Adena looked around. Wait, did she just hear her name? Then she saw Missy standing in front of the stage, where the DJ booth was.

Shit...

"Girl where have you been!?" Missy shouted, half so she could be heard and half because she was actually pissed, "Kim has been getting on my goddamn nerves, calling me all hours of the night looking for your ass!"

"Look look here we go," the waitress that has been waiting and spying on Craig and Adena said to her bartender bestie as she nodded her head toward the DJ booth. "That blonde sure looks pissed," she said after they watched Missy stomp over to the booth and shout at them.

Her bartender bestie shook her head, "See I told you. They all care" she said to her as she put down the bottles she was holding to watch.

"Should we call security?"

"Nah nah, not yet. Let's see how it plays out" bartender bestie said. "Serves him right. He's been doing good so far, no one has acted up like they do with the other DJs but another one bites the dust."

"Is that the same blonde that used to get up there and shout into the mic sometimes when she got too lit?"

"Not sure, she changed her hair color every time I saw her."

"Yo excuse me," someone said, trying to get bartender bestie's attention.

"I don't think I've seen her in a while, she don't come around like she used to."

"Trouble in paradise."

"Paradise. What is it about DJs anyway? They're really not that special. They set up playlists and press buttons. Anyone can do that" waitress said with a shake of her head. "Welp he seems like he's moved on."

"Of course. They can have any girl they want. DJs have just as much power as Lou" bartender bestie said, referring to their boss and owner of the club. "You get into the best clubs for free, you get free food and drinks, you don't have to wait in line, you get to feel special because there's always bound to be jealous bitches wondering what the hell makes you so special and you're really special when you two break up and you still get the 5-star treatment because you know all the people in the club."

"YO! YO!" the same person said, still trying to order their drink.

"What makes this new girl special? I've actually never seen her here. Maybe she's an out-of-towner" the waitress commented, both ignoring them.

"That's perfect. He can hit it and quit it without the clinginess."

Waitress rolled her eyes, "Men are so fucking dumb. I knew since I was a little girl. Once someone told me that boys were 'mean to you because they liked you', I realized I was queer. Heteros are so damn dramatic."

"Don't knock it 'til you try it."

"Who said I haven't? I went to college...she doesn't deserve to be up there-"

"Wait a minute. You got a crush on CD too?"

"No I want the out-of-towner," the waitress said as she eyed Adena. "She smells nice and she's beautiful, I talked to her. She seems out of place here. She deserves to be down here with us normal girls, we'll take care of her."

"Chill, don't get your panties moist-"

"YO! BITCH! I'VE BEEN TRYING TO ORDER A DRINK!" the person shouted at them. "GOSSIP SOME OTHER FUCKING TIME. I WANT MY TEQUILA!"

"Now you can call security because I'm about to knock this motherfucker out," bartender bestie said to her and the waitress waved him over. She wasn't lying, she beat up a lot of people. "You wanna say that again tough guy? What did you just call me?!"

Let's go back to the other situation at hand. Bartender's got it handled.

"Missy, I can explain-" Adena said as she stepped down from the DJ booth and off the stage. "'Scuse me I'll be right back," she said to Craig.

"Whatever, explain it to Kim because I'm calling her" Missy said as she unlocked her phone.

"No, I'm fine really-"

"No, she asked me to call her when I found you safe and sound and you are-"

"Well she isn't my mom so she's fine!" Adena said to her. But Missy wasn't hearing her. She started to walk away, and she pulled her by the arm, "Missy don't!"

"Um excuse me? Well, look at you!" Missy said as she pulled her arm away, "Being all aggressive and shit...and hanging out and drinking with the hot DJ too huh? Girl, you have only been divorced for like a few days and you already acting out??"

"Missy it's not-"

"I was only joking when I mentioned to Taye that you found a new man just to piss him off and you out here literally hitting the jackpot!"

"You told him that? Missy, it's not like that at all. He's just a friend-"

"Then what is it like? Because he sure is a cute ass 'friend'" Missy asked her, "And he's actually been out with a couple of my friends. He's kinda a player you know."

"No Craig is different-"

"You call him by his government?? I didn't know you were that close! You gotta stop picking these player's girl. He probably didn't tell you that he used to be with-"

"He's not like that, Missy. Just drop that ok? Don't call Kim. Don't tell Taye I'm sleeping around or whatever."

"Girl you don't need to care about what Taye thinks or doesn't think...oh speaking of...um Taye got arrested earlier today," Missy said as the music switched up. Craig started playing some merengue and the crowd started partnering up and going wild.

"TAYE WHAT?!" Adena said in shock.

"Girl come on, I can't hear shit," she said as she pulled her into the bathroom.

Once they were in there, it just reminded Adena about the last time she was here. Looking pathetic crying about Taye cheating on her with God knows what. This bathroom will never be the same after that. "Taye got arrested???" she exclaimed as she stood there uncomfortably.

"Yeah looking for you. He went to Donatella's making a whole damn scene. She called security on him."

"Oh my god, he was looking for me? Is he ok?"

"Girl, you don't have to care about whether he's ok or not. I hope he's not. All of this? All of what's happening to you both is karma from what HE caused. He's getting what he's owed."

"I know that Missy but is he ok? Please?"

Missy sighed, "Yeah he's good. I think his mom bailing him out or something, he may be home by now."

"Shit..."

"Where have you been? Huh? You know that Taye and Kim are hitting my phone up every hour on the hour looking for your ass? Your parents are worried and they are thinking about calling the police-"

"My parents?!"

"Yeah your parents, Taye freaked out again last night, called them - again looking for you, and told them everything. Nigga is going bonkers you understand me? It was surprising but also stupid because now they're calling me too. I had to turn my phone off. Just like you."

"Everything?" Adena asked timidly, "He told them everything everything?"

"Yeah, everything. He snitched on hisself. He played hisself. So they ain't a big fan of Taye's either and they worried about you too" Missy said. "You know what?" she said as she put down her drink that she hadn't even taken a sip of yet, "Here call them yourself and tell them you're ok. Ok? So they won't bother me!"

"No, I can't...I need more time" Adena said, starting to panic. Why did Taye have to call her parents? Why did he have to cause a scene and get himself arrested!? Now he was jobless with a record?? She didn't know whether to be pissed at him or worried about him. She didn't want to tell her parents yet, not now, but SHE wanted to be the one to tell them. He didn't have the right. They did not deserve to find out like this. Not like this. This was too embarrassing, she couldn't deal with all of this, not yet. What was her mom thinking of her? Her dad? That was why they were calling her more than usual? She saw all the missed calls but they called her all the time to just check up on her so she left it alone. They know how busy she is...or used to be.

Her life was falling apart whether she was there or not...

"What the fuck you mean, you need more time?" Missy asked her.

"I need more time. I need more time away from everyone ok? I need time to think!" Adena said trying to catch her breath. Damn it was hot in here.

Missy watched her best friend start to panic. "Well, what the fuck am I supposed to do then? Huh? Where have you been staying? Can you at least tell me that??" she said in a calmer tone.

"With Craig," Adena said quietly.

"With who? Because I thought you just said you've been staying with Craig-"

"I'm staying with Craig, Miss. Stop freaking out" Adena said, trying to take her own advice. She took a deep breath and exhaled. "Again, it's nothing like that. It's a long story but long story short, I met him at a bar on Saturday after Donatella practically let me go-"

"What you mean 'let you go'?"

"I messed up. I fucked up" Adena said as she leaned against the floor-to-ceiling mirror on the bathroom wall. "I made Kehinde Wiley leave his own showing early, which has never happened and he read me for filth at the door as he did so," she said sadly. She didn't want to recount the past couple of days. She just wanted to forget this past weekend ever happened.

Well right before she met Craig...

"Ok, I have no idea who you're talking about but lemme get this straight. Donatella fired her favorite employee for one mistake? And now one of the hottest DJs in New York is just a 'friend' of yours and you've been staying with him?" Missy asked her. "Girl, have you been fucking him?"

"NO!"

"Ok girl I had to ask because he is FINE! I would love to break up with somebody and run away with him."

Adena sighed, that was essentially what she was doing. Running. Running away with a stranger. But Craig never really felt like a stranger to her. She couldn't explain it and didn't want to because she knew she would sound crazy. "Look I can't tell you everything right now. I'm sorry. I owe you an explanation. Everyone; but I will tell you all everything when I'm ready ok?" Adena said to her. The fun was over. Even though she was more uptown, she felt a hundred miles away from home with Craig and she liked that. She needed that.

She just wanted to go away for a while, be away for a while. She wanted a fucking break. If her life in Brooklyn was falling apart, she would gladly go anywhere else to get away from it, whether it was Queens or Quebec.

"Ok fine. I understand now. You lost your man. You lost your job. So you made a random crazy-ass decision and went to 'stay' with a cute DJ...I would've done the same thing" Missy said, trying to process the way Adena's mind was working.

"Oh of course you would" Adena cracked a smile, her breathing slowing down to normal again. Missy picked up her double shot of whatever it was in her glass. "What's that?" Adena asked.

"It's just Patron. Old faithful. I love it because it does what it's supposed to do. It will get you fucked up and help you forget everything" Missy said with a laugh, "It's too strong for you though."

"It helps you forget everything?" Adena asked her. Missy nodded, and as she did so, she watched in shock as Adena grabbed HER double shot of Patron and downed it. Adena made a few disgusted faces, put the glass down, and started coughing.

"Girl! WHAT THE FUCK?" Missy said in surprise. She didn't know whether to be happy or upset that she just stole her drink like that. But she's been waiting for this side of her since they met in college. She came close to it on the night of her bachelorette party but she yearned to go out on the town night after night with her best friend. Kim was fun but she was different. Hot and cold. You never knew if you were gonna get calm, cool, and collected Kim or annoying, all up in your business, bossy, judge-y Kim. Going out with random dudes and girls, and co-workers were fun but she and Adena had a special connection. They joked that they had a soul connection. Adena was like the responsible older sister she always wanted. When you grow up with 5 brothers, you yearn for a female that understands you and that was Adena. Even as stiff, always professional, and rigid as she is. Missy wished Adena would loosen up because she deserved to just let it all go and be free like everyone else. Like she was.

"Ok...Missy? I need a favor."

"Are you serious? You steal my drink and now you want me to do you a favor?!" she asked with a laugh.

"I need you to call Kim and just tell her that I'm fine. Tell her that...I called YOU and told you that I went away ok? To think ok? Can you do that for me? Please?"

"Fine-"

"Now?"

"Now?! Right now?"

"I know she's worried. The sooner the better so she can get off your case."

Soon a group of drunk girls rushed out of the bathroom as Craig started playing 90's and 80's hip hop, "It's about fucking time! This my jam-" Missy said.

"You never saw me ok?" Adena asked her.

"Ok...but when will I see you?" she asked her, "Hell will I ever see you again?" she laughed.

"Soon, when I get everything sorted out," Adena said.

"Ok, hug me," Missy said to her and Adena giggled and gave her a hug. Missy held her tighter than usual and it felt good to be missed.

"Love you, crazy," Adena said to her.

"Love you, sexy" Missy said to her. "I didn't get to tell you your outfit is bomb," she said to her.

Adena blew her a kiss and walked out of the bathroom. Missy stared at her phone. Hell, well here goes nothing...

As Adena tried to get through the crowd, she saw their waitress coming with another martini for her and a scotch for Craig. "Hey, can I ask a favor?"

"You don't want the martini?" the waitress asked her as she looked her up and down.

"Um yes, I do," she said as she took it off the tray. Why was she looking at her like that? "Can I send a friend a drink too? On the house?"

"Usually no. Not if she's not in the booth with you but I'll make an exception for you. But the club is packed how am I gonna find them?"

"She's blonde, wearing an all-red outfit, red shades, the girl I was talking to-"

"Oh I know who you're talking about, she comes here all the time," the waitress said as they walked up into the DJ booth, "Just this once. What do you want me to get for her?"

"A double shot of Patron."

"Ok, that's IF I can find her."

"Thank you so much."

"No problem, call me Nicole," she said to her with a wink. She handed Craig his drink and walked out of the booth.

"I think she likes you," Craig said as he watched Nicole leave.

"Who? Her? I mean yeah, she's nice."

"No I mean, she likes you, likes you."

"Who? Nicole? No...stop playing" she said laughing nervously and sipping on her martini.

"You won't believe this" Nicole said as she walked over to her bartender bestie. "New girl is buying her 'friend' a double shot of Patron but since she's with ol' boy she getting it on the house ok?" she added. "Can you believe?"

"Wow so they made up?" she said as she poured the shot and handed it to her.

"Yeah, maybe they're gonna have a threesome," Nicole said with a laugh. Her mind was always in the gutter, especially when it came to beautiful women. "Must be nice. Lemme go find this friend of theirs and make nice" she said as she took the shot and looked around for Missy.

*

On the whole, Capricorns are not jealous people...they just don't have the time.

*

"She said what?!" Kim said to Missy once she heard the news, "That's it? That's all she told you?"

"Yeah, now call Taye and tell him so you all can leave me alone," Missy told her.

"Well, why couldn't she call me? If she's away, who is she with?"

"I don't know Kim, she didn't have much to say and then she rushed me off the phone. That's all I can tell you."

Kim sighed. She was upset that Adena called Missy and not her. She felt like she and Adena understood each other way better than she and Missy, she thought they were closer too because Missy can be on that ratchet shit. "Well I'm still worried but at least she's still alive..."

"Ok well, I gotta go ok? See I told you, she's fine. Now go to sleep or something."

They said their goodbyes and then hung up. However, Kim still had a feeling that Missy wasn't telling her everything like there was more to the story...

*

Capricorns are always so aware of their duties and responsibilities that they often find it very difficult to allow themselves to enjoy anything for its own sake...

*

"Oooh, that Patron was strong," Adena said with a laugh as she and Craig got ready to leave the club later that night...or more like early morning. It was way past 2 am. Adena kind of freaked out after she saw Missy but she figured those shots would help her forget everything and she needed to forget what just happened. Knowing that Taye told her parents everything, Taye also going to jail, Donatella having him arrested...she just wanted to sink into a black hole.

"Ok well can you please, kindly tell me what's going on? You seem different" Craig asked her, "Was that blonde a friend of yours?"

"Yes, she's one of my best friends."

"One of the people that's been looking for you?"

"Yes," she said quickly, "Do you mind if I stay with you? Just a little bit longer? I'm not ready...I need to think..."

"Yeah, it's fine..." Craig said, "But what about your friend?"

"I told her I was fine and to tell everyone that's been calling me that I'm ok. That I'm away and that I needed time to think. I'm gonna need to get some clothes. I'm gonna need to go home. I may not have enough even after what I bought today, just in case."

She also felt the need to check on Taye. If his mom got him out, maybe he was with her but if he was at home, she had to at least ask if he was alright. Taye was never made for jail. Her neither.

Craig nodded, "You need me to come with? I mean you are kind of...inebriated..."

"But I'm not drunk. I'll be back" Adena said quickly as she walked down the alley to the front of the club. Craig hurriedly put his equipment in the trunk of the Uber.

"Do you need me to come with you?" he called after her. Why was she in a rush to go home all of a sudden? Was she drunk enough to miss her ex?

"Nope!" she said as she turned around and walked backward some. She then turned back around and was able to get right into a cab, which set his mind at ease. He almost wanted to tell the Uber driver to follow her cab.

"Where we going? Home?" the Uber driver asked as he put the car in reverse.

"Yeah I'm going home..." he said as he looked out the window, keeping his eye on Adena's cab until he couldn't see it anymore.

"So where we headed? You going home?" the cab driver asked Adena as they pulled away from the curb.

However, she was distracted as she was looking at Craig get into his Uber, she swore she saw the girl she saw yesterday. The one wearing all white holding up the sign. She had no sign this time. She was holding her coat and trying to put it on as she exited the bar across the street. Was that really her?? And to make matters...weirder...she was wearing a sweater that read: I HAVE MIXED DRINKS ABOUT FEELINGS.

She realized that's what she's been doing since Saturday after Donatella let her go and her world started to crumble. Was she really drinking it all away and running away like some
