III - Seattle

Seattle was beautiful, albeit rainy, it was gorgeous. That is exactly why I started here first. As a young girl, I was obsessed with the Twilight series, and now as an "adult" I'm very into the Fifty Shades series, so I had to come see it. I found discounted plane tickets and got a discount on a hotel because of my dad, and just couldn't pass it up.

As soon as I got to my hotel room I put on my rain jacket and rain boots and set out to see downtown. It was gorgeous. I had some of the best coffee I had ever tasted in my life, which isn't saying much because, in Thomasville, we didn't have Starbucks, we didn't even have a Dunkin Donuts. We had a home town coffee shop which was nice and the drinks were good, but nothing compared to this. I would definitely be getting a bag to take with me to my next destination, California.

My phone buzzed and I checked it expecting it to be mom and dad gushing over how they missed me already and loved the pictures I had already sent but was pleasantly surprised to find that it was Rafael, texting to ask me if I wanted to meet him for drinks around 7 o'clock. I did tell him I was only eighteen, right? Maybe I should clarify just in case. I quickly typed back that I would love to, but I was only eighteen so I would only be having virgin drinks and mocktails. It wasn't long before he replied and his text was surprising.

"No worries girlie. The place I want to meet up at is special, a buddy of mine owns it and he won't give us any trouble if you have a few drinks, as long as you can hold it. ;)"

Was he suggesting I couldn't hold my alcohol? Game on, buddy!

Explored the town for a little while longer before I checked my phone and realized it was 6:55. Shit! I was going to be late! That wouldn't be a good impression. I quickly pulled up the address he sent me and found it was only a short walk from where I was at currently. So I set off in that direction and when I located the bar, it was 6:59, perfect!

Walking in I immediately felt out of place. There was a power that radiated through the entire place. Every man there seemed to be made of only muscle and nothing else. I looked around quickly for Rafael when I heard him, "Hey there! Glad you found it!" He said cheerily as he pulled me in for a hug. Honestly, I could just stay in his arms like this all day, but I reluctantly pulled away before he thought I was weird. Who knows, maybe I am. Who feels this way about a stranger? I can't even begin to comprehend or explain the way I'm feeling about a total stranger, it just doesn't make any sense.

Rafael placed his hand on the small of my back and lead me to the bar. "Deirdra, this is my buddy, pro bartender and the owner of The Drunken Wolf, Sealey Thompson. Seal, this is my new friend Deirdra, we met at the airport and let me be the first to say, this girl deserves a drink." I was absolutely gobsmacked when I looked at him. He was gorgeous. He had nothing on Rafael, but man was he easy on the eyes. Tanned skin that looked as though it had never been marred by imperfection or blemishes, the most beautiful golden eyes I had ever seen, light brown hair and the cutest set of dimples when he smiled.

"Sealey, but you can call me Seal. All of my friends do and if Raf here says you're a friend, then you're a friend to me too. So tell me, what's your poison?" I had no idea, honestly. The only alcohol I had ever had was cheap and shitty and in poorly made cocktails.

"I'm not sure, honestly. I know I'm not really a fan of beer but I do kind of like whiskey. I also like mixed drinks if they're made well." I stated. He seemed to think it over for a second before telling me he knew just what I absolutely had to try, and went off to make it. As soon as I saw him grab a bottle of wine from behind the counter, I knew it was going to be good. I loved wine. Taylor had always managed to find the best wine for me and brought it to me with the most beautiful tulips on the regular.

Suddenly a pang of sadness washed over me and I was once again fighting back tears. I didn't know how long it was going to take me to get over this, to get past the pain, but now my plan had changed from having a few drinks with Rafael to drinking until it didn't hurt anymore, and that was more than fine with me.

Seal came back a few minutes later with a purple colored drink in a beautiful wine glass that had the name of the bar on it with a wolf howling into the moon. "This is called the Flushed Cheeks Sangria, it has Malibu, Razzmatazz, and Moscato Di'asti. Give it a taste and let me know what you think!" He seemed excited for me to try it, which made me excited as well. And that first sip was heaven. I had never had sangria before, but if it all tasted like this, I think I had a new favorite drink. I took another long sip before I set it down and looked at him nodding my head in approval.

"Sealey, this is amazing. I've never had sangria before but I am in love with this! Thank you!" Rafael chuckled from beside me, seemingly finding my amazement with good drinks amusing.

"Rafael, are you laughing at me?" I said sweetly. "No girlie, not at all. Also, you can call me Raf. Rafael is a mouthful." Raf. I had heard Sealey call him Raf earlier too. I nodded my head in acknowledgment and picked my drink back up and took a few more long sips. Sealey started chuckling behind the bar and I gave him a look as if to say "and what are YOU laughing at?" But Raf asked the question for me. "Nothin' bud, just wondering if that's the only mouthful you don't want her to have." He laughed heartily at his joke and slung the rag over his shoulder before walking off to talk to someone else further down the bar.

When I glanced at Raf his face was beet red, making me wonder if something had embarrassed him. "Raf? You okay?" He swiped his hand down his face as if that was going to rub away the furious blush on his cheeks and smiled my way, "Yeah girl, I'm good. Seal can just be a little inappropriate at times." He chuckled at the end which made me wish I was in on the joke, but whatever it was obviously flew straight over my head.

Before I knew it my drink was gone and Raf was summoning Sealey over to get us another round. As I reached in my purse to grab my card to start a tab, Rafael grabbed my hand and said, "don't worry about that. Your drinks are on me tonight." I smiled and thanked him, and an absurd thought popped into my head.

That I hoped drinks wouldn't be the only thing on him tonight.

I flushed at the thought and tried to hide my face before he noticed, but someone else did. "And that right their shorty is why we call it the Flushed Cheeks Sangria. All that alcohol gives pretty girls like you, red flushed cheeks." Sealey seemed proud of himself; if only he knew the real reason behind my red-tinged face.

Raf ordered me a "Sex on the Beach" which apparently was fruity and strong, and sounded extremely appealing. Strong is what I want, and sex on the beach sounded like fun as well. I also understood now what Rafael meant when he said Sealey can be inappropriate at times, because I definitely did not miss the joke this time. "Sex on the beach, huh Raf? Won't be getting any of that around here, not with this rain anyways." He said as he winked my way, and once again Rafael's face flushed red and I couldn't help the giggle that escaped my lips at his expression. He seemed so innocent and sweet, not like the hard biker boy he seemed to want to portray.

As Seal walked away to start on our drinks, Rafael asked if I wanted to go out for a smoke, which I happily accepted. I found that I liked the buzz I got from the nicotine and decided that it may not be a terrible habit to have.

I was definitely not expecting it to be so chilly out in the middle of July, but when the sun went down, so did the temperature. I suppressed a shiver and made my way over to where Raf was standing on the side of the building. There was a nice little patio area set up with patio furniture scattered about. There were umbrellas in the middle of all of the tables and the most beautiful vintage string lights hanging from one umbrella to the next, giving the area a soft serene glow.

As I sat down next to Rafael, I was falling in love with Seattle, it's beauty, and The Drunken Wolf. I was so happy I could die right here and not have a single care in the world.

If only I had known then, what was going to happen as the night progressed.
