Reading is great, but writing can be even more fun since you get to pick up the reins. The problem is that writing is much like a troublesome horse. It may need a bit of work and retraining.

I've had more people asking for advice than I have time to help, and since I was pointing out the same things frequently, I compiled all my tips and recommendations into this guide.

Please note that my writing tips follow the Chicago Manual of Style writing guide (you are free to use a different guide - keeping things consistent is the biggest thing).

Feel free to skip around to any chapter that interests you. Some chapters are designed for beginners, and some have Nitty Gritty tips aimed at writers with a drive for perfectionism.

English Basics:

I've seen these mistakes so many times that I've given them their own section. Aka. These four tiny details are important.) Everyone has to start with the basics, so here is the shortest (and most boring) section in this guide.

Paragraph length: In general, most paragraphs on Wattpad have 2-4 sentences due to the narrow writing columns.

One speaker per paragraph: Only one person can speak per paragraph, so a new speaker means a new paragraph, even if it is only a handful of words.

The first letter of a sentence has to be capitalized.

Each sentence must end with some sort of punctuation.

They are just four simple details, but they make a huge difference for readers, and they will appreciate it.

This is your story, and it's something you should be proud of.

If you take a few minutes to proofread each chapter, it will make a huge difference to your readers. It will also make your story look so much better.
