Chapter 10 ∣  Don't Fuck With Me

-Maverick

"Where do you think you're going?" I watched with amusement as the frightened young woman turned down the wrong alley to get away from me. But I knew better, this wasn't some human that was cowering away in fear. No, this one just wanted to get out of sight and play me, biding her time until her mate showed up.

I had noticed a couple of hunters that had passed through this city recently...and it wasn't an accident. I never left any evidence...I knew exactly who was informing them of my whereabouts. It wasn't my fault that I had unknowingly killed one of his pack members...

This time...he'd pay the ultimate price.

Pity he let his mate wander away from him and into my presence.

The thumping of her heart skipped several beats as she glared with fury towards me, her rage rising as something deep within her wanted to take control of the situation. She pushed her long brown hair out of her face, her faded jeans were torn at her left knee when I had startled her, and she had abruptly fallen to the ground. Her light gray tank top was barely concealed by the black and red hoodie she wore zipped up halfway.

Her bright amber eyes emulated the moonlight, growing to a darker shade as she held my gaze. That's when the wind blew her scent towards me, my eyebrows raising at the sudden status that had been revealed of the prey that I had caught.

I chuckled lowly before asking, "Where is your mate, she-wolf? How did you manage to leave his side?"

"I'm not someone to be controlled!" She growled at me.

"Ha! Don't make me laugh," I shook my head and my next comment just irritated her more, "Your kind are possessive as shit. Always claiming: MINE...please, tell me something I don't know."

I was getting the exact reaction I wanted out of her, making her abandon reason and let the anger take control. If she waited, her mate could possibly save her, but now I was infuriating her, causing her judgment to falter.

"I'm not weak..." she responded.

Sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.

"Sure honey," the word made her flinch, "Tell ya what! I'm feeling generous tonight. I'll allow you to shift, this way, when I kill you...I'll know it wasn't because you were being held back."

That sent her over the edge. She growled at me, not defensively, but because she wanted to rip my throat out.

Good.

I smirked, holding my hands up and turning my back on the she-wolf. It didn't take long before I felt a shift in power coming from her location. Turning around, my eyes fell on the form of a white, tawny, and black coated wolf. She snarled at me, her teeth on full display.

"Such a pretty little bitch you are," I rolled my eyes, the words cutting into her deeply as she pushed back on her haunches, readying to leap towards me.

Anticipating her lunge, she jumped on top of me with such force it knocked the wind out of my lungs as my back hit the ground. As soon as I contacted the cool cement, I brought my legs up and kicked her off me and over my head. She crashed into the brick wall, slumping down as the pain hit her hard.

I rolled backward with my momentum, crouching down as I placed one of my palms on the ground and the other beside of me. She shook her head, and at her slightest movement, I noticed a small limp already forming at her left hind leg.

"I thought you weren't weak?" I taunted her. Her growl filled the alley as she took another leap towards me, pulling back at the last second and swiping her front right paw at me. I shot my left leg out, knocking her off all fours and rising to my full height. "That's the best you can do. Your mate must be devastated to have someone like you belong to them."

Quicker than I would have thought, she recovered and sprang at me. I threw my right arm up, her teeth clamping down onto my forearm as she began to shake her head viciously.

Now we have a real fight.

"That's better," I breathed in deeply, ignoring the pain shooting through my arm and up to my shoulder, "But, I know you can't heal as I can. You heal quicker than humans, but other than that...you're nothing special, you're not immortal."

She bit into me harder, my blood dripping to the ground. There it was again, the warmth trying to break through, but I wouldn't allow it to. Instead, I reached under my trapped arm and took hold of her throat, lifting her into the air and ripping her locked jaws from my arm, feeling my wounds closing from her lingering bite.

Whimpering in pain, I sent her body flying harder into the opposite brick wall. This time, when she attempted to rise onto her paws, she collapsed back down.

"I guess your mate doesn't care about you enough to save you...it shouldn't have taken him this long to find you," I sighed and shrugged my shoulders, "After all, I assume you have been mind linking to him the entire time you've been fighting me. You've been trying to survive and now your time has run out."

I could see the hurt and pain in her eyes, her whimpers turning into a high-pitched howl.

Fuck!

"No, I don't think so," I was beside her in the next moment, my knee pressed down against her throat as I took a syringe out of my pocket. It was a well-known fact the hunters who possessed blood magic could be stopped with blood thinners, vampires with undiluted silver, and my kind had developed liquid wolfsbane, just in case we ran into unfriendly werewolves.

Technically, I was the one that started this bad blood unintentionally. But I wasn't about to lose my life over it.

The she-wolf cried out in pain as I injected the liquid down past her coat and into her bloodstream. I could hear her bones cracking and snapping slightly as she shifted back to her human form, the pain becoming unbearable for her to withstand much longer.

"You're not calling more than just your pack..." I hissed at her, her eyes wide with fear as I took hold of her neck and gradually brought her up against the wall. Ignoring her naked body, she tried to punch me in the face while her other hand reached for my own throat. I immediately backhanded her across the face, blood trailing from her split lip, her breathing uneven as he eyes filled with hatred.

Smashing my fist into the center of her face, I heard the bones shatter, blood flowing from her nose and over her lips. Her eyes crossed, fighting to stay open as I took her upper left arm with my free hand, quickly moving her shoulder up and inwards. She screamed harder, shaking her head as the pain continued to fill her body, her collarbone broken in three places now.

Lifting her up the wall, I suddenly threw her to the ground, her body sliding across the cement and taking bits of her flesh away from her body.

"So," I placed my hands in my pockets, my trench coat catching the wind and billowing out from my body, "How much longer do we have left to play?"

She glared at me, spitting the blood that had pooled in her mouth on the ground near my feet.

Awe, the broken bitch still has some fight left in her.

Not for long.

Her screams ricocheted off the brick walls as I forcefully kicked her in the stomach with my heavy combat boot. She curled up into the fetal, tears streaming from her fearful eyes, sliding down her cheeks and hitting the cement.

"P-p-plea-se don-don't kill m-me," she begged in between sobs as she tried to back away from me, hitting the brick wall and halting her movement. She cradled her broken collarbone, holding her arm against her stomach. I could see the pain clearly written on her face as she tried to move her limbs, the liquid wolfsbane I had injected her with creating a battleground inside her body.

"You really don't get it do you?" I sighed, kneeling in front of her. She flinched away from me in response as I moved the stray hair that had fallen in front of her face. "Even if I didn't have an issue with your pack, what makes you think I wouldn't kill you anyway?"

"I-I-" she stammered.

I brought her to her feet, taking her long brown hair into my hand and exposing her delicate neck to me. I felt the shift in my eyes, the horror in her own as she stared back in me in terror.

"N-no, don't...ple-please!" I couldn't stop the sinister laugh that passed my lips, watching her as she pleaded me to spare her life.

"I'm a rogue vampire honey," I smelt her scent and her mate's scent on her, the blood pulsating beneath her flesh, "I give zero fucks about anyone else wellbeing except my own."

Her scream shattered the silence that had grown between us, the fear within her only bring out my desire to kill her that much more as my elongated fangs pierced through her flesh. The blood filled my mouth and it made me groan slightly. It had been a while since I had tasted the blood of a werewolf, the intoxicating power that coursed through it had my senses going haywire, wanting to devour every drop from her veins.

Her last attempt to break away from me had me irritated. I punctured my fangs further into her neck, breaking through her carotid artery. She began gasping for air as she started to bleed out, the blood flowing fast from the wound I had created on her neck. Her struggle ceased, her arms falling limp to her sides.

Sucking back the last of her blood, I heard her final heartbeat before ripping my fangs from her neck.

"So... you've met Eris," I simply dropped her lifeless body onto the cement ground, kicking her corpse away from me. Narrowing my eyes on her, I mused to myself, "That's very interesting."
