"You'll never be alone cause I'll be there with you from dusk till dawn."

-Jeremy Lockhart
=============
SKYLAR⚓️

"Damn, things really went down in that church huh?" Kai gulped after we related the entire incident. Pulling one more bandage over Jeremy's cut, I pressed onto it lightly.

"I'm fine Sky, you don't have to worry about me." Jeremy said for the millionth time, but I don't know what was wrong with me. I was feeling a strange emotion of panic the moment I saw the cut. To be honest, the emotions I've been getting recently were scaring me cause I never cared for someone's safety more than my mom's or Mateo's.

They hold a special place in my heart and somehow I felt that Jeremy was digging his own special place in my heart.

I didn't want him to break the walls that I took years to build back after Jonah. But I know that by each day that I'm yet to spend with him, he's going to tear down my walls—brick by brick.

And the best part is that he doesn't even know the things he does to me.

"I know, I know...I'm just wor–" I paused, looking away. Sensing the tension, Kai requested in a cheerful voice.

"JJ, the mail just came in today and I saw a letter for you, you might wanna go get it outside?" Jeremy held my eyes captive though Kai was talking to him. Somehow he's eyes told a subtle message along the lines – this conversation is not over.

Nodding his head, Jeremy wiped his palms against his sweatpants before walking out of the house. My eyes were trained onto his back the entire time and even when he walked out the door, my eyes stared longingly, missing his presence already.

"You like him." It wasn't a question. It was a statement. Kai's features were for once dead serious. Most people would probably ask whether or not you like a person but Kai...he knew it. And darn, was he confident about it.

"I don't know..." I mumbled out.

"So you're not denying it." He merely said.

"I-I..."

"Look Skylar, I know how you feel. I liked a girl–what am I saying? I love her. But she left me for another guy, someone much more...mature than I was maybe but-" I felt the need to interrupt.

"I'm sorry Kai, that this happened to—"

"Don't be, I'm not sad to be honest, you know why?" I shook my head in uncertainty, still puzzled why he felt this way.

"I'm not sad because I knew I tried. Hell, I don't regret anything cause I spent one of the best two years of my life with her and I treasured every second with her. So when she left me, sure I was slightly sad but I knew that I did make something out of the love I had and I did change someone's life. I changed her into the person she is today, I made an impact on her. A huge one." He laughed to himself as if he was recalling some memories.

"Do-do you still love her?" I asked softly, clearly intrigued with his story.

"I never stopped loving her even when she left...Though she's engaged with some other rich ass guy because her parents forced her into it, I haven't stop chasing after her. I'll go miles until she's mine. I made a promise to not only her, but myself and her parents. I will never stop fighting for her—that's what love does to people. " he bit his lip, his eyes sparkling with admiration.

Unknowingly, a smile crept its way to my lips. "You know what I noticed about you and your brother?"

"Enlighten me."

"Both of you give your everything for love and dedicate so much to it. Not many have that quality, I don't have it..."

"It runs in the Harris fam, but anyone can be like this. It's just whether you want to make the first step, will you do that Skylar? You don't have to tell me, just think about it aye?" He cupped my chin, smiling with hope. Nodding, I stood up.

"Thanks Kai, you're great help"

"No problem Skylar, by the way, Gabriel is above in his room." He ruffled my hair.

"WHAT?! You didn't tell me!!" I was already running up the flight of steps, excited to see him.

"Why do you seem more excited to see Gabriel than me??!" I sticked out my tongue like a 5 year old in response  while he pouted.

Walking through the hallway, I realized that I didn't even know which door was Gabriel's. Along the walls were pictures of his family—Kai, his mom and dad I suppose, himself and...

Who was that? My eyes squinted, noticing every picture had an extra same guy in it.

"That's Liam." A voice spoke from behind, whirling around almost immediately I came upon the familiar greenish blue eyes.

"GABRIEL!" I ran right to him. Curling his arms around my waist, he placed his chin on my head as he laughed softly.

Pulling away, I was glad that nowadays I could make him smile more than he used to.

"Who's Liam?" I got back to the topic.

"My eldest brother."

"You have another brother?! Why didn't you tell me?!"

"You didn't ask and you must know by now that I only speak when asked." He shrugged nonchantly.

"Why don't you talk about him? Kai doesn't too." My eyes soften cause I knew there was much more to it.

"He's in juvie, my parents kind of disowned him cause they found him a disgrace to our sophisticated family." He said sarcastically, walking ahead with me following beside him.

"What do you think about this?"

"Well, I have to admit that he's trouble, but he's still my brother and I believe that there will be someone out there who could change him." He ended with certainty, and I decided not to prolong this topic. I could feel him becoming sad just by talking about it.

Pushing open his door open which had a huge golden G hung onto it, I couldn't believe my eyes.

The walls of his room were sprinkled with the primary colours—red, blue and yellow. The ceiling was filled with stars and planets that he drew and painted over the dark blue background. His desk was filled with different sorts of brushes and the best of all was his balcony which displayed the view right near the sea.

Absolutely breathtaking.

"I've been wanting to show you this for a long time," he led me to the balcony where his stand and portrait paper was placed at. He was drawing the display before his eyes and the vividness of his drawing was unbelievable.

"You should definitely be an artist." I nudged him in support.

"I'm planning on it too!" He grinned, clearly proud by my compliment. Lying on his bean bag, I sighed.

"I heard all that happen at the church" he spoke out.

"Were you eavesdropping on us?" I faked shock with a gasp.

"Maybe..." he scrunched up his nose while raising his hands in surrender. He looked adorable.

"I heard your conversation with Kai too..." he muttered in guilt, this time I didn't smile.

I didn't want anyone else to know how vulnerable I truly am, even though Gabriel was one of most trusted friends. You could say I was embarrassed with how weak I could possibly be. I didn't want to show that I was feeling alone

"I know I shouldn't have done that but Kai has a point and he's never serious with anyone unless he really means it. So take his word." He clutched his fingers together, his lips in a thin line.

Giving him a small smile, he stretched out his arms with a lopsided smile. Unable to resist, I hugged him.

At that moment, I remembered how I told myself when I first came here that I needed no friends. But now, I realized that you can't fight every battle by yourself. Everyone needs that one person who would stay with them from dusk till dawn, even when they are at their lowest.

And I think is just found a real friend.
