From what you could gather it was almost midnight when you made it to the tavern the old man had talked about. Your legs were sore and you were hungry, but most importantly you needed sleep. Luckily there was some belli, the money currency of the era of piracy, placed safely in your cloak.

You didn't think of the old man as a person who would think of such detail. But if he was the one to light the bonfire to keep you from the cold you suspected he could also leave some extra cash for you to make use of. You made eye contact with an old lady sitting in front of the reception as you entered. She checked your disarrayed form for a quick second. Clearly dismayed with what she had seen she busied herself with the money she had been counting before.

-"Uhm. Room for one please...The cheapest one you got." You shuffled your feet. Feeling nervous due to it being your first normal conversation with a person from this..place. You could hear the shouting coming from the different rooms. No matter where you went the people sure were rowdy.

-"That will be 25 belli for the night, breakfast included." She grunted and after you handed her the amount she requested she simply stated: "Follow me."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You slumped down on the bed and threw the cloak on the floor after finally being alone for what seemed like the first time in a century. You laid there for a minute or two and stood up to take a look around your surroundings.
The room was small. Other than the bed and chair there was little space for you to move. You stood up and spotted a broken mirror situated on the wall parallel to the bed. You looked rough, your clothes were ripped and way too short for the cold weather. You would need to buy new clothes. You were scared of spending up the little money you had. You needed to find a way to make money. Maybe you could steal? Ace was a pirate after all. You would match his lifestyle?...Hahaha nope. You were too weak at heart for that.
You picked up the cloak to place it on the chair. However, something caught your eye which made you stop. A piece of paper was neatly sewed in to the inside of the cloak. The writing had become hard to read over the years but it was still somewhat readable. The title said:
"The Rulebook"
1- Do not forget the staff. Ever. Don't lose it, forget it. Don't EVER let someone steal it.
2- Don't tell people of the cycle.
3- Don't tell your soulmate the circumstances of their death or anything about their death at all.
Soulmate? Who was your soulmate? Could it be talking about Ace? Oh.. A soulmate as in the person whose soul had mixed up with yours. A soulmate. The thought made you blush.
3 rules were written on the paper, however, a handwritten note was written on the side of the paper as well.
"The power of the Devil Staff"
This staff is made up of the branch that gave birth to the two devil fruits Tremor-Tremor Fruit (Gura Gura no Mi) and Water-Water Fruit. The essence of the branch can be viewed inside the red jewel on top of the devil staff. Make sure no harm comes to the jewel as if it were to break, it would lose its power. Which can only be retained by ]%{^{%{^*{*{^^{.
The last part couldnt be read.
The power of the staff is not on par with the actual fruits or their users. However, if used smartly and carefully the staff is the strongest weapon "The Saver" can use.
So the liquid inside the jewel was the essence achieved from the fruits..I knew I had seen something moving inside that jewel. You thought. So that was it.
The Tremor-Tremor Fruit reminded you of something..But you couldn't quite place where you knew the fruit from. Probably one of the main characters had the power of that devil fruit. You speculated. You still didn't fully understand what your powers were. Water and tremor?
You threw the cape on the chair in frustration and jumped on the bed. It wasn't the most comfortable thing you had slept on but it sure was better than the rocks from before.
You couldn't wrap your mind around having powers, or being inside a fictional world-or what you thought was a fictional word. Could any of this be real. These powers, these words they all seemed like a joke to you.
And Ace...You..the SAVIOR of Ace. The savior of Fire Fist Ace. You laughed, it was against the being of his character to be saved. He was a person who would rather do the saving. And for his savior to be you of all people! You knew he would have laughed louder then you had when you first heard it.
To be able to save Ace would be ... You had no family at home, no friend to miss or no pet to cry over. To be able to save him, it would place meaning to your life. Ironically instead of him, it felt as if you were being saved already.
For the first time in days you laid comfortably on a bed as you fell asleep with thoughts of what you had been through swirling in your head.
