Chapter 9 | Thirteen

Hoseok's leg was bouncing up and down from anxiety. It was the day he was getting discharged from the hospital. He would have been discharged a day after being admitted into the hospital but it turned out that he had a small fracture in his arm from the beating he had received. So he had to stay in the hospital for an extra day. He had explained to Namjoon and Jimin that it wasn't a mugging. It was an unsolicited beating just because he was a Hybrid. A hate crime.

Looking down at the cast, he couldn't help but be reminded of the incident from two days ago. He couldn't remember much but there was one thing that he could remember. Your voice. What kind of coincidence could it be? That the girl who basically saved his life was the girl that Jimin couldn't stop talking about?

He reached for his phone and dialed a number.

Namjoon was sitting at his desk, narrowing his eyes at the human female sitting in front of him. There was a clear red hand mark on the woman's left cheek. She was wearing fairly revealing clothes and was batting her fake eyelashes at him. She was telling him her side of the story. But he wasn't really interested in hearing her side of the event. After all, he believed you much more than he believed the woman in front of him.

His eyes flicked back to you. You were sitting next to the woman, rolling your eyes listening to her side of the story, arms folded in front of your chest. He had to bite back a smile that was threatening to form.

"I really didn't do anything, detective," the woman said seductively.

"Yeah," you scoffed. "Because CCTV's aren't a thing."

"Shut up!" She sneered at you. She put her attention back on Namjoon, pressed her arms closer together to reveal her cleavage, in hopes that Namjoon would take her side.

"This is so stupid," you said standing up.

"Y/N-ssi, sit down," Namjoon said with authority in his voice. He was being professional.

You looked at him, wanting to say something but then sighed and sat back down with a pout, muttering under your breath. Jimin watched the entire thing from across the room, amusement clear in his eyes.

You had come back into the station for slapping the woman who was acting like she was above a Hybrid worker in a mall. Jimin could tell that you wanted to do more but held yourself back because she was a female. He knew how you were able to hold your own against men, so he could tell that you restrained yourself quite a bit.

He heard his phone ringing and smiled when he saw the caller ID. It was from Hoseok.

"Hyung," Jimin said happily into the phone. "Yeah? ... If you're sure ... Is Taehyung there too? ... Just come to the station then ... Yeah, she's here for hitting someone again ... Alright I'll see you soon."

Jimin smiled as he hung up the phone. Hoseok had called wanting to meet you so that he could properly thank you for saving him. Jimin always wanted to introduce you to the rest of his mates. But their schedules never really aligned, not to mention, he still didn't know your phone number. Sure he could easily get your number from Sihyuk or by looking through your records, but he wanted to ask you personally. He always missed the timing of asking you. But it didn't matter too much since you came into the station at least two to three times a week.

"Finally! I thought that bitch was never going to leave," you said rubbing your temples, feeling a migraine forming from listening to her nonsense.

Jimin smiled as he made his way over to Namjoon's desk. Jimin placed two hands on Namjoon's shoulder, slightly messaging them. "You showed unbelievable restraint," Jimin said teasingly.

"Oh, don't get me started!" You exclaimed. " 'I'm a pretty girl and I'm rich, so I can do whatever I want'," you mocked while dramatically flipping your hair. "Bitch please, I'm rich too...well my brother's rich but whatever. Semantics."

Namjoon and Jimin laughed. "You are pretty," Jimin said with a kind smile.

You looked at him with a cocked eyebrow. "You sir, need to book an appointment to see the optometrist. You are blind," you said with a smirk.

"Oh, come one, Y/N, you are pretty," Eunwoo piped up from his desk. You smiled at him. "You could easily get a boyfriend if you didn't have an anger management issue," Eunwoo said with a smirk causing your smile to fall instantly.

"Fuck you," you said flipping him the bird.

"See, you're just proving my point," Eunwoo said with a chuckle.

"Jjajangmyun alright for everyone?" Sihyuk asked as he walked out of his office, oblivious of the entire situation as he was in his office taking a very important call. His eyes fell on you and rolled his eyes. "You're here again?"

"Missed me, ahjussi?" You asked with a laugh and a wave.

"You staying for lunch, Y/N-ah?" Sihyuk asked.

"If you're buying," you responded with a bright smile. "I can never say no to free food."

"Your brother really needs to pay me for babysitting you," Sihyuk groaned as he made his way back into his office.

Hoseok and Taehyung walked into the Hybrid Unit of the Seoul Police Department. They looked at each other in confusion. They saw all the detectives and a sole human female sitting around a big circular table eating Jjajangmyun as if it was the most normal thing in the world. They knew that you were there for assaulting someone, yet you were sitting mingling with the other detectives and laughing. You were seated right in between Namjoon and Jimin, talking animatedly with them.

"Hyung! Taehyung-ah!" Jimin exclaimed when he saw the two Hybrids standing at the doorway.

You turned your attention to the two tall and handsome Hybrids, looking in your general direction with a very warm smile on their faces.

"Are they your mates?" You asked Jimin, who nodded brightly at you. "Are they here to pick you up? That's so cute!" You squealed.

"No, they wanted to meet you," Jimin explained.

Your response was simple. Confusion. "Me?" You asked, tilting your head to the side. You had no idea why Jimin and Namjoon's mates would want to meet you. Then a thought passed through your head. You turned to Jimin with a sly smirk on your face. "Oh speaking of which, a certain Mr. World Wide Handsom told me that you talk a lot about me to your pack," you said wiggling your eyebrows.

Jimin started blushing. "I-I... it's nothing bad!" Jimin said, slightly embarrassed. "But Namjoon-ie hyung and Seokjin-ie hyung also talk about you too," he quickly threw Seokjin and Namjoon under the bus.

You turned to look at Namjoon with a raised eyebrow and Namjoon coughed as he looked away from you. You couldn't help but laugh at their reaction.

Hoseok and Taehyung had already made their way towards their mates and you. Grabbing a chair, they sat near the three of you.

"You must be Hoseok," you said with a kind smile. Hoseok nodded. "How are you feeling?"

"Really good, thanks to you," Hoseok said with a very grateful look.

"Anyone would have done it," you said with a shrug.

At your response, Hoseok smiled brightly at you. Although he just met you, he could tell that you were just as amazing as what Jimin, Namjoon, and Seokjin had told him.

"No," Jackson scoffed. "You're the only one crazy enough to jump into a dangerous situation to protect a Hybrid."

"Well, I always knew I was crazy," you said with a shrug.

"Really? Since when?" Jackson asked playfully.

"15," you said with a laugh.

"No, you were 13," Eunwoo stated, rolling his eyes.

"13? Really?" You asked Eunwoo, clearly not remembering.

"Kim Minhyun, remember?" Eunwoo asked, shaking his head playfully.

"Oh yeah! I remember him," you said as the name resuscitated your memory of when you were 13. "He was an asshole."

"What? What happened?" Namjoon asked. You turned your attention to Eunwoo, slightly telling him to tell the story.

"Well, I was getting bullied by Kim Minhyun. One day he took it a little too far, and Y/N, well, she did what she does best and beat the living shit out of him and got herself suspended for a week," Eunwoo explained.

"It was so worth it," you said nonchalantly. Eunwoo only responded with a chuckle and a playful shake of his head. Thinking back to the event that caused you and him to become the best of friends.

"So you two knew each other since you were young?" Jimin asked, slightly agitated. Hoseok and Taehyung looked at Jimin curiously. He was never one to be jealous over anyone who wasn't his mate.

"Since we were a baby," I said with a smile.

"So you must know her scent," Namjoon spoke up.

You froze at the word 'scent' but quickly snapped out of it. Eunwoo looked at you worriedly. Jimin, Namjoon, Hoseok, and Taehyung didn't miss Eunwoo's look and the way you flinched. They looked at you curiously. You cleared your throat. You felt the four pairs of eyes on you, and it was making you slightly uncomfortable.

"That reminds me," Sihyuk spoke up, cutting the tense air. He saw your reaction and decided to change the topic. He was one of the two people in the station that knew your history. "We found the group that was responsible for Hoseok's hate crime. A group calling themselves InGo. They are an anti-Hybrid group founded about a decade ago when Hybrids started getting more rights in society. It looks like..."

You were thankful to Sihyuk for changing the topic. You looked up and locked eyes with Eunwoo, who was still looking at you worriedly. 'I'm okay,' you mouthed to Eunwoo who nodded and focused his attention on Sihyuk who was still talking about the hate group InGo.

Jimin, Namjoon, Hoseok, and Taehyung couldn't focus on what Sihyuk was saying. It was important for them but their thoughts were plagued with you. They knew something for sure. The reason you wear Scent Blockers was probably due to some traumatic experience from your youth.

Taehyung couldn't take his eyes off of you. His gaze was fixated on you, a strange feeling boiling in his stomach. He was the one Hybrid in their group that seemed to have a sixth sense, if you will. He had a feeling. A feeling that he needed to protect you no matter the cost.

Taehyung leaned over to Namjoon. "Does she have a mate?" He asked, so quietly that only Namjoon heard. Namjoon shook his head. "You might think I'm crazy, but I just have this feeling that she's our mate."

"Me too," Namjoon whispered back. Taehyung nodded, having Namjoon, the smartest member in their pack, agree with him gave him an approval that his feeling was correct.

Although Hoseok and Jimin weren't a part of the conversation between Namjoon and Taehyung, all four of them looked at you with soft and gentle eyes. Something that Eunwoo caught. Eunwoo masked his smile by taking a sip from his cup. He knew the gaze the four Hybrids were giving you. He had always suspected that Namjoon and Jimin had a thing for you but seeing that all four mates were looking at you the way he looked at his mates was confirmation enough.

The only thing that was occupying his head was simple: How can he convince you to not wear Scent Blockers around Namjoon and his mates?
