It was a phone call that got me running out of my house at eight in the morning.

It was a phone call that made me want to break down in sweat and tears.

It was a phone call that made me run out of the house in my hoodie and sweatpants.

It was a phone call that got me running to the hospital that was six miles away.

It was a phone call that made me feel like losing all hope.

It was a phone call telling me that my best friend was about to go into surgery that has a high chance of him losing his fucking life.

Flashback.
(3ʀᴅ ᴘᴇʀsᴏɴ ᴠɪᴇᴡ)
---------------------

The silent chirps of the morning birds flew by the rustling trees, the sun shining it's rays through the mediums of the sky. The wind whistled around, going about it's day.

Seventeen year old Lucas Saphrano had his fragile hand around the waist of his fourteen year old sister. Both of them sleeping peacefully on the Sunday morning. The younger siblings head tucked into her elder brothers chest— as if shielding herself from this extremely cruel world.

The peaceful silence at the early hours at the Saphrano home was broken by the ringing of a phone.

Elainy let out a tired groan of her chapped lips as she turned around and grabbed her phone— her eyes closed all the while.

She pressed answer and put the phone up against her right ear.

"H-hello?" She dragged out a tired yawn.

"Hello?" A feminine voice carried out— it sounded scared and shaken, as if it was going to break down at any moment. Elainy thought it sounded quite...familiar.

Elainy furrowed her eyebrows as she took the phone off of her ear and put it in front of her face. She slowly opened her sticky eyes to see the caller ID.

Her eyes widened as she put the phone back to her ear at the speed of lighting.

"T-Tyler! Are you okay?! Where are you? H-how- I mean why haven't you responded to my texts—"

"I'm not Tyler!" The voice cut her off urgently, causing Elainy to shut up immediately.

"Where is he?" Elainy asked immediately, not caring who was at the other end of the line.

"In the surgery room."

"IN THE WHAT?!" Elainy sat up straight as quick as possible throwing the duvets off of her. She sprinted to her bathroom and took a gargle of Listerine before spitting it out with speed.

The other end of the line was silent all that could be heard was faint chatter so Elainy took this as a sign to continue speaking.

She ran to her closet and browsed through her clothes but not before keeping her phone on he shoulder and pressing her ear against the so she could use her hand. "What do you mean surgery room? Wait- who even are you?" She sputtered out in hurry as she put on a random hoodie she could find.

She took her phone off of her shoulder and held it in her hands— awaiting an answer.

"His girlfriend." The voice said, with no hesitation.

Elainy widened her eyes and furrowed her eyebrows in disbelief. "I'm sorry his what?"

"Girlfriend." The voice cleared again before becoming frantic again. "Please just hurry quick. Tyler told me that the first person to call was you if anything happened to him. Please hurry! Things aren't looking good for him."

Thoughts flew out of Elainy's mind as she nodded and took shaken breaths. "Okay okay, what's the address?!"

The feminine voice on the other end told her the address of a hospital as Elainy quickly grabbed the nearest piece of paper she could see -which was her physics homework- and a pen and with shakily hands wrote down the address frantically.

"W-what's going on...?" A tired voice came up from behind. Elainy cut the call and looked at her brother who sat up on her bed, rubbing his eyes tiredly. His blond mop of hair a cute little mess.

"Lucas can you please drive me." Elainy said, sounding desperate as she walked over to him.

"This early?" Lucas groaned, lying back down and shutting his eyes. "I'm too tired El, let's sleep." He muttered, letting out a yawn.

"L-Lucas please!" She exclaimed, smacking his face to wake him up.

Lucas scrunched his face in pain. "Owwww what was that for..." He mumbled while he pouted, rubbing his cheek in unison.

"Lucas I'm begging you!" She cried out.

It was enough to let Lucas know that wherever Elainy wanted to go, it was for urgent reasons. He opened his eyes and sat up. "Where do you need to go?" He asked in sincerity. "And why?" He added on.

Elainy paced back to her table and got the sheet of paper where the address was written on. "Here." She handed the piece of paper to him and pointed to the address in the bottom left corner. "Tyler." She responded his questions with two words.

"Get my keys." He said with no hesitation as he got up and walked out of the room and down to his.

Elaine raced behind and quickly got the car keys and then proceeding to go down the garage.

She waited there impatiently, her leg tapping the floor in anxiety— knowing the worst might be happening to her best friend and she isn't there by his side.

He's always there for her in her darkest of days and now it was her turn.

Lucas quickly came down, a bit of toothpaste smudged on his lips.

"Could you seriously have been any slower?!" His sister spat out as she threw him the keys that he caught easily with one hand.

Lucas ignored his sisters words and unlocked the car. "Get in." Was all he said.

Without wasting a single second Elainy got in no time and fastened her seatbelt as her brother drove out of the their garage.

"This hospital is kind of far..." Lucas muttered, his eyes on the road.

Elainy looked around his panel, seeing his GPS turned off. "And how do you know that?" She asked.

"I was the one who drove Ryan to the hospital when he overdosed on heroin while Blake was beating Derek up for talking shit about you and Ryan."

Elainy widened my eyes and gasped frantically. "Ryan takes drugs?! He overdosed?!"

Thousands of thoughts flew through her brain rapidly. 'What did he mean by that?' She thought.

"Fuck..." Lucas closed his eyes for a brief second before opening them agains— as if disappointed in himself for saying too much. "Forget I said anything."

"Who's Derek?" Elainy ignored his comments and continued to question.

"No one you have to worry about." Lucas grumbled, avoiding eye contact.

"Who gave Ryan the heroin?" She continued pushing on, not knowing she was reaching his limits.

"I said its nothing you have to worry about." Lucas stated sternly.

"Blake knows how to fi-"

"I said it's nothing you have to worry about now shut it!" Lucas yelled, loosing his control.

Elainy immediately shut up, knowing not to speak more.

The car ride was silent, Lucas was focused on the road while Elainy's thoughts were focused on her best friend.

The weather outside looked quite gloomy, but it hadn't rained yet.

"How much longer?" Elainy asked frantically after a few minutes of silence, looking at the window as they rode upon a highway.

"Twenty five minutes."

Elainy sighed at Lucas' vague answer.

-

The rain pattered down against the roof of the car as the shields of the car removed the pelting rain on the window. The car entered the hospital grounds and came to a halt, causing Elainy to unbuckle herself as quick as possible and throw herself out of the car.

She ran into the five story hospital that stood large and tall. Beside the entrance was an ambulance filled with male nurses carrying a person on a stretcher into the building, Elainy could see from a distance that their face was bloodied up and bruised horribly— as if something gruesome happened to them. Elainy pitied them but had no time to waste and didn't take a second glance at the scene happening in front of her. The girl ran to the automatic doors that let her in. As soon as she walked in it was as if the feeling of dread overcame. It was as if she finally let herself indulge in what was happening. Everything revolving around Tyler's cancer just felt so surreal up until now, like it didn't exist. When she entered the doors of the hospital it was like the feeling of dread and she was just so scared that everything suddenly became overwhelming to her.

The hospital was had a different aura to it. Everyone's spoke in hushed voices, doctors and nurses ran from places with IV bags and wheelchairs. The reception could be seen in the distance, where two female attendees sat, one of them on the telephone and the other typing away on her computer. There was a weeping women who was be consoled by a nurse and a young boy. A little far ahead there were two teenagers who held a pregnancy result in their hands— tears of joy covered their eyes and their lips met in less than a second. They didn't have the best home condition, but they'd do anything for the seedling in the females stomach.

The walls of he hospital were splashed with white paint, a huge chandelier that looked like it could fall off any minute hung there while it swung side to side, its metal parts scraping each other causing faint sounds to come out. The huge 'Emergencies open 24/7' above the receptionists head was written in bright red neon lights. In a little far left there was a door labeled 'waiting room' in big bold letters.

Elainy ran up to the reception, sweat starting to form on her forehead.

"Tyler Parker." She said in a swift movement. "Where is he?"

A receptionist raised a bony finger up, indicating Elainy to wait a minute before she cut the call and put on a profession face. "Hi, how may I help you?" She asked formally.

"I'm looking for a patient named Tyler, Tyler Parker." She sputtered out, feeling like any second she wastes is time away from her best friend.

"One moment please," The receptionist said, moving her lips that were filled with dark red lipstick. She started typing away on her computer and scrolled down through her mouse. "Full name?"

"Elainy Marie Saphrano." Elainy answered quickly.

The receptionist gave her a side ways glance before looking back at her computer. "The patients, not yours." She said in an annoyed and irritated tone.

"O-oh uh, Tyler कार्तिक Parker."

"And your relation to Mr Parker?" She asked, not looking up from her computer.

Elainy said the first thing that came to her mind.

"Girlfriend."

Elainy didn't know why she said that, maybe it was cause it was more of a in-the-moment kinda thing? Or perhaps maybe she was recalling the conversation she had with the mysterious female on he phone that morning. She was shocked but had a calm exposure, making sure the receptionist wouldn't see through her lies.

"Ma'am, Mr Parkers girlfriend is already in the waiting room." She told Elainy with a deadpanned expression.

"Oh uh, uh- did I say girlfriend? Oh no no what I meant was sister. You see, Tyler and I are so close that I'm his sister and his close friend that's a girl so I sometimes refer to myself as his girlfriend." She said with nervous laughter— hoping the receptionist would buy her pathetic story that she made up on the spot.

"Ma'am visiting hours don't open until twelve p.m unless you are a direct relative, please take a seat until then." The other receptionist butt in, her eyes now off her computers and on Elainy.

Elainy let out a sigh of defeat. "Fine."

Elainy muttered profanities as she dragged her legs into the waiting room.

Elainy's gaze swivelled over the waiting room, looking for a place for her and Lucas to sit. A TV played quietly in one corner, a distraction that might help keep her mind off the fact that her best friend was in the surgery room. The seats closest to it stood empty, sandwiched between two sweating and shivering men. As one leaned forward and filled the space with harsh, hacking coughs, Elainy understood why no one else had jumped at the prime location. She steered herself to the other side of the room, the bland walls and tableful of torn magazines suddenly much more appealing.

Elainy took a seat near the end of the room, keeping an empty one beside her for Lucas. As if Lucas heard her thoughts, he walked into the waiting room— looking around until he finally spotted his sister. Elainy gently patted to the leather seat beside her, indicating Lucas to come sit beside her.

Lucas gave her a half smiles and walked over before propping him down onto the chair, his hands on his thighs.

"I'm sorry," Lucas muttered under his breath, his gaze on his sister.

She furrowed her eyebrows, confused. "Huh? What're you sorry for?"

"For yelling at you in the car." He gulped the bile rising up his throat, guilt flashing in his eyes.

"Oh." Was all she said, nodding in acknowledgement. "It's okay." She mumbled.

Elainy felt her phone buzz in her pocket, she took it out to pass time.

Papi 🥵

:he didn't. He's an asshole and just stood in front of my car for

Elainy let out a soft giggle, this was just what she needed in this tense situation.

At the sound of his sisters soft giggles Lucas turned his head to look at her with a curious glance. Elainy smiled and showed him her phone.

"Papi?" Lucas whispered, he furrowed his eyebrows. "Who the fuck is that?" He asked, feeling the overprotective side for his sister come out.

"A person." She giggled, not noticing her siblings stern look.

Elainy turned her gaze from the phone to her brother, just then noticing his stern face which caused her to stop giggling immediately. "A friend,"

Lucas cocked his head and raised an eyebrow up. "It sounds like a boy." He murmured.

"Yes he has a penis." Elainy nodded along which caused her brother to chock on air.

"Aren't you like fourteen?" Lucas coughed.

Elainy shrugged. "I live in a house with three perverted boys and most of my friends are guys, so you tell me."

Lucas put on a sarcastic offended look. "Le gasp!" He exaggerated. "I am not perverted!" He said with a small smirk evident on his lips.

"Remind me who was telling me about their sex life last night?" Elainy pretended to think. "Oh wait! It's you!" She faked a smile at him.

"I was drunk!" He said in a defensive tone.

Elainy rolled her eyes that were so identical to Lucas' , she opened her mouth to come out with a witty remark until someone called out to her.

"E-Elainy?" A voice called out.

The girl focused her gaze ahead, meeting with a pair of legs wearing legs, she slowly moved her gaze up to meet with the familiar face who called out to her.

Elainy stood up immediately. "Joanna?"

Joanna smiled at her but behind that smile held a pained expression that Elainy could see very clearly— she was great at reading expressions.

"What are you doing here, a-are you okay?" The fourteen year old spoke in concern.

"I was the one who spoke to you on the phone...about T-Tyler." The elder girl spoke.

"So...are you guys really dating now?" Elainy asked, her voice shook as she did so, but she didn't know why.

"I mean," Joanna started. "To be honest, I honestly don't know where we stand. Sure we've gone out together but there's just something different." She sighed.

"What do you mean?"

"I've seen the way Tyler looks at you, talk about you." She started which caused Lucas to form a knowing smile upon his face. "He just doesn't look at me the same way, when he asked me to call you it sounded like he needed you— and Tyler is pretty independent he isn't the type to need someone." She sighed. "So it doesn't really assure me." She said with a saddened expression.

Elainy shook her head. "No no no, don't say that. I can assure you that Tyler and I are just friends." She said, keeping a reassuring hand on Joanna. "Tyler would never do that to you or anyone in the fact, he's such a compassionate and reassuring person he couldn't do that to anyone." She smile at Joanna. "Tyler is my best friend, a brother even, so don't worry. He would never do that to you." She finished off with a pat on Joanna's shoulder.

Joanna smiled a bit. "Thanks, that feels a bit better coming from you."

Elainy smiled and nodded. "Anytime."

Joanna's gaze the turned to Lucas who gave her a small smile.

"Oh where were my manners,"Elainy gently scolded herself. "This is my brother Lucas and Lucas this is Tylers girlfriend Joanna." She introduced the two individuals to one another as Lucas stood up and lent a hand out in unison.

Joanna shook it and smiled softly at Lucas. "Nice to meet you."

"You too." Lucas returned the gestured before letting go and sitting back down.

Elainy's face suddenly went worried as Tylers beautiful face flashed in her eyes. "Joanna?"

"Yes?"

"Can you please tell me what's going on with Tyler? He doesn't tell me anything."

"Maybe he doesn't want you to worry about him." Joanna reassured.

Elainy shrugged. "Maybe, but can you
