45. Girls' time

"Good morning, Mr. Malhotra," Santosh greeted, entering Siddharth's cabin.

"Good morning," Siddharth responded, continuing to type on his laptop.

"My sincere apologies for this short notice. Please accept my resignation," Santosh spoke, placing the envelope on his desk.

"I assume you have gone through the offer letter terms & conditions," Siddharth reminded in a flat tone, going through his resignation.

"Yes, Mr. Malhotra. I shall pay back my two-month salary. Please relieve me immediately," Santosh requested, choosing his option.

"I will get back to you by tomorrow, Mr. Kiran," Siddharth dismissed Santosh and continued his work.

--

"Not this," Avni rejected as Caro tried on a green saree.

"This is so light and simple," Caro exclaimed in surprise, trying on another silk saree from the store.

"Haha! It's not easy to look sexy," Avni chuckled at Caro's state. She tried hard to carry the pallu while the pleats were everywhere.

"Take slow and small steps," Avni guided, adjusting her saree.

"Truth be said, I never felt sexy while I'm all covered," Caro admitted in awe of her reflection in a full-length mirror.

"Saree accentuates the right features, and it looks best on any body type," Avni responded in a haze, focusing on another saree on display doll at a distance.

"I think I like this. What say?" Caro snapped, bringing Avni out of her thoughts.

"You look great," Avni expressed her opinion. The peach-colored netted saree suited her skin tone and looked good on her.

"And you'll look even better in that white saree," Caro giggled, pointing to the saree that grabbed Avni's attention.

"You think so?" Avni doubted, thinking all over again.

"Sid will love it. Go ahead," Caro encouraged. "Please get me that saree," She ordered the saleswoman nearby.

"Are you sure, Ma'am? That's the most expensive designer saree in the entire store. It's embroidered with diamonds and rubies. Yet, the saree is light as feather and smooth as silk," She explained.

Caro turned to Avni, teasing her. "What do you think, cupcake? There obviously is nothing Sid can't buy," She winked.

"Of course," Avni giggled, gesturing to the saleswoman to get the saree.

"Sid would love this treat," Caro enthusiastically shrieked as Avni tried on the white saree.

"Hey, baby girl," Siddharth greeted as Avni answered the call. "How's your shopping going?"

"I am trying my best to make a small dent in your pocket," Avni giggled, purchasing the saree.

"You wish," Siddharth laughed.

"Bye, hubby. Let's catch up for dinner," Avni shouted as Caro snatched her phone.

"Let me have your wife for today, Sid," Caro spoke into the phone and cut the call.

"Girls," Siddharth rolled his eyes at their enthusiasm for shopping and continued with his work.

"May I come in, Mr. Malhotra?" Scarlett knocked on the door.

"Here's a courier for you. This came in a few days ago," Scarlett explained, placing it on his desk. "I have scheduled all your meetings this week," She continued, desperately trying to catch his attention.

"Okay. You may leave," He dismissed her.

"Damn it!" Scarlett hissed in pain as she hit her foot to the ground in frustration. She woke up early before sunrise and spent an extra hour getting ready. She wore an expensive designer one-piece just so he would notice.

It's been two months since Siddharth worked from the Paris office. She spent all her savings in a beauty parlor and tried many looks. Every man in the office had gone crazy for her. Alas! Nothing could attract his attention. There wasn't a single day he glanced for an extra second and took a slight advantage. What she wouldn't give to grab his attention for a few minutes!

"What a bitch!" Scarlett threw a vase to the ground, recalling Avni's moans over the phone. She laughed, scrunching Avni's reports, and muttered, "You'll leave this office and Siddharth very soon. I'll make sure of it."

"I wanted to remind you about delivering Mr. Malhotra's courier," Santosh spoke, walking into Scarlett's cabin.

"Of course. Is that all?" She asked, suspecting his interest in something so small.

"I presented the contract documents to Mr. Mehra. We can anticipate a positive response within a day," Santosh narrated his current work status.

"Good progress, Mr. Kiran. I'll let you know if any new project comes up," She dismissed Santosh.

--

"Not this," Caro stopped Avni from entering a restaurant.

"But they're all the same," Avni doubted, stepping back and looking around.

"The one in that corner was our usual during internships," Caro pointed towards another restaurant.

"Isn't this the one where I met all of you guys?" Avni recalled, after close observation.

"Yup! Very smart, cupcake!" Caro agreed. "Interested in the story behind it?"

"More than excited," Avni enthusiastically grabbed a seat and focused on Caro.

"Veg pancakes and honey, please," Caro dictated the order and turned to Avni.

"Sid loves the vegetarian pancakes here. The chef here is his favorite," Caro started. "Miranda was on leave the day we visited this restaurant. That's the reason for not ordering pancakes that day," She clarified the doubt in Avni's mind.

"As much as dairy milk?" Avni's eyes became round at the surprising revelation. She found another way of pacifying her dear husband if at all he becomes angry. The probability of him getting angry is almost zero these days. Still, it's better to be prepared with an action plan.

"More than dairy milk but less than your handmade carrot halwa," Caro disclosed.

"Carrot halwa?" Avni spit the water in her mouth in shock.

"Yes," Caro confirmed, massaging her throat. "I had him on a video call while you guys were in Bangalore. The bowl was as clean as a washed one after he finished. All the time we spoke, he made low moans in awe of the dish," She laughed, recalling.

"That's amazing news," Avni gave a quick peck on Caro's cheek for the valuable information.

"I don't wanna die in your hubby's hands!" Caro exclaimed dramatically while Avni pulled her into a hug.

"It's just a peck and a hug," Avni shrugged.

"Don't tell me you didn't notice the constant eye fight between Mike and Sid," Caro giggled, recalling their cat fight. "I'm pretty sure you guys are all over each other," She added.

"What makes you think so?" Avni frowned. All over each other is a different story. They barely made out properly except for the kitchen session. Every time they get closer, something or the other interrupts, or he stops in the middle.

"Where are you lost?" Avni returned back from her thoughts, hearing Caro's voice.

"Yummy," Avni moaned upon taking the first bite of the pancake. She hated everything about honey - its smell, over sweetness. But it tasted so right with the blueberry pancakes.

"Told you!" Caro smiled at Avni's various reactions and clicked several pictures without her knowledge. "Your wifey!" She forwarded all the pics to Siddharth.

"This is Sid's wife," Caro introduced Avni to Miranda, the restaurant's chef, and owner.

"Sid's wife?" Miranda gasped, taking in the new piece of information. "You look lovely, dear," She complimented, and they chatted for a while.

"Let's get matching accessories for the sarees," Caro reminded, dragging Avni along.

"You're going with me next time, baby girl," Avni smiled, reading Siddharth's text.

"Sure. Let's all come here again," She replied.

"Nah! Only you and me," She frowned upon his instant response.

"Why?"

"I wanna trace the path of those honey drops with my lips," Siddharth smirked, sending his reply. She looked incredibly sexy with honey smeared all over her chin.,

"I am waiting," He smiled, rereading her reply for the hundredth time in the past few minutes.

"This is my favorite bakery," Caro pointed to one of the shops beside them. She turned to the side upon not getting a response.

"Avni...." Caro screamed, rushing towards her. She noticed a speeding car about to hit Avni.

"Are you alright?" Caro panicked, pulling her away in time. She looked all over her skin, checking for any injuries.

"Say something, cupcake," Caro shook Avni, trying to get her out of shock. She cleaned the small cut on her hand and bandaged it.

"Thank you," Avni broke down into tears and hugged Caro. She calmed down after having some water.

"Let me call Sid," Caro spoke, but Avni quickly stopped her. "It's just an accident. Let's not bother him," She suggested. Siddharth would be very tensed and anxious if he heard of it.

"But," Caro tried and stopped after noticing Avni's puppy eyes. They continued shopping after Avni consistently pestered Caro, ensuring she was alright.

"Woah! You got a lot of stuff," Avni exclaimed, noticing the trunk filled with bags.

"Wanna surprise Brett," Caro winked, throwing the keys to Avni.

--

"Hey, man!" Brett greeted fist bumping Siddharth.

"Such a savior! Pitch in ideas, man! My secretary resigned," Siddharth twisted his mouth, already in denial of this situation and discussion. But he was helpless. Brett is the company's legal advisor, and there is no other go-to person. Moreover, the guy is quite intelligent to figure out something is fishy.

Siddharth always had his ways of retaining an employee in the past. There are many ways of retaining an employee - Offering a hike or promotion, Switching teams, granting a bonus, etc. If nothing works and the reason is selfish, he learned all the loopholes in the agreement by heart over the years from their legal committee.

But Santosh seemed determined to resign. He wouldn't bend for a hike. A switch in the team could work, but he needed a more substantial offer to back it up. He can neither let Santosh resign nor retain him by taking extreme steps. Either could hurt Avni in indirect ways.

Siddharth understands things have changed now, and Avni is crystal clear about limiting her relationship with Santosh to just friendship. Let's not go there... His heart fills with enormous joy that he wholly owns his girl's heart, and he wouldn't think more.

Coming back, Santosh either resigns or stays. If he quits, Avni might blame herself for ruining his career. A big No! He wouldn't want her to have those regrets. If he stays, judging by Santosh's acts these days, he might get super uncomfortable around Avni.

"Forget I asked, man," Siddharth smirked before Brett could speak. And Brett definitely knew that smirk! He always gets what he wants.

"One black coffee and a few chocolate cookies to go with," Brett ordered, ringing the peon.

"Such a weirdo!" Siddharth exclaimed, teasing Brett.

"You eat chocolates, bro!" Brett rolled his eyes as Siddharth continued to type on his laptop.

"We can go to the mall and have fun after you're done. The guys will be there anytime soon," Brett reminded, sensing Siddharth engrossed in work and mostly noticing tons of files on his couch.

"Yeah, Man! Let's start in ten," Siddharth agreed, wrapping up his work. He believed in spending time with family and friends no matter how demanding the job got. At the end of the day, people are more valuable than paper notes. That's one lesson he learned from his younger brother, who lives his life to the fullest.

--

"You never went bowling before?" Noah gasped in shock while Mike smirked with a glint in his eyes. "I'm definitely.." Mike started.

"Sadly, you don't get the chance 'cause I'm here for my wife," Siddharth completed entering the bowling section just then.

"I missed you, baby," Brett kissed Caro on the lips.

"Get a room, guys," Avni coughed, walking towards Mike and Siddharth, who, like always, got into a catfight.

"You got the point, but this is PDA, girl," Noah laughed, turning to Avni, and added, "We'll be saying it to you guys soon, newly wedded couple!"

Avni could only blush and hide behind Siddharth. Will they be such a romantic couple? Will he kiss her in public? Not that she has a problem!

Sparks fly off whenever he touches her, but there is also a beautiful comfort that is so perfect. But they still have a long way to go! Siddharth didn't even proceed the other time when she put it in words. Does he even like her that way? He sure loves her but is he attracted to her? How can any man say no when his wife demands intimacy?

"Where are you lost, baby girl?" Siddharth whispered into her ear, enjoying watching the game. It gave her goosebumps, and her heart races with his proximity, but does it have the same effect on him?

"Uh-huh! Let's do it," Avni managed a nervous smile which earned a suspicious look from Siddharth, but he let it slide. Lucky for her that he didn't question! All Avni could concentrate on during their turn was how she could feel his perfectly toned abs against her back and his hand on her waist.

"Let's get some Pizza and beer!" Mike shrieked after winning that game.

"Don't get over-excited! I will beat you the next time," Brett warned, and Noah nodded in agreement.

"Alright, guys! Let's enjoy," Caro yelled, disciplining them. "Of course, without beer," She added, noticing Siddharth's glare.

Avni smiled, observing Caro's actions for a while. She loved how Caro brought positive energy and a good vibe to the group. She brings the fun element into the group and understands everyone so well.

In a typical situation, she may have been jealous of her strong bond with Siddharth, but she somehow adores their friendship. It's surprising how she feels so comfortable and at ease with all of these guys in less time.

"You have amazing friends," Avni smiled, turning to Siddharth. "And thank you for being all mine," She added, giving him a peck on the cheek.

--

"Woah!" Avni woke up in quite a shock feeling Siddharth next to her. It's been a week, and she barely saw Siddharth. He is super busy with meetings and works during her office hours.

He wakes up early in the morning and leaves for the office before she wakes up. He also comes home late at night and carries her to the bed from the couch.

She tried to be awake numerous nights until he came but failed terribly. But she surely remembers the peck he gave on her forehead every night.

"I love you, husband," Avni smiled, watching her husband sleeping peacefully like a baby. She admired every inch of his handsome face, running her fingers across his silky hair.

"Why are you home?" Avni asked, noticing him slowly open his eyes.

"Where else am I supposed to be?" He shrugged, taken aback by her reaction.

"With your mistress, you keep ditching me for," Avni chided.

"What the hell! When did I get one?" Siddharth shook his head in confusion. trying to decipher her words.

"In the past week? You barely saw my face," Avni pouted, expressing her displeasure.

"That's not true. I admired my beautiful wife every day, first in the morning and last at night," Siddharth declared as a matter of fact.

"You got to do better than that to pacify me, hubby," Avni put on a fake serious expression, but she had already melted. Her husband is the sweetest even when he doesn't try. Add the sexiest too! Sweet and Sexy! A combination she totally fell for.

"Maybe this invitation card might do a good job," Siddharth handed her an envelope and waited for the gorgeous glint in her eyes.

"Venice? Henry's retirement party? We're going?" Avni squealed in excitement.

"Get ready. We're going tonight," Siddharth declared.
