Even though I in no way want to meet this Amy, I agreed to let Tyler invite her to lunch. He claims she's some kind of Saint, but I can't help but be suspicious about her. I'm willing to meet her first and see what kind of impression she gives me. She is the reason the charges against Tyler were dropped, after all.

We decided to go back to Cafe Monday, just so I can check in on Mr. Brewer and see how things have been going for him since I left.

When he sees us take a seat out in the courtyard, he rushes over to our table.

"Sessy! It is so good to see you again!" he grins. "And...Aspen, right?"

"Yes sir," Tyler smiles.

Man, it's been a long time since I've heard someone call him by his nickname. I had almost forgotten all about it.

"I'm so sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing. If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know," Mr. Brewer frowns.

"Thank you," I reply, forcing the tears back that always come when someone mentions her.

"How is school going?" he asks.

"Um, pretty good. It's a lot harder than I expected it to be, but I'm hanging in there," I reply.

"Of course you are. You're such a brilliant girl," he smiles. "I'll have Manny make up an order of beignets for you, on the house."

"Oh, you don't have to do that," I tell him. "We don't mind paying."

"I won't take a dime for them," he says firmly. "I'm just glad I got to see you again."

"Me too," I chuckle. "And thank you."

After he leaves, Tyler smirks at me. "He and his new lady friend must be going strong. I don't think I've seen him this happy before."

"Yeah, me neither."

"Hey guys!"

I look up and furrow my brows when a cute blonde girl with striking green eyes walks over to our table. It doesn't take even a second for me to see the resemblance. She and Tyler are definitely related.

"Hey Amy!" Tyler says excitedly, standing and hugging her.

"This must be the amazing Sessy," she says, sitting next to me.

"Yep. Sessy, this is my sister, Amy," he introduces us.

"Hi Amy. Nice to meet you," I smile politely.

"You too! Gosh, I've heard so much about you, I feel like I've known you forever. Tyler can't stop talking about you," she winks at me.

I chuckle nervously.

"You know, I couldn't be happier that my little bro has someone in his life who cares about him. After hearing about what he's been through, you seem to be exactly what he needed," she says.

"He's a good person. I think everyone who has had the pleasure of meeting him will agree."

"Well, not everyone," she scoffs. "I'm sure you've heard all about Annie and Abe, right?"

"Of course she has," Tyler answers for me. "I tell Sessy everything."

"That may not be such a good idea," Amy says to him, making my heart drop.

"What do you mean? Do you...think they'll come after me?" I ask, swallowing back my nerves.

"It's possible, so you should be very careful. I can't imagine they are still sticking around New Orleans after what happened. You shouldn't worry, for now," Amy replies.

"They were here?!" I ask, looking to Tyler.

"We don't know that they were here themselves, but they at least sent someone," Tyler sighs. "Someone who broke into my car and hid hundreds of prescription pills under my seat."

"The same thing they did to me," Amy adds. "I've never done a single drug in my life, but none of that seemed to matter after I was arrested. I was treated like a criminal all because I threatened to expose their man whore of a father."

"They are going through great lengths to protect his name," I say, wondering why it would be even matter, since he's dead. "Don't they know he's not the first millionaire CEO to cheat on his wife?"

"They don't give a damn about protecting his name. They just don't want to share his fortune with anyone else, especially bastard children like us," Amy says, flipping her long, blonde hair over her shoulder. "I didn't want to be added to his will, I just wanted to know where I came from. I never knew a thing about my birth father until I was twenty one years old. My mother refused to tell me anything about him, and I guess I can see why now. Pursuing him was the worst mistake I've ever made."

"Yeah, same," Tyler scoffs.

"Obviously, neither of you were added to his will, and he's already dead. So why are they still coming after you?" I ask.

"That part, I don't know. They have more money than they'll ever need in their lifetime. It doesn't make sense for them to make our lives a living hell just because their father was a cheating dick," Amy says, just as Mr. Brewer walks up to our table with our order of beignets.

"Thank you so much," I smile, taking the basket from him.

He smiles uncomfortably, nodding to Amy. "Who is your friend?"

"This is Amy, Aspen's sister," I answer.

"Nice to meet you," Amy smiles politely.

"You too," he smiles back. "Let me know if I can get anything else."

I sigh when he walks away. That was embarrassing.

"Do you know him or something?" Amy asks.

"Yeah, Sessy worked here before she moved," Tyler answers.

I listen to the two of them go on while I silently pick at my beignet. I've known this girl for a total of ten minutes and I already don't like the vibe she gives me. I can't put my finger on it. What she is saying lines up with what Tyler has told me about. And she does look a lot like him.

There's just something about her I don't trust. She's got some kind of motive here. I'm sure getting Tyler out of jail wasn't just something she did out of the kindness of her heart. She wants something in return.

"Is that okay with you, Sessy?" Tyler asks, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"What?" I ask.

"Do you want to show Amy around the French Quarter? You're a seasoned local expert, after all."

"Um, I would love to, but I have a lot to take care of while I'm here; so I'm afraid that will have to wait," I reply, wondering why he would even bother to ask me something like that.

It kind of pisses me off.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot all about your grandmother," Amy frowns.

Something goes all over me. I want to snatch her up by her hair and stomp on her face. I forgot about your grandmother. What a heartless bitch.

"Well, I didn't forget about her," I snap, standing up.

I grab my bag and quickly walk away, needing to put some distance between us before I act crazy. My emotions are running far too high for me to deal with this.

"Sessy, wait!" Tyler calls after me, just as I've made it to the street.

I stop and turn around.

"Where are you going?" he asks.

"I told you, I have things to do. I don't have time for this," I sigh in annoyance.

"Why are you being this way?"

I can only stare at him in disgust for a few seconds. "Look, if you want to play this game with her, go ahead, but I don't have time for it."

"What game?"

"I don't know where she came from or why she showed up when she did, but it all seems a little too perfect, if you ask me. But aside from that, I really don't have time for it. I'm only here for a few days and I have a lot to do before I go back to Baltimore."

He blows out a breath. "Okay...then why don't you let me drive you?"

"Is she coming too?" I ask with a little more attitude than I intended.

"No," he answers like he's confused that I even asked.

"Then let's go."

We get into his car, but he waits a little while before starting it up, like he wants to say something.

"Sessy...I know you're going through a lot right now, but what the hell just happened? You barely talked to her and then you snapped. It's not like you at all."

"She's not who she says she is, Tyler. If you don't see that, then you're only setting yourself up for more trouble. That's all I'm going to say about it. I don't want to talk about it anymore, so please, just drop it."

"Okay," he says, finally starting up the car.

We drive along in silence for a while, but I can tell he still hasn't said everything he wants to. He probably wants Amy to be who she says she is, since he grew up without a family. She claims to have been through the same kind of things as him, making her relatable. She got him out of jail and the charges against him were dropped. He probably feels like she's on his side, like he owes her something.

But her timing is too perfect. She's saying and doing all the right things to butter him up. That's exactly what someone with a motive would do.

Maybe I'm reading her wrong and her intentions are good. Maybe what she's saying is true. I really hope that is the case. I'm not one to ignore my gut feelings though, so I won't trust her until she proves herself trustworthy.

"I'm sorry I dumped this on you when you're going through so much," he says after a while. "I shouldn't be adding more stress to your life."

I press my lips together before I say something that might come across the wrong way. I don't want him to feel like he's stressing me out, but I also don't want him to get himself into even more trouble.

"It's fine," I answer, not wanting to talk about it anymore. "I'm sorry I snapped like I did. I just want you to be careful. You never know who you can trust."

"You're right," he says, surprising the hell out of me. "That's why I wanted you to meet her. I knew you would be able to tell me if this is all too good to be true."

I look at him and raise a brow. "Really?"

"I wanted to believe she was who she said she was. I've been alone all my life and the thought of finding family out there, especially someone who has been through the same kind of things as me...I guess I let it cloud my judgement. To he honest, you're the only person in the world I trust. So if you think something is off, then maybe something is."

"I'm not saying something is off for sure, but it definitely could be. I don't want anything to happen to you. I don't know if you've noticed, but you're all the family I have left now. I need you. I can't lose you," I say taking his hand.

He smiles like my words mean everything to him. "Don't worry, you will never lose me. It's you and me against the world."
