated, and reality hit me harder than I had thought. I'll never hear him make a confession to me.

There are lots of reasons for this, but why is it so hard to face someone and tell him you love him? The answer is that I'm afraid of getting rejected, that will shatter my heart. "Fine, but don't be late," I replied, and she nodded and walked away.

She's late. I keep checking from behind the wall, there's just nothing. "What happened to her?" I whispered.

"Are you waiting for someone?" I was surprised by the unexpected voice. I really shouldn't have turned around.

"Actually, I'm..." Another voice interrupted me. "Girl, Asher probably left; he's not..." She paused with wide eyes, and I was too stunned to look at her or move. I turned to face her, and she turned to face me. We were both thinking what we should do next.

"Were you looking for me?" He asked. Just lie; that's what I'm thinking. "Actually, I wanted to ask you about our math homework." I said it with confidence.

"But we don't have any math homework." He looked at me, confused. Why, of all days, don't we have math homework today?

"Yes, I wanted to ask if we have any math homework." I laughed nervously.

"Thank you very much." Please save me; I'm too embarrassed to look at him.

"Amelia, we have to go. Isn't Cassian waiting for you?" Just Grace was trying to solve my problems while using that name.

"Actually, Amelia." He started speaking once again. My heart is beating like crazy. I'm going to die of a heart attack.

"We have math homework." He smirked. He. Smirked. I just chuckled nervously again and walked away.

"Wow, this was definitely more than just a hi." I sent her a glare.

"Fine, I'll stop talking." She said so, and we walked back without saying anything about him.

What a lovely morning for me to go to school and feel even more embarrassed when I see him.

"Thanks for making fun of me. This definitely improved my mood. Oh, look! I'm looking forward to going to school because of my dear BFF. Let's stay positive!" She laughed once again.

"No offense, but you were a hot mess yesterday, blushing, laughing, and shocked all at the same time. You made me laugh!" I sighed as we entered our classroom.

"This is your last warning, Grace and Amelia. If you don't stop talking, I'll send you to the principal's office!" The teacher talked, but we didn't hear her. She caught us again. "Okay, enough now!" She looked at Grace, who was laughing beside me. "Grace, switch seats with Jane right now!" Our math teacher yelled.

If you think we're done now, you're wrong. "Amelia, your work is incredible and your grades are perfect; don't get distracted by other things and focus on the lesson." My math teacher said.

Whenever I get caught, I always hear that a lot. I frowned because Grace was away. I turned to look at her, but she was glaring at our teacher. I laughed, she caught my eyes, and we both continued to laugh.

We both walked to the entry gate at the end of the day to see Grace's father standing next to his car, holding hands with Grace's 4-year-old brother. I ran towards him as soon as I saw him.

I gave him a cheek kiss and took him in my arms. "Hey, little Noah, did you miss me?" He giggled, and I kept talking with him, so I didn't notice Grace's father speaking with Asher until I heard, "We'll give you a ride home. Let's go."

I turned, and he nodded. I'm not getting in the same car as Asher. "Actually, Mr. Davis, I'll just walk home. I don't want to bother you with my presence." I said.

"Amelia, I'm not going to let you walk home. Don't be shy; join us. You are not a burden; stop talking badly about yourself." My own father never even said these words to me; I'm almost in tears right now.

Fine, I'll just sit in the passenger seat.
Grace got in my way, so I had to walk to the backseat, and thanks to Noah's car seat, I had to sit next to him. Grace was talking to her father, Noah fell asleep, and I was staring out the window, waiting for when I'll get home.

He unexpectedly said, "Do we have any math homework?" He asked.

"Of course, we have..." Suddenly, I remembered yesterday. I turned my head while he began to laugh. When I looked at him, my cheeks reddened. Asher Harper's genuine smile was an expensive one.

"I'm sorry, I couldn't help but laugh." He apologized.

"It's okay; it's good to see you smile." I practically whispered to myself.

"I'll smile even more if it makes you feel happy." He looked me in the eyes while saying these words.

"We're here, Amelia." Grace gave me a wink.

As I got out of the car and closed the door behind me, I couldn't help but smile at him and say, "See you tomorrow, Asher."

With a smile, he said, "See you tomorrow, Amelia."

My world stopped after hearing his laugh, talking to him, and getting his full attention. He gave it to me, and only me. What could be better than feeling loved by the only boy you care about?
