Chapter 42 | A Terrible Feeling

A dinging sound caught the Ragdoll Hybrid's attention as he was sitting at his desk in the Hybrid Unit. Eunwoo picked up his phone and frowned when he saw your text. 'Track my phone.' What did you mean by that? He sighed.

There was a reason Sungjae and Eunwoo were friends although they were on the opposite sides of the spectrum. Sungjae was spontaneous while Eunwoo was logical. Sungjae did things on a whim while Eunwoo weighed all possible outcomes before acting. The reason why these completely different people were friends was because of you. You were the person who balanced out your friendship. You were in the middle. Sometimes you were highly logical while sometimes you just followed your heart without much thinking. While Sungjae was the friend who decided on the fun activity, you were the one who made sure that all three of you had fun, and Eunwoo was the one who kept your group of friends from doing anything too crazy or illegal. Of course, he failed in that aspect as you all grew older; with Sungjae becoming a hacker who he'd accidentally sent to jail and you being a vigilante who had gone to prison twice for beating a person up. But there was no doubt that if Eunwoo wasn't there, you and Sungjae would have a longer rap sheet.

He called the phone company relaying the information and the text that he had received from you stating that he had permission to track your phone. He had to wait a couple of minutes before he was able to start tracking your phone.

But your mysterious text wasn't the only thing that was occupying his mind. Two weeks ago, he had a phone call from Sungjae. It was a strange phone call, to say the least.

2 weeks prior

Eunwoo was at home with his mates. Sighing in content as he cuddled up to his mates after a well-needed rest. His personal phone rang causing him to slightly groan at the interruption.

"Can you not take the phone?" MJ pouted as Eunwoo pried himself out of the older Hybrid's embrace.

"I can't, it might be Y/N-ie," Eunwoo said as he walked over to the table where his phone was resting.

His eyes grew double their usual size when he saw that it was Sungjae that was calling him. Eunwoo quickly picked up the phone.

After Eunwoo had accidentally sent Sungjae to prison, the Human never initiated their conversations. Of course, Eunwoo understood why Sungjae didn't go out of his way to give Eunwoo a call. Sungjae would have felt severely betrayed by the Hybrid. But in all honesty, Eunwoo really hadn't meant to arrest Sungjae.

When Sungjae had hacked into one of the biggest companies in Korea, Eunwoo knew that his friend was the culprit. Sungjae always left a little signature to almost mark that he was the one to have done the hacking.

The signature that was all too familiar with Eunwoo: the name Yook-Jal-Tto. It was the nickname Y/N gave to Sungjae, it roughly meant: Yook Sungjae the handsome weirdo. For some reason, Sungjae really liked the nickname and it stuck ever since.

Being new to the police force, Eunwoo had no choice but to get wrapped up in the case. Since he knew who it was, Eunwoo thought that if he planned things right, he would be able to have a good standing in the police force and keep his friend safe. So, Eunwoo planned a raid, he planned it for a time that he knew Sungjae was out of town and wasn't going to be in his warehouse that he used to use as his base. Unluckily, Sungjae wasn't out of town and was actually at the warehouse at the exact moment the raid happened and as a result, the hacker was arrested.

"Sungjae?" Eunwoo spoke into the phone. Eunwoo could hear an altercation in the background. Sounds of people fighting and yelling. It seemed as if Sungjae purposefully called Eunwoo so the detective paid very close attention to the altercation. Trying to pick up on voices and words.

"Us! Promise!" Eunwoo could hear Sungjae's voice before the line went dead.

Present Time

Us.

Promise.

The two words that Eunwoo heard Sungjae speak. He didn't understand what they meant. Eunwoo tried very hard to decipher what Sungjae meant. Although Sungjae was very spontaneous, he was smart. The words were meant for Eunwoo and they had a meaning. It was just that Eunwoo hadn't been able to figure it out yet. It was important, Eunwoo was certain of it.

He tried calling Sungjae again after that but was unsuccessful. He tried to find out more about that day but Eunwoo didn't know where Sungjae lived and had no idea where to begin looking for his friend. He didn't call you about what happened on the phone because he didn't want you to worry about Sungjae. But now you had texted him to track your phone. An unsettling feeling crept up. Something was wrong. Very wrong.

After a few minutes, the software began tracking your location. He frowned when he saw that you were in a location that you had no reason to be. A part of Seoul that was run down with hardly any buildings. It was a location that was just full of empty warehouses.

"What the hell?" Eunwoo muttered as he stared at the location.

He blinked a couple of times, thinking and hoping that it was just a trick of the eye and that the street you were moving on was a different street.

As he was getting his phone ready to call you, he received a call. It was from Namjoon. Eunwoo frowned once again. Namjoon should either be in the midst of his rut or near the end; either way he was going to be in no state to call him.

"Hello? ... Yeah ... What?! She's gone?" His eyes went to his screen. "Son of a bitch." You were stupid. He knew you were stupid. He was going to tell you, you were stupid when he saw you again. There was no doubt about that. "I have her location. I'll send it to you ... I'll be there too with Chief Bang ... I'll see you there."

Sungjae hung up the phone before he sent your location information to his phone. Then he rushed over to Sihyuk's office. He slammed the door open. Sihyuk looked up from his paperwork. As soon as Sihyuk saw Eunwoo's face, Sihyuk immediately stood up. Something was terribly wrong.

"It's Y/N-ie."

Sihyuk didn't need to hear anything else. From Eunwoo's face, something wrong happened and you were in danger.

"Everyone with me!" Sihyuk roared as he left his office with Eunwoo close behind him.

Jaebum chewed his bottom lip but wordlessly he followed the chief. If he acted differently, his cover would be blown and his innocent mates would be caught up in his mess. He just hoped that you would be safe and that the Hybrid Unit was going to get there in time.
