- EDEN -

-

I SAT DOWN next to my father and watched as he groaned into his hands once more. He then looked up at me and I finally got a good look at his face. He had very visible eye bags matched with bloodshot eyes. His hair was a mess and his clothes were messy. I frowned, my dad was usually always neat and clean.

"Dad, what happened?" I asked.

He looked up at me, "I miss your mom and my family so so much."

My eyes widened a little as my lips parted. This was what this was all about. I knew one of them was going to explode, but I was sure it wasn't going to be Dad. I waited for him to say something else.

"I..." He sighed, "I found some flowers from a guy on her dresser and I just exploded."

My eyebrows furrowed, "She's seeing someone?"

He nodded, "When I saw them I realized that I really wanted this to work and that I didn't want anybody to have her but me."

I nodded, "Did you talk to her about it?"

He shook his head, "She won't listen,"

I frowned and turned to sit in front of my dad, "Maybe look at it from her side. You probably hurt her feelings with something that you did or said, but just remind her why she should let you back in. She'll realize that she was also in the wrong as much as you were." I said.

He nodded, "I could try that, but I just hope she's not too blinded by the things that went down a while ago."

I nodded, a soft smile on my face, "Maybe, just try it. Okay?"

He nodded and pulled me in for a hug. I smiled, "What would I do without you, Ede?"

I giggled, "Nothing,"

He laughed and quieted down after a while. It felt nice, just me and my dad. We never hung out just me and him, so I never felt as close to my dad.

"Did I make a big mess downstairs?" He asked, frowning and looking down at me.

I nodded, "It wasn't that big, but it was still a mess."

He sighed and got up, helping me up afterward. We both made our way downstairs and I offered to help my dad clean which he accepted.

"But I have to blast Katy Perry," I said. He rolled his eyes and reluctantly agreed.

With Teenage Dream blasting in the background I swept up the broken glass while my dad put things away. I got a text halfway through from Mom saying she was going to be home in 20 minutes.

I relayed that information to do and we panicked for a minute resorting to speed-cleaning. By the time 10 minutes had passed, the house was clean.

"Are you sure you can't stay?" I asked.

He shook his head, his lips pursed, "I don't want to be in the way,"

I nodded and watched as he fixed his clothes and brushed his hand through his hair. He picked up his keys and gestured for me to come closer. I smiled and walked closer wrapping him in a hug.

"Thank you so much, Ede," He whispered, planting a kiss on my head. I smiled.

I looked up at him, "You kinda owe me though,"

He laughed, "Definitely,"

I watched after he had let me go, open the door, and smile at me. I smiled back as he closed the door, leaving me alone for a few minutes.

I walked over to the couch and plopped down, pulling my phone out of my pocket. I opened Instagram and decided that I was still curious about those guys. With that in mind, I tried to search them up.

When I searched up Dawson Halifax, almost nothing came up, so I decided to search for something different. I went to Facebook and searched his mom's name up instead. Quickly typing in Melanie Halifax, her name popped up.

I clicked on her profile, a smile on my face, and looked at her bio. I knew it was her because she also lived in the same state and a picture of my mom was on her profile. I scrolled through her pictures and stopped at one with three boys.

They all had big smiles on their faces, their arms wrapped around each other's shoulders. The boy on the left side of the picture had dark brown and exceedingly curly hair. He looked adorable.

The boy on the right had pale skin with a head of dark brown hair. He was making a silly face at the camera and was missing a few teeth. I giggled at that.

My eyes fell on the boy in the middle. I frowned a little because in comparison to the other boys he didn't look happy. His lips were smiling, but his eyes weren't. He had skin that was clear and white, but not pale and a head of brown hair.

My eyes landed on his bright blue-green ones and I frowned again. How can eyes that innocent and pretty hold that much sadness? I sighed, shaking myself from my thoughts. I wondered which one of the three he was.

I heard keys entering the front door and people walk in. I quickly closed Facebook and looked up from the couch. My mom and Lydia were walking in, big smiles on their faces and ice creams in hand.

"Hey, Eden, I got rainbow sorbet and cookie dough ice cream!" She squealed.

I frowned in disgust, "At the same time?"

She nodded, "It tastes good, so I got you one too."

"Aw, thanks Dia," I said.

She smiled and bounded off to some other corner of the house. I looked to mom who had a few things in her hand and a small smile on her face.

I stared at her, lost in thought. I thought back to what my dad said about her seeing someone and frowned. I couldn't tell that she was dating anyone and I didn't know how I felt about it in the first place.

I got up and walked towards her. I stood next to her and watched as she put groceries away.

"What'd you guys do today?" I asked, spreading my legs out and leaning my chin in my hands.

She shook her head and a thoughtful frown on her face, "We went to the mall and picked Lydia up a new dress, went grocery shopping, and then got some ice cream."

I nodded, "We went shopping for swimsuits and then we saw Amanda. Bleh."

My mom rolled her eyes, "She's a sweetheart. I don't get why you don't like her."

I rolled my eyes, "Yada, yada."

She let out a scoff, a smile on her face. I turned around and slipped my shoes on. I wanted to go out for a walk, it always helped me organize my thoughts.

"Where are you going?" My mom asked. I turned and looked at her to see her paused by the fridge.

"I'm going out for a walk," I said, pointing out of the door, "Clear my head and stuff."

She nodded, "Don't be too long, okay?"

"Okay," I called back, walking out of the house. The warm, summer air met my face and I took in a large breath, releasing a sigh of content. This was the summer.

I took off down the sidewalk, a small smile on my face. The sun was at the point before it set and the sky was illuminated with so many different colors, blues, yellows, reds, and pinks.

I thought back to my dad's outburst a while earlier and frowned. I've never seen him like that and it bothered me so much. I mean I didn't blame my mom for wanting to move on, I didn't. They've been separated for months now, it was only natural.

I sighed and flinched as my phone rang in my pocket. I pulled my phone out and stared at the screen, my mood instantly plummeting.

No.

No.

No.

This can't be happening.

I stared at the name on the screen and felt tears prickle my eyes. All the memories, all the tears, and all the fears resurfaced in my brain.

The phone continued to ring and I watched as the phone continued to shake in my hand. I shook my head and willed the tears to stop. If the tears started coming down, there was no stopping them.

I took in a large breath and exhaled out of my mouth. I would get my emotions under control, this didn't affect me anymore. I would be okay.

Eventually, the phone stopped ringing. I let out a sigh of relief and wiped the tears off my face. He was gone, I thought, long gone.

I continued on my walk, my hands still shaking and my chest still having trouble breathing. Why did I still have his number saved? I questioned myself.

Why did he still affect me so much?

I decided to turn back around to my house. I had enough of being stuck in my head. Sometimes, my overthinking and overanalyzing got so bad...

I decided to stop thinking about it.

"You'll be okay, Eden. One day, you'll be happy, you'll be free and surrounded by people who love you." I reassured myself.

A soft smile landed on my lips.

Even though my life was filled with troubles and problems, I had faith that I'd be happy one day. Troubles with mom and dad would disappear, my friends and I'd feel better about ourselves, and I'd find someone who loves me for all of me.
