Chapter 38 ∣ My Heart and Soul

-Eris

"Maverick?!" My body came alive on its own, sadly, it had been all too late. My chest was rising and falling at a fast rate, sitting up in the bed alone, the covers pulled tight around my chest. Glancing around the room, I noticed that Prince Keegan was nowhere to be found, my body aching from the mere thought of how he decided to defile me. I had to have been dreaming somewhere in between conscious and asleep, Maverick reaching out to me, his voice sounding like he was right beside me.

He wasn't though.

It had to have been a dream. Each time I tried to connect to him, silence returned my call.

Dream Maverick said he was coming for me...I find that a little hard to believe. How in the world could he cross into this plane of existence without giving up his life? Even then, he'd be sent to a completely different circle of Hell.

My right hand trailed up from the covers and rested at the base of my neck. The piece of shit collar was real...

My vampire...

Am I really to spend the rest of my immortal life by Prince Keegan's side as his queen? If that truly was to be my destiny, should I not just give in? If I just accepted my fate...maybe I wouldn't be treated so horribly by him.

For all I knew, the hope I had placed in Maverick was a false hope, wanting so desperately to believe he would come and save me that I imagined him calling out to me. There's no chance in Hell he'd ever be able to get into my mind, was there?

"This isn't like when Declan kidnapped me..." my voice was just above a whisper, tugging quickly on the collar, but it wouldn't budge, my hand falling away and resting on the bed, "How do you fight a creature that can shift through different planes at will? How do you fight a creature that can manipulate your mind to not only plant suggestive thoughts but could control your emotions on a different level of that then a vampire? How do you fight a figment of your imagination, that crawls into the farthest corners of your mind at night?"

"You can't," Prince Keegan's voice startled me from the door to the bedroom, my eyes slowly lifting to meet his. "That vampire is not coming for you. Why would he risk his life when he is next in line for the throne?"

There it was again, Prince Keegan speaking about Maverick as though he personally knew him. He couldn't possibly be telling the truth, because if he was, that would mean Maverick had been lying to me from the very beginning.

He wouldn't lie to me...not after I had been completely honest about my past. He wouldn't...

Prince Keegan closed the door silently behind him, his eyes lingering on me as he made his way toward the bed. He was wearing a dark faded pair of jeans, his shirt continued to not want to stay on his body, his eyes were no longer filled with lust.

Guilt?

I don't think I've ever seen an incubus show that emotion before.

When he lowered himself to sit on the bed, my muscles tensed, his body sitting sideways as his legs hung off the edge of the bed, his feet planted firmly on the floor.

"He lied to you, Eris," he spoke again, his voice actually holding remorse, tilting his head to the side, "He was cast away from his coven for attempting to murder his father. He's killed countless innocent lives and never once cared about his actions. If he hadn't met you, he'd still be a bloodthirsty monster."

"I changed him..." I gazed into his eyes, feeling the sting at the bridge of my nose as water filled my eyes.

Prince Keegan shook his head, "He planned on killing you that night."

"I know, he stopped," I replied, my heart rate accelerating.

"He only stopped because he felt sorry for you. He didn't want to be the one to end your life. He was intrigued with what you are, that's the only reason you are still alive," he narrowed his eyes on me.

"I-I-" my emotions were all over the place, attempting to blink away the tears.

Prince Keegan stated, "He doesn't love you. You were broken and he fixed you. How long did you think your little fling would go on for? Once he found his mate, you'd be shattered, your heartbroken and left in pain that nothing could heal."

The water-filled to the brim, tears streaming down from the corners of my eyes, bring the covers up to my chin and dragging my knees to my chest. I knew that was the price I would have to pay eventually, falling in love with a vampire.

"You don't belong on Earth," Prince Keegan sighed, his eyes softening as he reached his right hand out to my face, but I flinched away, shutting my eyes tightly. "You belong to me. I truly am sorry...I'm so sorry for the way I treated you, I was just very angry that you'd choose a vampire...over your own kind. I know I hurt you in the past and I regret it deeply, please, Eris-"

My eyes blinked open, the tears making my vision slightly hazy as I brought my face back, staring into his eyes and seeing the love he did have. This time, when his right hand reaches out, I let him cup the side of my face, brushing the tears away. I leaned into his warm touch, a sob escaping my lips as I sighed in content.

"Let me show you...that I do care for you, that I do love you," Prince Keegan's voice was husky, his body having edged closer, his lips a few inches away from my lips. I could feel his hot breath fan my face, my senses becoming lost to his gentle touches, something I only thought Maverick could bring out of me.

His forehead pressed against mine, my eyes staring deeply into his, "Prince Keegan..."

"No," his eyes shifted, an electric blue reflecting my own, "Call me Keegan. Now," his right hand moved to my chin, the pad of his thumb lightly brushing against my lower lip, "may I kiss you?"

I felt the heat rising to my skin, my body reacting to his touches perfectly, a warmth rushing straight to my core.

"Yes," I willingly welcomed his touch, his right hand sliding away from my lips and cupping the side of my face again. He brought his lips down against mine, kissing me gently but firmly, my lips moving against his own. His right hand moved away from my cheek and wrapped around to the base of my skull, his fingers intertwining with strands of my long dark hair.

His tongue ran along my bottom lip, sharply inhaling air as I parted them for him, feeling his tongue move into my mouth. His tongue pressed against mine, dancing together as it quickly turned into heated passion. As our breathing turned ragged, he turned from sitting sideways to moving onto the bed completely, his knees slowly coming onto either side of my legs as they released and straightened from under my chin.

The slickness started to build between my thighs, my hands releasing the covers, my right hand cupping his left cheek while my other arm wrapped around his neck.

He raped you.

I know...

He's seducing you.

I know...

Lost your fight?

Yes.

Why?

The more I fight...the more I end up hurt and paying for everyone's mistakes...I'm done fighting.

What of Maverick?

What of him? He lied to me...

He. Loves. You.

People who love each other...don't lie to one another. Please...leave me the fuck alone. I'm done.

It went silent. My demonic side had given in completely to me and was standing down, letting me fall further into the destiny that had now been set for me. Maverick wasn't coming. He didn't love me. He lied to me.

In my distraction, Keegan had discarded the remainder of his clothes, slipping his lower body beneath the covers and settling comfortably between my thighs. His left hand touched my collar bone, trailing his fingertips down my right breast. I moaned lightly, my chin tilting to the ceiling as his mouth encircled my nipple, flicking it with his tongue and grazing it sensually with his teeth. My body continued arousing further, my juices trickling down my inner thighs and onto the sheets.

Air stilled in my lungs when I felt the head of Keegan's shaft running up and down my slit, spreading my folds as he covered himself with my wetness. His lips left my nipple, he lifted both of my thighs up around his waist, my legs wrapping around him. My hands rested against his chest, my body arching up toward him, feeling his energy and power radiating from him.

"Eris," Keegan growled lowly, his lips next to my ear as I felt him push slowly into me, my gasp and moans filling the room, "I'm going to show you how much I do truly care about you."

I bit my lower lip, feeling him sink into me and filling me, my walls hugging him tightly in a warm embrace. My arms held onto his shoulders, my hips meeting his thrusts as he withdrew himself almost completely and then pumped into me again. His steady rhythm had me melting beneath of him, my skin covered in a light sweat as my heartbeat could be heard in my ears.

Keegan's groans and grunts only intensified my feelings, my body accepting and wanting every part of him. Even though I knew deep down it was wrong, I couldn't fight it anymore, I was tired of being hurt.

He lifted his lips away from my ear, his electric blue eyes staring into mine, his right hand cupping the side of my face as his thumb rested on my chin, slowly pulling my jaw down.

Oh, no...he's going to take my energy again...another lie...

My faith had been restored...but it wasn't in Maverick, it was in Keegan, my eyes blinking in disbelief as I saw the pure white wisps drifting away from his open mouth and filling me. My being was being restored, not only offering me his energy but restoring something so precious that I thought I would have to fight to the death for. It was being handed right over to me in a single act of kindness I'd never been shown in Hell.

My fractured soul.

His mouth snapped shut and I exhaled, screaming as my walls clenched around him, feeling his shaft expand and the warmth of his seed filling me. Riding out our orgasms, Keegan's pace slowed, thrusting once more before pulling out of me, his chest rising and falling at the same rate as mine. My eyes searched his face, looking for any ill will. He held none.

"Please forgive me," he whispered, bringing his lips against mine and then pulling away, "Your soul has been restored..."

I thought all this time, his father held it.

I was wrong. It had been given to him.

He willingly returned it to me, without hesitation.

This...this was an act of love...he wasn't lying, he was remorseful of his actions and wanted me to understand just how sorry he was. His actions truly did speak louder than words.
