Seven hundred years ago, that's when this all began. When vampires came out of hiding and began living among us. To say that it's been a hectic few hundred years would be an understatement.ย

Humans tried to wage war so that they'd go back into hiding but it was futile. The vampires would wage war, and go on killing sprees. It was a time that no one would ever forget. It's seen as the greatest alliance yet. The alliance between humans and vampires.

The Vampire Kingโ€•whom everyone lovesโ€• is the one who proclaimed the alliance. Instead of allowing vampires to kill us, humans, he decided that we could live in harmony.

He didn't want war and fear to control the way we lived so he proposed a treaty with the human officials to keep the peace. They were skeptical at first, of course, they were. It wouldn't be wise to trust a vampire, much less the Vampire King.

ย It was a time when humans were wary and paranoid. Thinking that everyone was out to get them. They didn't even want to trust one another.

When thinking about the peace treaty; vampires needed humans for blood. And humans needed to have peace with vampires. Humans needed peace to prevent the vampires from killing them or even making them slaves. If they didn't sign, humans would die, and vampires would have to drink animals' blood.

It was a smart decision and seemed to be the only one they could make. So, they signed and humans and vampires began to co-exist. It was hard to maintain at first, humans could not get along with one another. Look at slavery and all those wars, humans deal with things in many. . .violent ways.

Once they signed the treaty, human officials stayed in their positions of power. And the vampire royal families stayed in theirs, reigning in their monarchies. Both powers worked together to keep the peace. Even though we don't like to admit it, the Vampire King had the final decision. No one would admit it but it's the truth.

So far, we've had some peace when it comes to our odd coexistence. Though, when it comes to the people it's a different story.

The number of students that have moved schools due to the acceptance of vampires is insane. Their parents would take them out, and they'd move to a town or city that's less accepting of them. Like Florida for example. Or even any year-round sunny place. If you go there, it's scarce on vampires.

From what I experienced before, this was a bit of a change. A new law allowed vampires to come to human-populated schools. The passing of the law was ten years ago.

Even though I was six at the time, I can't exactly remember what life was like before it.

"Adara, honey? Are you okay?" My mother asks. Her voice is sweet like honey and soothing. It makes me want to forget all about my worries.

I break out of my thoughts once she speaks. I turn away from the delicious plate of macadamia nut cookies she baked and I look at her. She creases her eyebrows and strands of her honey blonde hair fall in front of her eyes. She takes two fingers, using her manicured nails to push her hair back.

"Yeah, I'm okay mom. Was daydreaming." I tell her as I fixate my eyes on the television screen.

Vampire Prince Spotted With Girl at an Event

These are the words that roll on the screen. I get the remote to turn up the volume.ย

There's something on the news about the Vampire Prince every day. He could do anything, and it'll be on the news. I mean, I get the fascination, the Vampire Prince of ArchDale is attractive.

What many people find super alluring about him is the danger that comes with him. He's never seen smiling, and his scandals go up high to the heavens. He's dark, mysterious, and leaves many questions unanswered. I see the appeal. But still, to a point, a person needs their space. Royalty or not.

"โ€”do you think that the Prince is finally settling down?" The woman news anchor states. She looks at her partner, a dark-skinned middle-aged man.

He flashes a set of pearly whites for the screen to see. He sits straight, his hands resting on the table in front of them.

"On one hand I want it to be true since it will finally show that he's a person with feelings. But I'm not too sure that these single girls and guys will be happy that he's taken." He says. He looks between 'Kara' and the papers on the desk.

"You're right, John, who knows? Do you think she'll be the future Queen of ArchDale? All I know is that the Prince is going to leave a wake of heartbroken women in his path." She laughs.

"And men. It's not a good day to be gay when men like him exist." John, the other news anchor, says wiping sweat from his head.

"That's right John." She wipes a small tear from her eyes.

They compose themselves, flipping through the pages on their desk.

"In other news, the human student body count continues to drop by almost twenty percent. Which is due to the acceptance of vampires in our schools. Not to mention, it continues to drop." She says.

John nods along and adds on to what she's saying. "Yes, also let's not forget a little birdie told us about a meeting with the King and the owners of the De Clare Law Firm. What do you think that's about, Kara?"

My eyes become wide. I look at my mother who's already on the phone. Was that the very important thing my parents said that they had tomorrow?

My mother rolls her eyes as she hangs up the phone.

"Is that the meeting you and dad have coming up?" I ask her, and she lets out a long frustrated breath.

"Yes, dear. I'm trying to call your father to see if he slipped and told someone with his big fat mouth but he won't pick up." She tries to phone him again but it goes through to voice-mail.

"It's to be private." She mutters putting her phone face down on the coffee table.

She rubs her temples in exasperation. I take a cookie off the plate and I nibble on one. Thoughts rush through my head as my mother tries to call my father again.

What will the meeting be about? Why are they even having a meeting? Who leaked it? Information like this about the Royal Family is discreet. Anyone who isn't involved shouldn't know.

My mother turns to me, worry in her eyes. "Everything's okay, right mom?" I ask her.

"Yes, sweetie everything's alright. You know that since vampires came out of hiding, not a lot have liked them. They have thrown riotsโ€”even tried to assassinate the Royal Family. I called our bodyguards to prevent anything from happening. Besides darling, they don't know where the meeting's taking place. We'll be fine." She stands, kissing the top of my head.

As she's walking away I remember a question to ask her.

"Wait, mom! What's the meeting about?" She looks back at me and sighs with a smile lingering on her lips.

"It's only to discuss the Prince's behaviors and how to keep others from suing him." She turns on her heels and leaves.

She says it like it is no big deal. Everyone knows how the Prince is. It's expected, the things he does.

I go back into my room, turning the lights off. I slip under my covers getting ready to sleep. I twist and turn as I try to doze off. Looking at my clock I see that it's eleven fifty-two at night.

Gosh, it is late. I need to fall asleep, I have school tomorrow.

I end up looking at the wall, staring at the fake leaves that I bought a few months ago. I turn on my side, watching the changes in my lava lamp. The purple hue changes to pink and back. I hold my teddy bear close to me, snuggling into it as I watch the lava lamp for a few minutes. My eyes then begin to doze off.

What is that meeting about? The Prince has been in tons of scandals so what's so special about this one?

I close out with the thought as I drift off into a sleep filled with dreams about marshmallows and stuffies.
