A cool breeze ruffles my hair making me shiver and wrap the covers tighter around myself. After a few minutes of restlessness I am forced to throw them off and sit up to find the balcony doors open. I rub my eyes as I sleepily walk into the sunlight.

"Morning sleeping beauty." William greets me folding the newspaper and setting down his tea cup.

I yawn. "Morning."

Now that I'm fully awake do I realize that my shirt is pushed up over my little bump. I pull it down but the shape is still visible. Thanks to it being the middle of my third month.

I sit down on a chair next to William. He takes my hand and rubs it as he continues reading his paper while I squint in the sun and look up at the sky.

"You have an appointment with Dr. Maria, remember?" He says all of a sudden.

"Shit! I'd forgotten all about it." I smack my forehead. "What time is the appointment?"

William pulls back his coat's sleeve to reveal his Rolex. "The appointment is at twelve and its nine o'clock right now."

I nod my head. "Alright."

"I have a meeting in an hour. But it'll be over by the time and I'll meet you at the hospital." He tells me.

This surprises me. "You're going with me?"

"Yeah. Is there something wrong with that?" He looks at me with an eyebrow raised in question.

I shake my head. "It's just that you're really busy these days with the project just launched and all those industrial meetings. Are you sure that you can make time for it because I'd understand if you can't make it. Just don't bound yourself for such a small thing."

He rests his arms on his knees and leans forward before tilting his head towards me to look at me.

"If I didn't have time I'd tell you but I've made time and I want to do this because if I don't have time for my own family then what's the point of having one?"

This makes me smile and kiss his cheek before going back in to get ready for the day. I'm still in the shower when I hear a knock on the door and then William's muffled voice calls out "I'm leaving!" I say goodbye from within the shower and moments later I hear the bedroom's door close.

In half an hour, I've taken a shower, changed clothes and am eating breakfast. I've gotten used to Helen arriving during this time to tell me my work for the day.

But today I say. "Helen, I have to go somewhere with William today. So I don't think I can get much work done."

"Oh! That's fine with me." She tells me.

She leaves and I go back to drinking my orange juice. I've drank two glasses when she hurries back in and asks. "Can I get the day off if you're going to be busy?"

"Sure." I tell her and she leaves again.

At exactly twelve o'clock I stop the car outside the hospital and step out to find William and his escort car waiting for me.

Seeing me get out William walks over, saying. "Right on time."

"I am." I reply as we start walking towards the entrance.

A sudden thought strikes me. "What did you tell the guards we're here for?"

"They don't need to know anything but as far as I let slip was that I'm here for a checkup and you're here because we're going out for lunch together after it, which we are." He explains.

I nod and walk towards the front desk where the same girl is typing something on her computer and once again ignores me.

After waiting for a second for her to notice us, I clear my throat but she keeps typing. Almost at once her phone starts ringing and she balances it on her shoulder so she can multitask. I stare at her in disbelief before my patience runs out and I snatch away her phone.

This makes her look up and her mouth falls open at the sight of me. "Hi! It's me again. Do you want me to identify myself again?"

"No...No...Of course not...Do you have an appointment? Even if you don't its fine..." She stutters but I cut short. "I do have one."

"In that case you can head over to her room." She tells me with a smile.

"Thanks." I tell her before turning back to William who's staring at me.

"What?" I ask as we make our way through the hospital which seems empty except for a couple of people who are too sick to notice us.

When we finally stop outside the right room, William raises his hand and knocks smartly on the door. Almost at once the door's thrown open and Aunt Maria steps out with her arms wide open.

She envelopes me into a hug and then looks at William. "Oh my! I can't believe I'm finally meeting you, sir."

"Oh no! Please call me William and is it alright if call you Maria?" He shakes her out stretched hand.

"Of course!" With this she ushers us in and closes the door after us.

William and I take seats on one side of her table and she sits on her chair on the other side. She takes out a folder and rights down my name on it in doctor's scroll.

"So, let's start with the most basic things." She says. "Have you been experiencing morning sickness?"

I nod my head. "Yes."

"For how long? Maybe an estimate?" She suggests.

I think for a moment and then look at William for help, who offers an answer. "A week after she visited you."

She quickly notes it down in the folder and then looks at us again. "Any cravings?"

I nod my head again. "Yes."

"Any specific food?" She asks.

"Pasta." William and I say together making her smile as she writes it down too.

"I don't believe you've had hormones as yet." She says looking at me.

This time I shake my head. "No."

"I thought so." She writes something else.

"Alright. That's all for now. Are you ready for the ultrasound?" She asks getting up from her seat. When I nod my head she says. "Why don't you change into a robe and I'll get everything set up."

I get up from my seat and go into the little changing room which has several of the robes hanging on hooks. I take down one and change into the blue and white polka dot cloth. This makes my bump visible just like the shirt this morning did.

When I step outside William is standing with his back to me and Aunt Maria is nowhere in sight.

"Where is she?" I ask making him turn to me.

"She left to wash her hands." He replies.

I walk up to him and take his hand. "Ready to see our baby for the first time." He nods in reply and kisses my forehead.

In a minute she reappears and pulls back the curtain which separates the ultrasound machine from the rest of the room.

"Lie down, will you?" She says.

I follow her instructions and stretch out on the narrow hospital bed. She finishes setting it up and then turns to me. She pulls up the robe to reveal my stomach and I blush because of the presence of my husband.

It might be something he's seen before but still...

She rubs the gel over the region where the fetus is and then picks up a device which looks like a stick attached to the machine by a wire. She gently places it on my stomach and moves it back and forth.

The monitor's screen lights up and an image starts to form. At first it's blurry but soon it starts to clear up.

All of a sudden she says. "Oh my God!"

This makes me panic and sit up in a rush. "Is everything alright?"

Seeing me sit up makes her realize what she just said and she smiles at me. "Yes, everything's fine. It's just something I don't think you know."

"What?" William asks from my side.

"You're going to have twins!" She announces.

I automatically place a hand over my stomach. I'm not carrying one baby but two! A smile breaks across my face and I throw my arms around William's neck. He kisses my head and rubs my back.

When we finally pull away, she says. "I'll get a printout of the ultrasound. You get changed in the meanwhile."

When she leaves, I get off the bed and throw myself into William's arms before kissing him hard on the lips. He rests his hand on my hips, close to the sides of my stomach before kissing the bridge of my nose.

By the time she gets back I've changed and stand with my hand in William's.

She hands over the envelope and the folder she wrote in before saying. "I wish you both the best of luck!"
