Mia's POV

I leaned my head back with my eyes closed while laying on the soft, warm sand. Our luggage had already been placed in the car and I was enjoying the last few minutes of paradise before we had to go back home.

To be honest our time here flew by probably because I was enjoying Alex's warm presence and touch. I wanted to stay longer but I could tell Alex was getting stressed out over the amount of work that awaited him when we got back. The longer we were here, the larger the pile grew.

"Mia?"

"Coming" I said as I stood up unenthusiastically and shook the sand off of me.

He was leaning against the car looking absolutely gorgeous as always. I walked up to his open arms and he kissed my forehead after he said, "I promise you we can come back soon alright? This is our house after all"

I nodded with a small smile because I appreciated his words. The ride back consisted of sleeping on my end for the most part because I had been very tired lately. Alex on the other hand was working on his laptop for most of the flight which I didn't mind because I know he had been out for a long time.

When we finally got to our house I walked in feeling a little strange. I just couldn't wrap my head around the fact that this was where I would live now. Especially because this place just looked so fancy and sleek. It was like it wasn't even lived in. Everything was in its place and dust could not be seen anywhere.

Alex kissed my cheek as I looked around and hugged me from behind, "welcome to your new home, love."

"Thank you babe," I said while smiling and looking around.

Alex had already shown me around the house before but that didn't stop him from giving me another tour since he said he had made some changes. First he showed me the kitchen and the dining room then the living room which had a huge TV. After that we quickly glanced at the two guest bedrooms on the same floor. We then went upstairs to look at our bedroom which was way too big for two people. He had a second living room here but this one only contained books everywhere, it was more of a small library. After that he opened a door that led to his office and photo studio. I couldn't believe he had that in here since I hadn't seen it before. He showed me the balcony that looked over the backyard and I was amazed at the garden's beauty. The last room on the floor was a surprise that he had for me.

"Here you go," he said as he gave me a key.

"Why is it locked?"

"Because it's your room, your safe space."

I smiled at him and unlocked the door then stepped inside. My mouth fell open. The room was covered with painting materials and had the most beautiful view. It was literally an artist's dream come true. I ran up to hug him and he  chuckled.

I knew there was a basement which basically included a safe room and small entertainment room which to me appeared more like a man cave but I wasn't too interested in exploring the rest of the house because I wanted to begin painting.

He kissed my cheek and smiled widely at me, "I'm glad you like it"

"I can't wait to paint!"

"I see, your fingers are literally twitching," he laughed.

"I know I am very excited," I said as a grabbed a brush.

"Well let me not keep you from it, I do have to head to the office anyways, I'll be back before bedtime."

"Okay babe, I love you!"

He kissed me sweetly then left the room leaving me to enclose myself in my bubble.

Alex's POV

I took off my unbuttoned my blazer as I sat down on my chair and began to read through the documents and take care of the business that accumulated throughout the time I was gone. My life had unexpectedly taken a different turn. I never even imagined the possibility of a honeymoon because I did not think I would actually marry her. Now I have the most amazing woman in my home.

I tried to focus my attention on my work because I was really behind but I couldn't shake off the smile on my lips when I thought of Mia.

She might have been the one to cause my dad to leave us but I honestly believed she wasn't that person anymore. She was genuine, kind and loving. I don't know what made her change but I was glad. Maybe I was wrong and it was never even her, just someone that looks similar and has her same name? I don't know but none of that will matter anymore. I love Mia and she is a good hearted person and that is all that matters to me now.

There was another issue that I needed to take care of. That call Mia answered from my ex. I have no idea why my ex would pretend to still be dating me but I would not tolerate her lying to Mia like that.

I asked her to come by my office tomorrow so we could talk things out and I could make it clear that Mia is my wife now and I will not allow anyone to upset her.

I drank my coffee slowly as I continued to work and felt a little sad that Mia no longer works here since she really made the best coffee ever. I looked at my phone to see if she'd texted but she hadn't probably just because she's so absorbed with her paintings. She has been a little behind with her paintings now since her art has high demand, her publicist is doing an amazing job.

Mia's POV

I was getting ready for bed when I heard Alex's voice saying, "I'm home honey."

I walked downstairs to meet him and kissed him lovingly, "welcome home."

He smiled widely at me and hugged me tight as he said, "you look ready for bed hmm?"

I nodded, "I am, why don't you come join me?"

He laughed at my poor attempt at seduction but played my game anyways.

The next morning when I woke up I decided I would surprise him at work and bring him lunch that I cooked. I spent all morning preparing a delicious home cooked meal and getting ready.

I was so excited to see my old coworkers there even if they hadn't really been the greatest people while I worked here.

Since Alex didn't have a secretary right now I couldn't really announce myself so I knocked and when I heard no reply I slowly walked in only to have my heart break break into tiny pieces.

Alex's POV

"Look Mia, I know we were a thing before but that is over, I am a happily married man now and I need you to stop telling my wife that I am after you when that is completely false," I said showing her my ring.

"Alex I know you're married now but look... we were great when we were together and just because you're married doesn't mean we can't have fun still..." she tried to purr seductively but I just felt nothing for her.

"No Mia, I'm being really clear with you, I want no one else but my wife so please stay away. I don't want to end things badly with you but if you don't stay away I will do whatever it takes to keep my marriage safe" I said firmly while putting my hands in my pocket and towering over her.

A soft knock caught my attention but before I could reply Mia jumped on me wrapping her legs around me and her arms around my neck. Her passionate kiss took me by completely surprise momentarily making me freeze with my arms around her. I looked towards the door and saw my wife's heartbroken face looking at the scene unfolding before her. I knew how bad this must look but somehow my hands were still frozen. It was probably only a second but it felt like an eternity as I watched Mia's eyes glisten with unshed tears and her lovely cheeks turn slightly pink probably with anger and pain.

I pushed my ex off of me and looked at my wife trying to explain what happened, "it's not what it looks like Mia."

My ex responded, "Alex just tell her the truth."

"What truth???"

My ex looked at Mia and said, "look honey... he's married to you but me and him have always had a bond and well we just couldn't help it... being together one more time..."

"No no no! That is not true! Baby she's lying to you" I said desperately as I watched my wife's eyes become colder and more distant.

My ex wrapped her arm around my waist and said, "babe just tell her the truth...it's better if you do.."

I pushed her away from me without hurting her only because I am a gentleman and said, "stop lying Mia! Me and you are nothing!"

I walked over to my wife but she took two steps back and said, "don't you dare touch me!"

"Baby..."

She dropped a box she was holding in her hands and walked away quickly. The box opened a little and I could tell it was food, she probably wanted to surprise me for lunch but she was the one that had the surprise.

I turned to look at my ex and said, "get out of my office and out of my life. If I ever see you near me again I won't hesitate to have my security remove you from my surroundings even if it embarrasses you" I said through clenched teeth and a murderous glare which successfully scared her. Her face drained of color and she grabbed her purse then hurried away.

I basically ran outside trying to catch up to Mia before she left and I barely saw her as the elevator doors closed so I ran down the stairs hoping to meet her downstairs. I was seriously out of breath by the time I had gone down all 20 flights of steps. I had managed to reach the parking level only thirty seconds after her. I ran up to the car and managed to stick my hand out to stop her from closing the car door.

"Mia"

"Let me go please, I can't be around you right now" she said in a broken voice.

I kneeled down on the floor and looked up at her while she sat on the driver's seat.

"No Mia, you have to believe me, she's lying to you and you're letting her get away with it, this is what she wants."

Something I said must have upset her more because she threw me a murderous glare which I had never seen before as she said, "no! You're not turning this back on me. You and her were kissing. I am not letting her get away with anything. I know what I saw. Even if she was lying, I saw you kiss her."

"No Mia I wasn't kissing her back, it just took me a second to realize what was going on I was shocked," I tried to reason with her but it was doing no good.

"Get out of my way please." She said in a surprisingly polite tone.

"Mia please...I love you only you, that is why I married you and no one else."

She put on her seatbelt and turned the car on while I was still there looking at her.

"Alex get out please I'm really not trying to run you over."

I didn't think she would do that but I decided not to risk it when I saw her go for the accelerator with her foot.
I stood up defeated and watched her close the door then speed away.

Mia's POV

I was surprised at how under control my voice had been when I spoke to him. I was so impressed by it because while I spoke to him I felt like I couldn't breathe. The world was crashing down on me and I just could not catch my breath. It felt like I had a big hole in my chest which left me feeling empty.

The image of them two kissing kept replying in my head and it was like it was forever burned to my eyelids. A tear escaped my eye as I drove away and headed to my safe space.
