Christopher's pov

" I will sue you."

"Great idea, Mr Caron."

"You did not stick to your end of the deal."

"What a pity?"

"Do you think this is funny?"

"Yes"

"My company is in loss, and you find it funny. If you had done your work as my marketing analyst. I would not go into loss."

"Okay that's it".

I glared at Mr Caron causing him to flinch perks of being around my dad had given me the talent of being intimidating. One sharp look and people would cower in fear.

"You should watch your mouth. One wrong word and I will see you behind bars" I warned him.

"What would you sue me for?"

"Do you want me to answer that for you?"

Mr Caron fidgeted with the end of his expensive suit, his ears turned red. He avoided eye contact. A clear indication that he was hiding something.

I will tell you this now and again. People who cannot manage to lie, don't do it. You will get caught. You need to be smart and have a common sense to lie, this idiot in front of me didn't have both.

"Both of us know, why the deal was cancelled. Don't Make me say it." I spat in a cold tone.

"I didn't do anything, I'm following your marketing strategy and its not yielding me profit. So I have a right to sue you".

"Rights and responsibilities don't sound good in your mouth." I mocked him.

"We signed a 120 days deal. We analyse the
working of your company, then come up with marketing strategies and then put the best plans into action, so you could get the most profit out of it." I summarised the deal for his benefit.

"Would have been good, if your plans  worked."he sneered.

"Mr Caron, I appreciate professional behavior and you not throwing tantrums like a child." I warned him. Who does he think he is?Coming to my company and insulting it. My dad had put so much of his life into bring the company to this stage. I will not have an airhead with screws
loose in his head, tarnish the name in the market.

"Smith Marketing's is the one of the best
marketing firms in the market. People line up to get our services. The only reason we worked for you is because my dad thought of you as his friend. Don't make me talk, because you won't like it."

"My product launch is not successful, there
is a huge stock of inventory. I can't fire the employees without paying them. You promised to get me profit, now stick to your end of the deal and get me profits" he yelled.

Wait

Did he just

Yell at me.

My assistant Mike, looked up sharply, no
one and I repeat no one had the guts to even look me in the eye. And this idiot goes around yelling at my face.

See what happens now.

"My company wanted things to be transparent. You promised not to withhold any relevant information related to the product".I baited him into admitting.

"I didn't hide anything" he told me honestly.
I scoffed, he was as honest as the wolf who tricked red Riding Hood. The business world is scary, its not all smiles and giggles. People can do anything for money. It is not a place for the light hearted.

"Mr Caron you have been faking your
financial statements for the past two years. It is not long before your company gets closed down. I prefer not to put the reputation of my company at stake for your foolishness".

"So that's why you cancelled the deal" Mr Caron mused to himself. Ohh finally the idiot understood. And idiot of the century award goes to him.

"Yes, we had a clause in the contract. If there is any illegal activity going on in your company, we have the complete right to back out and even make you pay for wasting our time and resources". I informed him.

"You see Me Caron, we are doing you a favour by not claiming money from your company. Remember that before you blame my team". I warned him. That should put him back in his place.Great head tried to double cross us.

All mask of professionalism he had was dropping, he glared at me. As though wishing he could shoot fire out of his eyes and burn me. I merely raised an eyebrow in question. When my Dad's glare couldn't intimidate me, his glare looked funny.

My Dad Luke Smith, was my hero. Since I was a kid I looked up to him. I wished and hoped to be like him. If I managed to be half the man he was, my whole life it would be an accomplishment. Though people cannot be perfect, he was perfection in form.

People usually thought of himas a cold and arrogant businessman, but for his family he was like a soft plush toy. My mom just had to pout and show her wide eyes brimming with tears, he would lay down the world at her feet.

My mother Maria Smith was a whole new brand of crazy. She was a very popular fashion designer, her determination made my father abandon his player ways and become the billionaire he is today.

My dad tells me she was the reason he started his company. He wanted to become a better man for her.

Dad tells me my mom deserved the world, so he became the man who could give her the world. I kept a cool expression, two seconds away from throwing Mr Caron out of my office. He was like a pesky fly, who kept bussing and irritating me.

"You listen here Christopher Smith, sitting in that chair, looking all high and mighty. You are nothing, compared to me. You better listen to me and get me my profits or I'll destroy your whole family" ohh now the wolf shows it's colors, this was a face he had hidden in that expensive suit. See this is what I told you about the business world, no one is real.

"You cannot harm a hair on my head, let alone think of going towards my family. " I shot back, my voice as cold as ice.

"It is a matter of time, before your shareholders recognise your fraud financial statements, if you manage to pay off all your debts and somehow recover your losses, the reputation of your company will have already fallen. So it's best you focus on finding something other than staying on the streets, you will land in jail, there you will have neither means nor money to destroy me or my family." I told him. He should worry about doing something useful, rather than making plans to ruin others. Like get a better hobby for yourself.

"Mike, escort Mr Caron out of the building, if he is not out in 5 minutes. You are fired. And I want reports from the finance department on my desk." I instructed my assistant not bothering to look at the idiot who was fuming.

There was only one place that could give me peace of mind now, that's where I'm headed.

************

"Mom" I called out, dropping my coat on the table, as I arranged my shoes in the shoe rack. Mom and I were an inseparable pair since I remember. We have played pranks on each other, shared so many things. As far I was concerned there was not another woman in my life other than her.

"In the kitchen sweetie"I heard her holler.

As I reached the kitchen I saw my mom stirring something in a bowl, wildly waving a whisk around, talking animatedly as Dad looked at her fondly. This was something that made me smile. Thirty years of being married and he still had eyes for her.

"Your dad's making a joke". Mom told me, her eyes alight with amusement."He wants to learn cooking"she said looking at him fondly.

"Dad, you know the rules. No going into the kitchen unless you want something bad to happen". I said with my mom on this one.

Dad huffed, "I ruin pasta once, you kids mock me for a lifetime."

"Darling you made pasta, without boiling it. What you made was not called pasta" Mom teased him.

"Mind setting the table for us" mom told me. It was a rule in our house, when she tells you to do something you do it. No questions no arguments. I set the table for three, since my brother was on a vacation. My elder brother Alec was my best friend.

"Yeah" I yelled just as mom entered holding a casserole. There was only sounds of forks and knives as we dug in.

"Chris tommorrow we are going to make another deal with Forever Gems" dad informed me. Forever Gems was a jewelry making company which had gained quite the popularity among women. The designs were different, my dad often worked with them.

Best thing about that company was it's founder Gwen Carter. She was what people dreamed to be. My dad had a particular admiration towards the girl, she reminded him too much of himself. He was proud of how the girl survived in the market, strong enough to become a billionaire.

I was sometimes jealous of the admiration my dad had when he spoke of her. Let's see how much of secrets will this deal with Gwen Carter unfold.
