"Ms Banerjee called and erm...Tyler's condition has gotten worse."

"What?" I breathed out in disbelief.

"No. No. No. This- this can't be no." I breathed out as I shook my head vigorously, it was like I was convincing myself more than I was convincing them.

I stood up. "No yo-you're lying, no." I whispered to myself softly.

"Honey I know this is hard-" Mum started.

"No! You're lying!" I roared at them as I sprinted towards the door, clutching the beanie in my hands.

I opened the door and sprinted out, not bothering to close it behind me.

"No. No. No. No. This can't be happening. No." I mumbled under my breath as I sprinted down the street.

"Elainy!" My dad called behind me, I didn't bother looking back. My best friend was my top priority right now.

The rain poured water on my already wet clothes, making them damp and my speed slower because of the weight of my clothes.
In order for the beanie to not get wet, I stuffed it into the back pocket of my jeans.

Tears threatened to escape my eyes as I pushed through people walking on the sidewalk. Mumbling a small "Sorry." Or "Excuse me."

"This can't be happening!" I groaned in frustration as a stray tear escaped from my left eye.

I left my neighbourhood and sprinted down the main road.

Tyler's house was just two blocks away, but right now it felt like it was a continent away.

The traffic light was green as cars filled with people zoomed passed, wanting to get to the comfort of their homes.

I didn't bother looking, I sprinted across the road. Yes. The road during the green light. As I was running I didn't notice a black car zooming up to me, luckily the driver hit the brakes. I stopped and looked at the car with wide eyes. The passenger window of the car rolled down and a man who seemed to be in his forties brought his already balding head out with an angered expression. "Aye! Move along you foolish girl! Are you blind?! Can't you see the green light?!" He rambled.

I ignored him and dashed to the sidewalk, running to my best friend's house.

I felt tears streaming down my cold and now pale face.

I can't cry, I have to stay strong.

For me.

No.

For Tyler.

My legs suddenly started to feel like noodles after running continuously. My whole body started to give up on my legs. My legs wanted to give up on my body. They were at constant war with each other as I forced my legs to keep sprinting even though my lungs were practically begging me to stop and take in a small amount of air. My whole body wanted to go limp there and then, but my mind told me to get to my best friend and my heart? It told me that...I was too late.

That only pushed me to go faster. No way in hell is I losing my best friend.

No.

Not again.

After sprinting for five minutes straight, I was greeted with the rich side of town, also where Tyler lived.

I stumbled into 'Le Fantasme'. The rich part of town where Tyler lived. Tyler's mom was an Engineering Manager, one of the highest-paying jobs you can get. Tyler's dad was in the military, so he rarely got to see his dad and on top of that, his parents were divorced when he was seven.

It was a hard time for both me and Tyler. Ms Banerjee was like a second mother to me, she would let me stay at her house when Nayna and mum would fight when my brothers would kick me out for their high school parties, and etcetera. Even though I didn't know Mr Parker that well, I knew he adored Tyler. He was very nice and welcoming.

When his parents were filing for divorce Tyler skipped school for five days, feeling incredibly dull and sad. He would come over to my house and spend the night because of the constant fighting of his parents. I couldn't leave Tyler's side, so I skipped school as well. My parents didn't say anything because they understood why I was doing this. They knew I was really close to Tyler.

Flashback.

(3ʀᴅ ᴘᴇʀsᴏɴ ᴠɪᴇᴡ)
---------------------

It was a sunny afternoon on a relaxing Sunday. The sun was out, beaming and sharing its joy with the world. The Saphrano parents were out to work, leaving their four young children and a nanny at home.

Their ten-year-old sons, Blake, Ryan, and Lucas were out in their pool swimming and having fun. Splashing the water on each other, diving, flipping, and doing tricks, just having fun.

Their seven-year-old daughter was rather enjoying the company of a book inside their living room, it was far too hot for her liking and decided to stay inside instead, letting her imagination get the best of her. Her short figure was lying on the couch, her two arms stretched out holding the book above her face, while her eyes skimmed through the pages of words.

Their nanny cooked lunch for them in the kitchen, which she may or may not have put a little too much of salt in.

It was the ring of the doorbell that got the seven-year-old to jolt up in fright since she was too concentrated in her book to notice her surroundings. She sat up straight and waited for a few seconds, waiting for someone to get the door.

After the second doorbell, she knew no one was going to get it. She sighed and climbed down the couch and waddled over to the front door.

The doorknob was a bit high for the child's reach, she jumped up only to stop immediately.

Her nayna has taught her to never open the door alone or without an adult nearby. Her nayna told her that bad men and women can take her away and she'd never get to see her again. She looked around the living room and confirmed she was the only one there. Her nayna told her to look through the peephole but that was much higher, way too much. Her nayna also told her the secret safe sentence only her family knew, so when she'd called out they'd answer it.

"After all this time?" The child sang out teasingly at the door.

Sniffles emitted from the other side of the door. "A-Always." The voice cracked.

The girl furrowed her eyebrows and unlocks her door and opens it, on her doorstep was a little boy.

He was looking down at the ground, his black hair sweeping his forehead. He looked up, his sea-green eyes now red as he looked up. His tear-stained cheeks were red as well. His eyes showed dismay. In his right hand, he held a small strap-bag.

"Tyler?" The little girl squeaked out looking at her broken best friend in front of her.

He looked up and met her gaze, a tear slipping out of his left eye. "They did it."

"Oh gosh, Tyler." Without hesitation, she wrapped her arms around her best friends neck. "I'm so sorry." She mumbled into his shoulder.

He reacted quickly, he let go of the bag and it dropped on the floor with a slight 'thud' and wrapped his arms around her waist as he buried his face into her hair.

According to him, her hair smelled like fresh raspberries and lemons.

Elainy was shorter than her best friend, reaching only till about a quarter of his head.

They stayed like that for a few seconds, enjoying the company of each other.

Elainy let go but Tyler didn't bulge, she silently chuckled to herself but then immediately stopped, knowing her best friend needed her right now more than ever. She reached back and wrapped her arm around his neck once again.

She mumbled sweet nothings into his shoulder while rubbing his back up and down.

Tyler took in a shaky breath and hugged her closer and tighter as he sobbed and his voice cracked.

"I already lost ma and pa. I can't lose you too Elainy."

"You won't. I promise."

End of Flashback
---------------------------

I remembered that day. It was hard. He stayed for two nights after that. He used to sleep next to me on my pink Barbie bed, when he thought I was asleep, he would silently cry to himself, trying not to wake me up when I wasn't asleep, just listening to him cry. He always would blame himself for the divorce of his parents and he still does. I reminded him all the time that it wasn't his fault and his parents were better off alone.

My brothers came in that day, they awkwardly patted his back and told him that it's going to be ok.

It was funny.

Tyler and I were very close, ever since we met in second grade. Everyone in second grade up to fourth grade believed in cooties and we did too, but not when it came to each other. He'd hug me in class and the boys and girls would shriek 'Ew! Cooties!' Or 'Tyler and Elainy sitting on a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g,' and so on. But we would simply shrug it off because we knew it wasn't true.

'Le Fantasme' was a guarded colony, where only the rich and wealthy lived and stayed. There was a small roofed compartment where the guard of the colony sat, his feet up to his desk, his eyes trained on his adult magazine as he grinned to himself as his blue hat was close to falling of off his balding head.

The guard has been working here for around two years now so he knows me.

The guard of the gateway let me through without looking up from his magazine. He pressed a button -not taking his eyes off the magazine- and the big metal gates opened, revealing the rich side of town.

There were puddles everywhere, the rain was greeting the hard concrete road like an old friend. Rows of big and colourful mansions put up.

I had been here several hundred times, yet the rich and aura of this place always managed to take my breath away.

The heavy rain was now pelting on me like a belt would as it stomped on my body, leaving its trails of water behind.

The light auburn yellow mini-mansion that my best friend and his mother lived in was now a light Grey due to the rain. Rows of colourful yet, simple mansions and mini-mansions came into my view.

The houses weren't big enough to be called mansions but they were close to it, like a mini-mansion.

I was now giving away all my energy to sprint to his house.

As I was running my left foot got caught in a muddy puddle causing me to plant face first in the concrete.

"Owww," I mumbled under my breath as tears stung my eyes.

Tiny rocks were stuck to my face, trying to get in. The dust wasn't different, they were trying to get into me through my nose.

I tried to get up, using my arms first. I had no energy left in me, I had just run for twenty minutes straight without a second of a break, this was kind of like a break, that is, if you call falling face-first into the concrete a break. The rain wasn't helping much either. It was forcing me back onto the ground like a personal trainer would when training someone to do a push-up.

I finally managed to get up but my shoes were stuck in the puddle. I internally groaned as I stepped my leg out and mud dropped onto the ground, a droplet by droplet from my ankles.

I quickly brushed my clothes and my face and I started running, only for my speed to become slower.

My shoes were sticking on the ground thanks to the mud.

I ignored it and continued to run up to his house until I slipped but somehow I didn't fall.

I groaned in frustration. "Ugh!"

I brought my right leg up and reached my ankle and tore the brand new shoe off and threw it on the ground and I did the same with the other leg, then I continued to sprint yup.

My feet were now only covered in my socks, running up a road of a compound looking like a mad women

'Rest in peace white beautiful new shoes, you will never be forgotten...' Luna sighed dramatically as she emphasized the word 'white'. 'They were really expensive El, you bought them with your own money and you just throw it away like that?! I could never-'

"Shut up Luna! Just shut up! I can't take your annoying fu*king voice for another minute! I don't care about the shoes! I don't care how much they cost! I don't care if I bought them myself! I don't care! I can always get new ones! I can't get a new Tyler!" I roared as I stepped up to Parker's doorstep.

She listened and there was no voice after that in my head.

I quickly brushed my clothes and wiped my eyes so it didn't look like I was crying just a few minutes ago.

I ring the doorbell and waited impatiently.

Heels clicking on the floor could be heard coming from the inside of the house getting closer to the door. A few moments later the brown Chestnut door opened to reveal Tyler's mom.

Tyler's mom was in her early forties, but she looks so much younger than that. If you meet her for the first time, she'd look in her early thirties to you. She had the most beautiful hair I have ever seen. Her silky jet black locks reached her waist, they were always smooth and silky, never once have I seen them knotted it tangled together like my hair. Her hair was now tied up in a messy bun made with stress. Her beautiful deep brown skin matched her freshly painted light blue malive nails perfectly. Her usual bright green eyes were now shining with sadness and despair. She was tall for a woman her age, her black shiny pencil heels might've helped her a bit. She was wearing a thin blue jean shirt that was tied in a knot to her stomach, a pair of sarcoline leggings to pair with.

She opened the door, the first thing I noticed was her eyes. Her eyes slightly puffy and red, indicating that she was crying and rubbing her eyes for a while. Her slightly chapped lips gave away that she had been licking them.

When she saw me she gave me a smile that I knew that was strained, she took in my appearance and her lips slightly parted.

I could understand why she was looking at me like that, I looked like a madwoman.

My chest was heaving up and down in tiredness, I just ran for a long time so what do you expect? My pale red cheeks were now strained with dried tears, leaving behind trails of mark. My hair was straight because of all the water seeping through it. My clothes were all ruffled and shagged, as well as damped in water. I was bare feet as I wasn't wearing any shoes.

Ms Banerjee looked at me and immediately brought me into a warm hug, without hesitation I wrapped my arms around her torso. Her cheek rested on my head while I silently cried into her chest. She rubbed me back up and down in an attempt to calm me down.

"तू कैसी है?" (How are you?) She mumbled into my hair.

"अच्छा हूँ, और आप?" (I'm good, and you?) My hoarse voice cracked out as my accent made the beautiful language sound weird.

She let go of the hug and kept her hands on her shoulders. "Honey, I've told you already. In Hindi, we say different words for two different genders. For example, you said 'अच्छा हूँ' when you're supposed to say 'अच्छी हूँ'" She smiled at me as she patted my cheeks gently, her Indian accent flowing with each word.

Yup, Tyler's mom's Indian which makes Tyler half Indian, his middle names Indian too.

Tyler कार्तिक Parker.

'कार्तिक' means 'November' in Hindi.

Which is perfect because he was born on November, November the eighteenth.

"Right, I'm sorry." I gently smile.

"I'm so sorry Ms. Banerjee, about Tyler." I pursed my lips to stop my tears from slipping.

"Oh, honey." She pulled me into another hug. "Nobody could've down anything, don't be sorry. It's not your fault." She kissed my forehead.

Normally people would be weirded out by their best friends mom kissing them, but not me.

Ms Banerjee has been treating me like her own since I met Tyler and we became good friends.

I know I shouldn't say this...but she's more of a mother to me than my actual mother.

She cares about me...a lot.

And she's said she loves me so many times.

I adore this woman. She's like a second mother to me.

I let go and looked into her eyes. "Where is h-he?" My voice cracked at the end.

"He's upstairs, wouldn't come out of his room at all, wouldn't eat either...plus his dad's not here, it's making him feel even worse." She sighed massaging her temples. "I feel like at this point you're the only one he'll open up to."

"Well come on in, I'll get you some fresh clothes." She smiled as I walked in.

"Thank you, but that won't be necessary." I shook my heart politely.

"Nonsense! You're going to catch a cold!" She lightly scolded me as she made her way downstairs to her basement, possibly to their laundry room.

While she was down there I took in the appearance of their house.

Tyler's family lived in a magnificent mini-mansion, which flaunts a small yet dainty garden at the entrance to their house. As you enter you will see an elegant formal living room attached to which is our stylish and chic family dining room. Adjacent to their munching area is a healthy kitchen that is a fashionable open one. They have three graceful and fancy bedrooms with the master bath on one side and the other two bedrooms on the opposite side of the house. There are translucent curtains running throughout the house and the entire house is painted in a light cream tint bringing in the required brightness and airiness.

Water dripped from me and my clothes as I visibly shivered in cold.

I stared at the staircase leading upstairs wanting nothing more than run up the stairs and throw myself on Tyler, but I knew better than not to do that, I was drenched and even though Ms Banerjee didn't mention it, I knew that her shirt was drenched as well because of me.

A few seconds later Ms. Banerjee rushed up the stairs almost tripping on her two legs as she held a towel and a pair of new clothes in her hands. I noticed she changed her shirt too, to an elegant velvet sweatshirt.

"Here, you know where the bathroom is so go change." She smiled as she patted my cheeks gently and ushered me to the nearest bathroom.

I smiled and thanked her then I made my way to the bathroom. I locked the door behind me and looked at the sweat pants and hoodie.

This women really knew me well.

Possibly better than my own mother.

It was dark salad green. It was pretty plain but I liked it, judging by the size I'm guessing it was Tyler's.

I changed and quickly took the dirty and wet clothes to the laundry rooms until I remembered something.

"Oh sh*t no! Please don't be wet please don't be wet!" I prayed as I took out the beanie from my wet jean pocket.

I clutched it in the palms of my hands and thanked God it wasn't wet. "Thank fu*king God." I sighed.

I placed the clothed in the laundry bag gently and made my way back upstairs.

I was about to ascend the stairs until Ms Banerjee stopped me.

"Darling, you hungry?" She asked.

I shook my head and smiled. "No thanks." I proceeded to climb up the stairs.

Tyler's room was down the hallway, their hallway was filled with family pictures with one smiling kid and two happy parents and occasionally there was one with me and him grinning our a*ses off.

I took a deep breath when I reached in front of his door, fighting back the tears threatening so bad to spill.

I knocked.

No response.

I knew the only way Tyler would open up.

I knocked on his door the same pattern in Frozen 1 when Anna
