.One Small Mistake.

August Twenty-sixth,  Twenty twenty-three.
Charlotte, North Carolina

WHEN JAYLEN woke up, it was around eleven o'clock in the morning. This meant that his mother was most likely out with her friends. He exited from out of his room, heading downstairs to the kitchen.

When he entered, there was a small not laying on top of the counter. The not was from his sister telling him about LaMelo's practice and how she had went.

The boy groaned, knowing that his sister had likely taken her car so he had to walked around 15 minutes to the park. The boy hurried upstairs to get dressed, knowing that the court usually got crowded around twelve .

Before he left out the house, Jaylen made sure that he had grabbed his phone, aipods, and his basketball. He didn't want to reach the park and realize that he had forgotten something. When he got to the courts he could see two older lightskins shooting around.

As he got closer to the men. he realized that it was Lonzo and LiAngelo Ball.  Jaylen froze in shock, blinking his eyes profusely. Seeing Lonzo and LiAngelo down at his local court was something he ahd never thought off.

As he walked closer, he caught the attention off the two ball players. Pausing from their one on one, the two turned to face Jaylen. "Yoo.." LiAngelo spoke up, noticing that he had looked somewhat familiar.

"Wassup" Jaylen said nervously, tossing his ball from one hand to the other. "Sorry but like- you just look hella familiar" LiAngelo passed his brother the ball, stepping closer to the younger boy.

"You ball by any chance?" Jaylen nodded slowly, trying to let the fact that he was talking to one of his favorite basketball players. "Uh, sorry to interrupt but do you know how to get to the spectrum center? my gps acting weird"

Lonzo questioned Jaylen, his eyes still on his phone which was froze. "Yeah, its not that far from here actually" The older nodded his head, glancing over at his brother before speaking once more.

"You think you could take us there? only if you got the time for it though I don't want to interfere with anything you had going on or nothing" Jaylen shrugged his shoulder, deciding he could shoot around another time.

"Yeah, uh- y'all can follow me" Jaylen walked the guys to the center, the usual eight minute walk from the courts turning into twelve. LiAngelo and Lonzo couldn't keep up with Jaylen's fast pace, so he had to slow it down for them.

When They arrived to at the center, Jaylen decided he would just join them with going inside since he knew his older sister would be present. A man whom Jaylen recognized to be Lavar ball turned his head towards them as they entered the gym doors.

"Jaylen McQueen, top highschool player in North Carolina" Lavar spoke loudly as usual, proceeding to shake hands with Jaylen. "Well since I've got you standing in front of me, I was wondering if you'd like to join JBA, spots just opened recently and I'm looking for outstanding players only"

Jaylen didn't know what to say, he ended up telling him he would think about it and let him know once the practice was over. As Lavar finally acknowledged his two oldest sons, Jaylen looked past him and let his eyes fall on his sister who stood by on the court.

"Zandra!" he exclaimed running towards her before jumping onto her back. The girl stumbled with the added wait, soon falling on the hard floors. Jaylen landed on top of the girl, the two laughing as some others watched.

As he calmed down, Jaylens eyes wandered, soon finding Lavar who he could see was mugging his sister. "Do he not like you or something..?" he asked her, nodding his head towards the bald man.

Alexzandra sighed standing up from the ground, pulking her brother up with her. "yeah.. he's not my biggest fan I will say that, form the time I did attempt to speak he was hella rude so I would assume he doesn't like me"

"Yo I knew I knew you from somewhere" the middle ball brother walked up to the two, finally being apple to put a name and title onto the teenage boy. "I didn't know y'all was related though, that's crazy for real"

Alexzandra laughed and LiAngelos words, confusing her brother. "Y-y'all know each other?" by now, Lonzo had now also made his way over. "Yeah, I met them when I met Melo yesterday, but yeah this my little brother Jaylen"

"You might be older but that nigga is definitely taller than yo ass" Lonzo snickered, making the younger McQueen smile. While Alexzandra was 5'10, Jaylen stood 6 inches taller than her at 6'4.

"Nobody asked all of that" she spoke smartly, rolling her eyes at the three males who laughed around them. "oh- can y'all let y'all dad know I'm good on that deal, I don't like how he don't fuck with my sister"

Jaylen bluntly spoke, getting popped in his mouth by his sister. "Nigga stop cursing, you is not grown lil boy" Alexzandra told him, shaking his head. he cut his eyes at her, knowingly he turned eighteen in less than ten months.

Though, that was a conversation for another day. After holding some small talk, The two present ball brothers returned back with the parents, as well as Darren.

"Where'd you find those two idiots at?" Alexzandra asked Jaylen, squating down on the court to watch the team play. "Ran into them down at the courts, they didn't know how to get here so I showed them" he shrugged, handing her his ball.

From the corner of his eye, he could see Lavar walking up to them. Jaylen met him halfway, seeing a confused expression plastered on his face. "You Declined My Offer" he spoke as if he was offened, leaving Jaylen confused.

"Uh- yeah I'm good of that" Lavars face dropped, his head cocked back as well. "I really didn't like the way you was looking at my sister earlier and i been hearing you got some shit against her" Jaylen shrugged, shocking Lavar in the process as he said the word 'sister'.

"Sister?" He had never heard of Jaylen having siblings,  not putting two and two together when he saw the two earlier. "My older sister, Alexzandra McQueen" Lavars face went blank, his words getting caught in his throat

"Yeah, so I'm cool off that, hope you find some good players though" Jaylen walked back over to his sister, not looking back at the man. I sat down on the floor next to her.

"You talked to Justin lately?" Alexzandra asked him, taking her attention off the court. Justin was their other brother. He was older than Jaylen, but younger than Alexzandra, making him the middle child.

Justin lived with their father up north in The Bronx. Thier mother had kicked him out due to her career choice, which was basketball. Because of this, Jaylen was also scared that he would be next.

"Yeah, he said he might come by when mom not home since.. you know" Alexzandra sighed, fiddling with her shoelaces. She just wished she could be happy with her brothers in peace.

Assuming the conversation had ended, he pulled out his phone to check the media.

Jaylen looked to his right, seeing his sister typing quickly on her phone. He assumed it was their brother from what he had comments on his post. Seconds after though, a whistle was heard throughout the gym, signaling the end of practice.

The pair of siblings stood up, stretching their bodies before meeting up with the Balls on the court as suggested by LaMelo himself. "Man I didn't know you had a brother" LaMelo stated, throwing his arm around Alexzandra's shoulder.

"I actually have two" she laughed. The talked for a while until Zandra spoke up, gaining all of there attention. "Uh- my mom's  having this little get together and told me to invite some people, I was wondering if yall were interested?"

LaMelo looked among the others and shrugged. "I'm down, but Gelo but Zo and Darren are leaving tomorrow right?" he looked at them, awaiting their responses. "I'm staying down here for a minute so I'm down" LiAngelo stated , glancing at his parents by the gym doors.
