Chapter 6 | Possible Mate

Sighing, Namjoon was sitting at his desk. He was looking over the case of the deceased Calico Cat, named Jung Wheein, and Seunghee's case. There were a lot of similarities between the two cases, that was certain. For one, the two victims were both females. Although they weren't the same age, they were born relatively close to each other. The two were never reported missing. Hybrids who knew them just thought that the entire pack moved to a different city, so didn't realize that anyone in the pack was missing.

Namjoon rubbed his temples as he was reading up on the cases. There was something much more sinister than just a kidnapping. He had a gut feeling, and most of the time, his gut was never wrong. He knew that he had just scratched the surface with Wheein and Seunghee's case.

There wasn't too much information from Wheein's case. There were no reports on where Wheein's pack was or if anyone even bothered to look for them. Nothing was found at the scene of the crime, only Wheein's body. There was absolutely nothing to go on.

Seunghee's case didn't have much information either, but the only difference was the fact that Seunghee was a survivor. A witness. Namjoon remembered when he first encountered Seunghee, the frightened Bunny Hybrid who refused to talk to him or Jimin. She was clearly traumatized. She wasn't going to speak any time soon. Namjoon knew this but was feeling desperate. The more time they spent waiting for Seunghee to talk, would leave room for another victim to turn up.

While Namjoon was stressing over the two cases, Jimin skipped in, a lot brighter than when they arrived at work early in the morning. Namjoon raised his eyebrows. He didn't know what made him happier but he knew that it had something to do with you.

That was another thing that was bothering Namjoon, aside from the cases he was working on. You. It took a while before Jimin would get used to someone's company. When they first started working at the Hybrid Unit in Seoul Police Department, it took Jimin about three months to be on friendly terms with the other Detectives in the unit. But with you, he took about a day.

From the day Jimin met you, you were all Jimin talked about with his mates. Although Namjoon was very interested in you, he also thought you were suspicious. He thought that you must have had an ulterior motive to getting close to Jimin. But when he saw you the night before at Bangtan Restaurant and Cafe, all his suspicions and doubts immediately disappeared. Something about you calmed him.

He had a theory that you might be a mate of his pack. After all, it's not strange for a human to be a mate of Hybrids. It was just that there was a stigma so many Hybrids would keep quiet about such topics. Moreover, he just didn't have any proof. Hybrids could find their mates through scents. You didn't have a scent. Namjoon already guessed that you were putting on Scent Blockers because it was biologically impossible for a human not to have a scent. Why you felt the need to hide your scent was a mystery to him. He would love to ask you about it, but he didn't feel like you two were close enough for him to ask such a personal question.

"You should have seen Y/N-ssi," Jimin said once he saw Namjoon's raised eyebrow. "She was speaking with the Chief of Police as if he was just a next-door neighbour that she knew for a long time. Chief Park was trying to get her to leave the holding cell, and she refused and asked to stay until lunch because she was going to be hungry on the way home." Jimin laughed as he recanted the events down at the holding cell.

"So did she leave already?" Namjoon asked.

"She should've if she's done arguing with Chief Park," Jimin nodded. "Why?"

"I need to talk to her about Seunghee-ssi's case," Namjoon stood up from his chair.

"If you hurry, you might be able to catch her," Jimin said with a smile, sitting down at his desk.

Namjoon quickly bolted out of the room and headed down to the holding cell. Much to his disappointment, you were already gone by the guard told Namjoon that he missed you by two minutes. Nodding a thanks, he quickly ran up the stairs, hoping to catch you before you left the property.

He saw your figure standing outside, almost basking in the sunlight. Your head was tilted up to the sky and your hands were clasped together behind your back.

"Y/N-ssi!" He called out.

You turned around at the mention of your name. He quickly ran up to the spot beside you.

"Namjoon-ssi! Did you need something?" You asked, tilting your head to the side. Confused as to why the Wolf Hybrid was stopping you.

"Yeah, I just wanted to ask you a few questions in regards to Seunghee-ssi's case," Namjoon said, nervously. He didn't know how you were going to react.

"Oh," you said with a knowing look. "I don't know what you want to question me about, but go ahead."

"Do you think that you'll be able to get her to speak to you or Hyojung-ssi about what happened the day she was hit by Hyojung-ssi?" Namjoon asked, being very careful with his wording. "I'm only asking because I know she trusts you as much as she trusts Hyojung-ssi. It'll be easier for her to speak to you than having her come into the station and speak to two detectives that she doesn't know."

You frowned as you thought about Namjoon's request. You completely understood why he was asking you to do it. After all, criminals don't take into consideration how much the police know before doing their next crime. To prevent any more Hybrids from falling victim, it was important for the detective to know everything they could about the case.

"I'll try, but I'm not going to risk her mental health," you said firmly. You didn't want to make an empty promise to the detective.

"Thank you, Y/N-ssi," Namjoon said, truly thankful that you were being sincere in your promise.

You giggled. "You don't need to be all proper with me, Namjoon-ssi. I heard from Jimin-ssi that you were older than me. Just call me Y/N. I won't get mad, I promise," you said with a bright smile.

"Alright, if that's alright with you," Namjoon said with a soft smile, showing off his dimples.

"Well, if you don't mind, Detective. I have a very important date I can't miss," you said with a smirk.

"Oh, so you're in a relationship?" Namjoon asked, slightly agitated that you were seeing another man.

"Oh, yes, I'm in a very committed relationship with my bed," you said with a smile, causing Namjoon to laugh at the very unexpected answer. "I just hope my bed isn't upset that I slept at the holding cell again," you said dramatically.

"I'm sure, your bed will get over it," Namjoon said with a chuckle.

"I hope so too," you said with a laugh. "I'll make sure to contact you if I find out anything from Seunghee. Bye!"

You waved as you skipping down the pathway to the street. Namjoon watched you leave with a smile on his face. He was now, nearly sure that you were one of his mates. When you mentioned a possible relationship, he felt his heart clench. It's never happened before when he was talking to a woman, Human or Hybrid. But with you, even though he didn't spend too much time with you or even talked to you often, it was different.

If you were a mate of his, then that would explain how Jimin was able to open up to you in a matter of a day. Why Seokjin gushed about you when you helped one of his workers, although it, quite frankly, had nothing to do with Seokjin. All he needed was proof. The only thing he needed to do now, was to get you to get rid of your scent blocker, or at least be able to smell your scent. Then he'll have the answer he's looking for.
