Chapter 25

It was officially two days before the wedding.

All the Alphas left yesterday, except for Aiden and Tate of course. After a tense consultation between Thane and him, they came to the conclusion that Tate had to go with Aiden for everyone's safety. For one, it's physically impossible for wolves to leave each other after they find their mates and for another reason, Aiden has built himself a long list of enemies and now everyone knows he has a mate. So it was only a matter of time before someone tried to get Tate to harm and weaken Aiden.

Even though age doesn't really matter once you're sixteen in the wolf world, Thane thought Tate was way too young to be moving with Aiden but he knew he couldn't stop them. Plus Tate was turning seventeen on the day of our wedding. So after a long battle with himself, he allowed Tate to go with Aiden once the wedding was over since she wanted to be here for the both of us. Thane however still couldn't help but growl at Aiden every time he saw him which was quite amusing.

I'm just thankful we aren't in any miscalculated danger anymore.

I was currently sitting in the patio of our bedroom in the pack house since Thane was busy doing Alpha duties and almost everyone else was busy decorating the clearing near the pack house. The flowers and cake were already decided on and I was instructed to relax and not move a finger as everyone else were setting everything up for the wedding.

Relaxing definitely wasn't something I could do as I sat in the balcony area and contemplated my life and how I got to this moment.

Marriage definitely wasn't something I thought I would've been doing at nineteen years old, nor was having a kid. Most importantly I couldn't even imagine werewolves being real.

Yet here I am, about to marry one. About to marry my mate. About to marry the love of my life.

I gasped aloud at that thought.

Love.

I knew deep down that I loved Thane but it wasn't until this moment that I admitted it to myself. I have yet to tell him and everyday I could see in his eyes that he was anxiously waiting to tell me he love me again but he thought I wasn't ready to hear it just yet. I could tell he was also worried that I didn't feel the same way but that was impossible for me.

It wasn't just the matting bond, it was Thane that had me falling.

I was about to go into the infirmary, even though I knew it didn't have anyone who needed healing but I was bored out of my mind.

But what I saw at the edge of the forest in the backyard made me do a double take.

It couldn't have been.

It was impossible.

I leaned over the railing and tried to ensure that what I saw was real, but when it didn't disappear, I knew it was no hallucination.

I don't know what compelled me to do what I did next but I immediately ran down all flights of stairs and went straight to the backyard.

I stood right outside the backdoor of the house and faced the woods. I stared straight ahead into the forest but I couldn't believe my eyes.

I slowly approached the figure and as I got close, he turned and walked a little further into the forest so I jogged to keep up with him.

We were just concealed from the house by the forest so that no one could see us out here.

The person turned around and we were within arms reach of each other. I opened my mouth to say something but nothing came out.

I didn't know how to feel. Sad, relieved, excited, anxious or worried? Maybe the last feelings were the most prominent.

I didn't know why he was here or how, but I felt a bit of relief to see someone from my past.

"Jake?" I managed to whisper.

"Emery." He smiled at me evilly and without warning pulled me into his arms.

I stood as stiff as a board not knowing what to do or expect because his appearance shook the living daylights out of me.

He pulled away from me but kept his hands on my arms as he smiled down at me, "I knew I would've find you."

My eyes frantically searched the woods behind him in case he brought back up with him which in this case would be the hunters.

"Don't worry, there's no one with me."

"H-how did you find me?" I asked cautiously.

"And here I was thinking you missed me." He chuckled without humor.

"Jake we broke-"

"Broke up, yes I remember very clearly. Just as I remembered you running into the Beast's arms."

"I don't know what you're talking about." I played it off.

He rolled his eyes at me, "Don't play innocent with me pumpkin, I know all about your little animal and his pack."

I shook my head and tried to throw him off, "You don't know what you're talking about, I woke up in the forest, lost and confused and ended up in this town but I haven't been able to get through the forest."

"You're lying to me pumpkin," He gave my arms a little squeeze in warning, "I don't appreciate liars."

"How'd you find me?" I repeated.

"Come on, you really think after years of searching I wouldn't find this place?" He asked in a mocking tone.

"How'd you get in?" I knew something was wrong because there were guards on patrol twenty-four seven.

"Ohh, you mean how I got past the mutts," He showed me a gun strapped onto his leg that I missed before and felt my heart in my stomach at the sight of it, "don't worry Emery, it's just a tranquilizer. I'm not that careless."

I released a breath in relief but knew he was up to something, "Why didn't you shoot them?"

"Because then I'm sure someone would've realized they were dead by now through some wolf magic I'm sure exists."

"How do you know so much?"

He just shrugged and said, "A good friend."

"What friend?" I clenched my teeth in anger but he just shrugged off the question.

"What do you want?" I spit out at him.

He smirked at that, "Ahh the golden question. Well now you see that's where you come in."

"I wouldn't help you Jake. I'll tell them all that you were here." I threatened.

He applied pressure to my arms, "You wouldn't dare."

"I would and they'd kill you in the blink of an eye."

"I'll kill you before they get me Emery and if you're dead then your little mate's dead."

I gasped in horror because he was practically right, Thane's wolf would grieve my death to the point that he would be weak and the pack would suffer.

"Just listen to what I say and no one will get hurt." He tried to reason.

I didn't answer him and he squeezed my arms hard until I whimpered in pain, "You're hurting me."

"You'll heal wouldn't you." He said and I gasped in horror because I had no idea how he knew that.

"Who told you?"

"It doesn't matter, now back to what I want."

"I don't care about what you want, they'll kill you before I can even deliver."

He smirked without a care in the world, "They may be stronger and faster but my silver bullets are faster Emery. One shot and they'll be dead." I felt chills of pure terror run through me at his words.

"Well there's nothing here that you can want."

"A wolf." He shrugged.

"I don't know what you're-"

"Yes you do Emery, I know what they are. You're little mate, all the creatures that live here, I know what they fucking are, werewolves." He said in anger.

"If you know what they are then why do you want one?" I glared at him.

"Because no one's going to believe me if I just ran into town and cried wolf. Heck the only reason I believe they exists is because I saw a few myself a few days ago, when I was trying to get to you."

Then it all clicked, "You were the one in the forest weren't you? You killed that rogue? You were luring me out."

He just smiled at me, "Lovely to see you haven't gotten that stupid since joining the wolf gang."

"Whose child did you have with you?" I asked because it was a child's crying that I heard.

"No one's." He rolled his eyes, "I played it through a speaker."

"Then how did you kill that wolf?" I asked because there was no possible way he could have taken a rogue alone.

"I didn't even do it," he grinned, "but it did make things quite easier. Now all you have to do is hand over a wolf to me and I will leave you all in peace...for now. I still have to gather an army to take down your dogs."

"Watch your mouth." I almost growled at him.

He looked at me in amusement, "Look at you getting all feisty. They seem to be rubbing off on you."

"You're stupid to think I can get you a wolf. How would I even deliver?" I asked just to kill time until someone hopefully comes looking for me.

He released one of my arm and placed a small syringe in my palm with a clear liquid, "It's a dose of tranquilizer but tailored precisely to knock out a wolf for at least a few hours. You slip this to one of your buddies and bring their body right in this spot and I will deal with it from there."

I looked at him like he grew two heads, "Why in the world would you actually believe I would do what you say let alone sacrifice one of my own pack member to you?"

"Because if you don't, I will get my best sniper and take your mate out."

I felt my heart stop and my stomach plummet at what he said and he just gave me a smile at seeing my reaction.

"After I kill him, I will lead every hunter out here and create a war that will destroy all the beasts." He smirked.

"But that would happen one way or another when you drag a wolf to town."

He nodded his head, "I agree. Which is why if you help me, I would warn you before we attack. I would only allow you and your mate to remain alive but I'm afraid the rest of them will die." He said with fake sympathy.

"I wouldn't leave everyone here to die." I yelled at him.

"Hmm and what you're going to stop them?" He asked in a condescending voice. "They'll die either way doll but at least they would have a warning first."

"You're a coward and you're going to die." I hissed at him.

He squeezed my arms so tight I was sure it would bruise, "Shut your mouth! If you don't deliver then my first bullet will be in your mate's head." He threatened.

There was a war battling in my head but I could never consider what he's asking but he can't know that, "I will have a wolf here in three days time." The day after the wedding.

I can trick him into coming here and since I would be mated to Thane I could easily mind link him before this idiot before me could do anything.

Seemed simple enough.

"If you don't-"

"I will." I cut him off and shoved as much sincerity into my voice as I could muster.

"Great, and if you don't then tell your dog I will be coming for him." He grinned as he released my arms, "One more thing before I go though, just to ensure my sources are telling the truth," He pulled out a switchblade from his pocket and before I could comprehend what he was about to do he grabbed my left hand which didn't contain the syringe and quickly sliced a line on my palm enough to draw blood.

"What the fuck Jake!" I whispered yelled at him as my palm felt an unbearable pain shoot across my arm. I wrapped my palm into my t-shirt and cradled it for a few seconds until he yanked my hand back into his view.

At the sight of my healing hand, his eyes bugged out of his head in pure disbelief, "She was right." He barely said above a whisper.

The cut already stopped bleeding and was already closing up right before our eyes and my enemy officially knew what my power was.

With one last grin Jake said, "See you in three days pumpkin." He called me that god awful endearment again as if we were best buddies. He left with that as he rushed through the trees, deeper into the forest.

I stood there in absolute terror and bewilderment at what was to come and what I was going to do.

A/N

Wow! Well it looks like Jake's back in the picture. But he's the enemy now...👀 Did anyone expect him to make it to the pack?

What do you think Emery will do? Betray her pack and Thane or risk a war?
