Kayla

I was definitely no longer sad. Felt like I was walking on cloud nine. Andre has a magical tongue and fingers but of course they only went so far. It only dulled the need for something more. I may end up raping him before this week is over. I walked out of our shared room with a big smile on my face. I went into the living room where everyone should be. Essence saw me and gave me a look. I wonder if they heard me. "Someone looks happy," Jules joked. I blushed and hid behind Andre as they laughed.

"Don't make no babies in my house," his mom said. Okay I guess they did hear. So embarrassing.

Suddenly someone cleared their throat and the room got tense and silent. I turned to see more people here. Two of them I recognized as Chris and Josh. They looked a lot better than the last time I saw them. Chris didn't meet my gaze but Josh did for a few seconds before his head fell to his feet.

"So this is the girlfriend we heard about." I turned to the person who was talking. It was a tall man with a beard and small scar under his left eye. He came up to me with a calculating gaze that made me squirm. He stuck his hand out to me. "I'm Steven Walters. Joshua's father. And this is my wife Gloria." He introduced the short lady, but somehow she was still taller than me 😒, that was standing a little away from him. She had bags under her eyes that she tried to cover with makeup and a somber look in her face.

"Hi," I said in a soft voice grabbing his hand. It was soft and smooth. He gazed at me and smiled. My body went tense and I quickly pulled away. "Nice to meet you," I mumbled going back to Andre's side.

"I'm Victor," a chilling voice said. I looked at the man who had a goatee and mustache. He had a bright smile on his face but his eyes...they held something different. The way he looked at me made me terrified. "My wife Helena." The woman next to him looked dignified. Her gaze was icy and a bit disapproving of everything. "Very nice to meet you." He stuck out his hand to me.

I don't know why but this man kind of scares me. I hung onto Andre's arm as I slowly brought my hand out to shake his. His hand was also soft and smooth as well as cold. I looked up at him and it looked like his eyes were trying to swallow me up. I felt like bugs were crawling all over my skin. "You can let her hand go now," I heard Andre say with a dangerous undertone.

"Of course," he let me go. I quickly retreated to Andre's side. Feeling the need for a very long and hot shower. "It's been a while Andre. Almost feels like you were trying to avoid us."

"Not trying," he said turning away from the guy. There was a look on the Victor guy's face that I couldn't quite understand.

"Well if it isn't my grandson." I turned to a woman in a pink outfit looking quite distinguished. She had on furs, diamonds and pearls. She looked way too young to be someone's grandmother. "Deandre it's been too long." She hugged him but Andre didn't really hug back.

"Edna," he said stepping away from her embrace. "You look...different."

"I know. I was in a small accident had some corrective surgery done. Helena pointed me to the best doctor there was. She's like a god send."

"Where's your other guests?" Andre's dad asked. He looked tense and uncomfortable.

"They'll fly out in a few days. They have families as well," Steven said.

"Henry, we should discuss business further," Victor said.

"I only handle business matters during business hours. Besides, you all just got here. Try settling in first and then we'll discuss whatever needs to be discussed. We have the guest house set up for you."

"Oh son that simply won't do," his mother said. "You can't put your mother out into that shack."

Mr. Jackson's jaw clenched. "There's nothing wrong with the guest house. The rooms in here are full so-"

"Let the children have the guest house. We adults can stay in the main house since there's a lot we need to discuss."

"Children?" I heard someone behind me chuckle. I turned and noticed it was Jules. And he looked livid. "Lady, nobody here is a child. We're all grown and as far as I'm concerned you BELONG in the guest house as a guest. If you think I'm going to give up my room just because you feel entitled to it you have another thing coming."

"You're not even a part of this fam-"

"The guest house is fine," Steven said giving her a look. "Isn't that right mother?"

"Yes. We have no problems with it. Correct?" Victor came up to her other side. Something feels very wrong with this situation.

"Right," she immediately backed down. "I just hope it's cleaner than the place is now." She threw a shady gaze towards Mrs. Jackson.

"Start and your ass can go to a hotel," Mr. Jackson said glaring at his mother. His mother gasped.

"How about we show you to the guest house?" I spoke up to diffuse the already hectic and tense atmosphere.

"Who are you?" their grandmother turned her nose up at me. She looked at me judgingly. I immediately wanted to shrink back into my shell.

"My girlfriend," Andre said with an edge to his voice. "Kayla, this is Edna."

"N-Nice to m-meet you," I stuttered nervously. Her disapproving gaze never wavered as she looked me up and down. "Uh...r-right this way. Essence and I-I will s-show you the w-way."

"Yeah," Essence mumbled walking beside me. "Good job," she whispered. I guess because I was able to stop the already crazy tension going on.

"This is outrageous," I heard behind me. "We're his blood family and he's kicking us out into the guest quarters. We have lots to discuss and he's acting like he could care less. He's got that unwanted pest and other little degenerates staying there when they're not even related."

"Blood doesn't make you family Edna," Essence snapped. "If you don't like it, go back to your own damn house and have Thanksgiving. No one asked you to be here."

"You brat! Just as unruly and unworthy as your mother. I am your elder so you will respect me."

"Bi-"

"Okay you guys that's enough," Chris spoke up. I forgot they were there for a second. "Nana, just stop okay? This is their house and their rules. We knew full well what was going to happen when we decided to come. We knew he didn't have the room and he was going to give us the guest house instead. Don't act surprise and start trouble please?"

"Don't worry son," Victor said putting a hand on his mother shoulder. I could've sworn she tensed up and a bit of fear flashed over her face. "We'll have a talk with our mother once we get settled in."

"Here you are," Essence said still looking all the bit upset. "Pick a room or jump off a cliff. I don't care."

"Uh...see you all later?" I offered before following Essence. I felt someone's gaze on me but I was too afraid to turn around and see who it was. "Andre says that too," I said. "Blood doesn't make you family."

"We got it from dad," she said. "Just because the same blood flows through our veins doesn't mean we're a family. Family is something more than blood ties. The people who would go to war for you and you would go to war for are your real family. People who never changed up on you, that's your family."

I took in what Essence said. It was hard for me to completely understand why it was so easy for Andre to cut ties with his people. But now I'm starting to really understand. They were never there for him like a family should. To him, family is about the bond not the blood. The bond between him and the rest of their family was severed so he no longer sees them as a part of himself. He really is different from me. I always thought that no matter what, blood is blood. That's your family whether you like it or not. Now, I'm starting to see that isn't the case.

We came back in the house and saw Mr. Jackson, Andre, and Jules with a cup in their hand. "I think I'm going to have to be drunk this whole week just to survive," Mr. Jackson said.

"I'm going to have to smoke every day. If I get drunk, someone's feelings going to get hurt," Jules growled before downing his cup.

"Y'all okay?" Essence asked. They scuffed. "Okay dumb question on my part. Y'all ain't about to explode are y'all?"

"Nah we straight," Andre said. His voice was flat and emotionless. I didn't like it. Andre was so carefree these past few days. Letting everything down and go as he enjoyed his time with his family. Now he's so guarded, tense, and cold. "Edna is as infectious as ever."

Jules scoffed. "Like a flesh eating disease."

"Hmm," Mr. Jackson hummed before downing his cup as well. "I'm going to go handle some business."

"Bring me back some weed," Jules said walking out the kitchen.

"You? Shit, I need a damn truck load for this week."

"Daddy, can you drop me off at my friend's house?" Essence followed behind him. It was just me and Andre. He stared into his cup as he looked to be in deep thought.

"Andre?" He looked down at me. "You going to be okay?"

"Yeah," he said. "I'm just letting everything sink in. I knew for a long time I would have to deal with them for an extended period of time. I thought I was prepared and could handle whatever they may dish out at me. I guess I was wrong. I already want to snap a neck or two and it's only been five minutes. I have no idea how I'll survive this whole week without killing somebody."

"It's going to be okay," I said. "You have me here to keep you calm and sane so don't worry. You'll survive just stay calm."

"You're right."

Andre

"Girl you up in the rich white folks neighborhood," April said. We both bust out laughing. Since there was so much tension in the house Kayla said we should go for a walk around the neighborhood. She's currently on FaceTime with April since she was finally free.

"Yeah. Everything is so pretty here too."

"Why y'all niggas walking around the neighborhood?" Shawn jumped on the camera. "Someone's going to come snatch y'all black asses up."

"Nigga," I laughed. "You know that shit is not happening. Besides, I had to leave that atmosphere. Just about everyone's here. Jules too."

"Oh that punk ass nigga," Shawn said getting upset. "He didn't say anything did he? Record everything. Knowing damn well I can't come back until Thanksgiving."

I chuckled. "Nah he ain't really get in them yet. Either he mellowed out or he tired from the long plane ride. I think he's just tired but I'm sure by tomorrow he'll be up and ready for them."

"Damn. That lying bastard. About to make me catch a flight tonight."

"Hello," Kayla said looking a bit annoyed. "This is my phone and my phone conversation with my best friend." She stopped for a second. "Wait, I thought you were going home for Thanksgiving Shawn?"

"I am," he said. "I grew up with the Jackson's you know."

"Seriously?!"

"I never told you?" I asked. "Shawn was in foster care most of his life before we adopted him."

"I had no idea," Kayla said wide eyed.

"Surprised me too," April said.

"What happened to your birth parents Shawn?"

"I don't know," he shrugged. "My mom didn't have me in a hospital so my birth wasn't on record until I was picked up from in front of some church. They don't have any information on who my folks might be. Don't matter though. Pops and ma my real fam anyway."

"Awe that's so sad."

"Sap ass," Shawn joked.

"Bye Shawn," she said hanging up. I laughed at her. "I'm glad you're feeling better though."

"Yeah," I chuckled. "Thanks for this. I just needed room to breathe."

"No problem. You know I got your back. I'll protect you from self-destructing."

"Oh yeah?" I wrapped my arms around her.

"Of course," she smiled. "You need me Mr. Jackson."

I chuckled. "I really do future Mrs. Jackson." I could see her blushing which caused me to laugh. "I do have to warn you about something though."

"What is it?"

"There's more people coming. Remember the contract Josh and Chris are going through with?" She nodded. "They want me to do it too so they invited the girls to spend Thanksgiving with us. Josh and Chris's fiancés as well as someone they want for me."

She raised her eyebrow at me. "And?"

"Just thought I should give you a heads up and to expect a rival."

"She's not a rival because you're mine. Got it?"

I raised my brow in surprise. I was not expecting this from Kayla. "Yes ma'am."

"I'm serious. If she comes near you, I will hurt her."

I chuckled. "I guess I'm rubbing off on you huh? But you ain't got to worry babe. If it ain't you then I don't want it." She nodded in satisfaction. We walked around some more before going back to the house. We were making plans about how we were going to keep our relationship up after Christmas break. Once I get my degree I'm going to move back home so I can get into the swing of things at the business. I agreed to fly out as often as I can on weekends and she'll do the same if her schedule permits it. She is in her last year of her degree so she doesn't have too many classes but next semester she'll have clinical studies so she's going to have to focus hard.

"We should do something spring break," she said as we came into the house. "Me, you, Shawn and April should go somewhere. It'll be fun."

"Oh yeah? So where to?"

"I want to see the beaches in California."

"If we put you in a bathing suit everyone's going to look at what's mines," I whined.

She smiled. "Let em look. As long as they don't touch."

"Oh they bet not touch," I growled. I grabbed her causing her to laugh. "Because all of this is mines. Only I can touch."

"Okay," she laughed once I started tickling her.

"Ehem," someone cleared their throat. We stopped our playing around and turned to who it was. It was Edna. I stood up straight and stared at her crazy. Why is this lady drinking my mom's wine? "So non-manners," she frowned. "That kind of language is not dignified."

"That weave you got in ain't dignified either," I mumbled. Kayla started laughing silently. "What's non-manners is opening up other people's belongings?"

"What? You mean this? Please, it's hardly worth a fuss. I've gotten pedicures that costs more than this bottle."

"Who the hell wants to touch your feet?" I muttered into Kayla's shoulder. She elbowed me but was laughing silently. "Whatcha doing here anyway? Shouldn't you be resting from your flight or whatever?"

"I'm perfectly fine. I came to speak with you. Alone." She barely spared Kayla a glance.

"Yeah I'm not in the mood. Me and my girlfriend have dinner plans so we'll be leaving now." Me and Kayla do have plans to go out tonight but with Edna here I think we'll leave a bit earlier than intended.

"She won't be your girlfriend for long," I heard her say. I stopped and slowly turned to face her. "She's not in the same class as you. You two won't last. Not as long as my number one pick has anything to do with it. You two are cute for now but once you see who I've chosen as your true wife, she won't be anything but a memory."

"Edna-" I glared at her, ready to curse her to hell and back.

"You're wrong," Kayla said. "Regardless of what you want Andre will do what he wants. If that includes me then so be it. We'll last a lot longer than you think. You don't know Andre like you think you do. Bringing another girl around won't change what we have and are building."

Edna glared at her but didn't say anything. We walked to our room to get dressed. "I think the corruption is getting real," I said staring at her.

"What corruption?" she played innocent. Yeah my mom has definitely gotten to her.

"Don't play innocent with me," I eyed her. I then smirked. "You realize you just told her I could do you if it makes me happy?"

"Shut up Andre," she threw a shirt at me while blushing. I started laughing at her. "You're so childish I swear."

"You love it," I smackedher butt before running into the bathroom. She whined about her showering firstbut I pretended not to hear. She called me childish again and I just laughed. She's such a big baby sometimes. But that's my baby and I have to admit that Iactually love this girl.
