Chapter 1 | One Year, Four Months, Fifteen Days
[Y/N]

It felt different. I know it isn't, but the air felt different. It tasted different. It smelled different. It's amazing how life events can change your outlook on things.

I looked to the clear blue skies. I closed my eyes to feel the warmth of the sunlight. The past year made me more sentimental it seems. To be more precise, it was one year, four months, and fifteen days, but who's counting?

"Y/N-ah!" A voice snapped me back into reality. I opened my eyes and turned to the source of the voice.

My mouth turned up into a big grin. The voice belonged to my cousin, Choi Hyojung. I squealed.

She ran towards me, catching me a bone-crushing hug. I hugged her back with just as much power. It felt nice to see her again.

She pulled back from the hug and smiled slyly at me. She lifted the black plastic bag in her hand. "I got you tofu to celebrate you getting out of prison," she said proudly.

I couldn't help but laugh at her. She playfully hit my arm. "What? I always wanted to try it since I couldn't last time."

"Yeah, yeah, your welcome," I said, still laughing as I took the plastic bag from her hands.

She smiled at me, I could see that her eyes were filled with many different emotions. I smiled back at her.

She was really the only family I had left. Hyojung was the only one who stuck by me like glue. There was nothing I wouldn't do for her. She was my family. She was my sister. And sometimes she was my mom.

My parents quickly disowned me, when I went to prison for the first time when I was 18. I haven't seen either of them since. I didn't mind it too much. I wasn't worried about them. After all, my older brother, Minho was taking care of them. And he takes everything very seriously, so I'm sure he's taking care of them to the best of his ability.

Minho and I meet up very rarely, especially since my parents are adamant about me not seeing him. They were scared that I would corrupt their perfect son. Because of their fears, we would only meet up in secret, once every few months. I love Minho with all my heart, but because of our 6-year difference, we weren't as close as other brothers and sisters. He still took care of me as best as he could, sending me money every other month, secretly of course. Not to mention, he is very busy with his work as the CEO of Shawol, a production company.

"There's so much I need to catch you up on," Hyojung said with her signature bright smile. I swear this girl only knows how to smile. I don't think I've ever seen her angry.

She linked her arm with mine and started leading me towards the nearest bus station.

"Am I going to get a brother-in-law?" I asked.

She giggled as she rolled her eyes.

"Am I going to get a sister-in-law? Which is fine, by the way," I said with a smile.

"No, I'm not getting married," Hyojung said with a giggle.

"Good," I said with a firm nod. "I need to assess him or her before I give you away in marriage."

She rolled her eyes playfully. "Don't forget you're still younger than I am."

"Yeah, but I have more life experience than you do," I pointed out with a smile. "I mean, who else can say that they've been to jail twice before the age of 30?"

She hit my arm with a pout. "You can't joke about things like that!"

"Meh, I don't care," I shrugged.

"Oh yeah!" She exclaimed as she quickly stopped in her tracks. "Do you remember me telling you about the Hybrid that I accidentally hit?"

I nodded.

"Well, the detectives asked me if I was willing to take care of the Hybrid until they solve her case," Hyojung said quietly.

"Wait, 'her case'? I thought it was just a simple car accident."

Hyojung started walking slower and closer to me. She looked around, making sure that no one was near us. "It seems like she was held against her will. She doesn't remember where or who, but she kept saying that she needs to free her sisters. So they opened up a case, to find her sisters and find the people or person responsible. She was really uncomfortable around men, both Human and Hybrid, so they asked me if I was willing to shelter her for the time being," she said quietly as if she was afraid that someone would overhear our conversation.

I clenched my jaw, I could feel my anger rising. I breathed in deeply to try and calm myself. I just got out of prison, I shouldn't go back... at least not now.

"Who's in charge of her case, do you know?" I asked.

"Detective Kim Namjoon, I think."

I frowned. I've never heard of Detective Kim Namjoon. I knew most of the detectives in the Hybrid Unit. Perhaps, he joined while I was in prison.

"So when are you going to start sheltering her?" I asked.

"Starting from tomorrow. They wanted me to take her in today, but I told them I was busy picking up my baby cousin," she cooed at me.

I rolled my eyes. "Hey, you have money on you, right? Do you mind if we stop by the Pharmacy before heading home?"

"Sure, why?"

"I need to buy scent blocking sticks," I said with a shrug.

Hyojung glared... well more like looked at me as she tried to be intimidating. "Yah! You just got out of prison? Are you already planning on going back?"

I giggled. "Not yet. I mean, sure my goal in life is to have been to prison 3 times before turning 30, but I still have three years." Hyojung slapped my arm once again. "I'm kidding! It just feels like I can be easily tracked by my scent so I want to prevent that. You can never be too careful." Hyojung nodded thoughtfully.

"Besides, not getting caught by the police is just an added bonus," I said playfully. She immediately frowned. I grinned mischievously as I ran away from her.

"Yah! Choi Y/N!" She exclaimed as she quickly ran after me.

I couldn't help but stick my tongue out at her. I giggled as I weaved in and out, not letting her catch me.
