"I stayed up all night crafting words to tell you how I feel and as soon as I met your eyes, all words fell apart."

- Jeremy Lockhart

⚓️SKYLAR⚓️

The class finally settled down, but my eyes were still trained onto his back. He sat two seats in front of me and it somehow made me feel empty that he wasn't beside me.

Shaking off my feelings or most likely my hormones, I took out my literature book of the year which was the heartbreaking 'Romeo And Juliet' - a classic love tragedy I must add. Sometimes, I find it hard to believe that people would die for the person they fall in love with.

Maybe I felt this way because I never really felt love. But I was so sure I wouldn't die for anyone other than my mom. Never.
That's what I thought...

Clapping her hands joyfully, Ms Harvey got the attention of her students.

"Good morning everyone, it's great to have you all back here again! Today we have a new student who transferred from LA. Skylar, would you like to say a few words to the class?" Ms Harvey suggested.

Without hesitation, I stood up confidently. I was never afraid to speak in front of a large crowd, you could say I was the definition of bold.

"I'm Skylar Torres from LA and I came here to have a new beginning. I'm not exactly a big fan of literature, I prefer music to literature to be honest. I hope that I have a good experience here without any...distractions." I said sincerely with a tinge of bitterness at the end.

What the hell?! You just said you wanted that hot blonde guy and now you're just denying. You're absolutely brilliant Skylar! Figure out your emotions, would you?

A small voice at the back of my mind ranted away and sadly there was no mute switch in my mind. Sitting down, a few students smiled but the cute blonde boy just stared at me intensely.

I couldn't exactly figure out what his eyes held. Curiosity?

Frustration?

Confusion?

Maybe it's best if I had no one in my life, like the usual life I had in LA, at least I won't have any drama I thought to myself.

"Wonderful! Now can everyone flip to Act 1 of 'Romeo And Juliet' . This year we have a slight change in plans for literature. Each person would be assigned to do a skit and argumentative discussion.

I will assign your partners for the skit and the argumentative discussion would be a surprise. You'll not know who your partner is till the day where both of you will debate over a topic based on 'Romeo And Juliet'." Ms Harvey explained before finally taking a breather.

She then excused herself to go to the washroom. The class immediately became a noisy bunch of nuggets, and as a result I plugged in my earphones to listen to Ed Sheeran's newest album.

Tapping my fingers against the desk, I visualized each note and how the rhythm moved so smoothly by closing my eyes.

I suddenly felt someone's presence beside me which caused me to flutter my eyes open. Right in front of me was a pair of familiar honey brown eyes and a cheeky smile. Tristen rested his elbows on my desk while playing with my pens.

"Yes tristen?" I asked awkwardly.

"I'm bored." He pouted.

"I have a ball, go fetch." I threw my small orange ping pong ball across the class which accidentally hit the cute blonde guy's head.

He turned with a frown, looking around the classroom to find the culprit. Lowering my head, Tristen bursted out laughing.

"Damn, you just hit Jeremy. Either You have some guts to throw a ball at him or your throwing skills are just bad. " Tristen remarked.

"What's his name again?" Curiosity struck within me.

Instead of just giving me the blonde guy's name, Tristen gave me his whole background information.

"Jeremy Lockhart, the nicest guy who never got angry or into a fight in school. He's also the Captain of the swimming team, a straight A student and my best friend. But..." He hesitated.

"What do you mean by 'But' ? "

"He has the most b**chiest girlfriend, the total opposite of him. She's a combination of a puking dog and Regina George. I don't even know why he's dating her? He's just blinded by love I guess. She's Emily Valentino, the one I told you to keep away from. One hella of a jealous b**ch. " Tristen shook his head in disappointment.

So he's name is Jeremy, he seems like that good boy...with a mean girlfriend.
It couldn't have been more cliche.

"Well...he's cute I must admit." I mumbled out.

"You're not the only one who feels that way, cause even some guys in school would turn gay for him." Tristen chuckled.

"So who are you going lunch with?" Tristen gave me a boyish smile.

"Willow."

"WHAT?! You mean Willow A-Anderson?" He stuttered nervously.

"Do I see a blush creeping up your cheeks, Tristen?" I raised an eyebrow skeptically.

"No-no not at all." He placed both his hands over his cheeks.

"I could help you get her, you know?..." I suggested.

"And I could help you get Jeremy, you know?" He imitated my words with a grin.

"Are you insane?! I don't need to break another relationship!" I let a piece of me slip.

"Another? Have you done it before?" He raised an eyebrow this time round.

"That's for me to know and for you to never find out."

Short flashes of that night raced through my mind--- the car, the fire. Never will I go back there.

He nodded understandingly, I appreciated how Tristen didn't press on. It wasn't a topic I liked to bring up.

"Hey bro, you coming?" One of the boys called out for Tristen.

"I have to go now to Zach but I'll see you around. And the secret of both our crushes remains between us." He winked before walking to Zach who still had a sly smile on lips.

"I don't have a crush on him!!" I shouted out which made the whole class stare at me for a straight 5 seconds before getting back to their conversations.

Literature went by fast and we already had homework for the argumentative dissuasion which was "Do you think love is the strongest power in the world?"

Well my answer for that is...no it isn't the strongest power.

Little does Skylar know that Jeremy thinks differently...
