DELILAH

I changed into more comfortable clothes, one of Liam's shirts and shorts while Brian arrived. I closed my eyes, wishing away the insanity even though I knew it would never go away. Unless Caleb was apprehended and Carissa was off the streets. The woman staring back at me in the mirror looked older, more mature. She also looked tired and scared. There was so much fear in my eyes that I was sure a random person on the streets could see it.

I put my hair up in a messy bun, removed my makeup before walking over to the living room where Liam was waiting for me. He smiled when he saw me, shutting the TV off.

"I don't know why you wear makeup. You look beautiful like this," he murmured.

I rolled my eyes. "How much longer until Brian gets here?"

"It should be a few minutes," he said with a small smile. "I need you to remain calm though. Do you think you can do that?"

I nodded, leaning my head on his shoulder. We spent the minutes before Brian arrived holding each other. Liam was thoughtful, I could basically see all the wheels on his brain turning, trying to think of something though I couldn't really tell what it was. I didn't bother asking because more than likely he wouldn't say anything to not worry me.

I was beginning to fall asleep when we heard the knock at the door.

"You can go back to bed if you want, love," he said. I shook my head no. I needed to know what was going to happen or if anything was going to be done. I saw Liam rub off the tension on his neck before opening the door and letting Brian inside. His gaze fled to me, a smile creeping on to his face when he saw my growing bump.

"This was a surprise," he said, glancing over at Liam.

"Yeah, wasn't planning it either," Liam muttered, gesturing for him to take a seat.

Brian sat on a sofa next to me but Liam remained standing. He was refraining from saying many things, that much I could tell. I cleared my throat gaining both men's attention.

"So are we just going to stare in awkward silence or is anyone planning on talking any time soon?"

Brian let out a breath, before speaking up. "You said there was information on Caleb?"

"I met with him," Liam said. That caught Brian's attention, who seemed immediately interested.

"When was this?"

"Earlier today. He said Carissa was still in town and gave me these photos of her with you." Liam gave the folder to Brian who frowned while looking at the photos.

"Looks like they were taken on the day she told me about Caleb."

Relieved at the fact that he didn't even hesitated to answer, I looked over to Liam who still was doubtful.

"What do you want to do?" Brian asked, sitting back on the sofa.

"Have him arrested." Liam took a seat next to me, his hand looking for mine immediately and eyes expectant on Brian.

"We can do that. I'm not sure we can do much about Carissa though. She hasn't physically threatened any of you and she never confessed slashing your tires."

"What if Caleb speaks up? Maybe he'll say what they've planned? Maybe-"

I stopped talking when Brian pressed his lips together, shaking his head with defeat. "Say he tell us everything, unless there is any proof connecting the both of them or she says something to incriminate herself during the interrogation there is nothing much we can do."

"So, we have to wait until she hurts someone in order to have her arrested," I sighed.

"No, of course not," Brian said with a sad smile. "We can keep an eye out for her, I can try to look for her but like I said, the only one we can press charges against at the moment is Caleb, for the kidnapping."

"I want the cops involved," Liam added after a few moments of silence. "I want them helping so I'm going to the station tomorrow morning, to get a fresh perspective on the case... I don't think you'll mind, would you?"

I picked up on the hint of threat in Liam's voice; it didn't seem to faze Brian. This situation was getting to our heads; we were afraid and with good reason but something told me that that was what Carissa and Caleb wanted. Perhaps they weren't even planning anything and were only toying with our mind; driving us insane with empty threats.

There was no way that Carissa would do something to harm Adrian. She cared about him as I'd seen when he disappeared. But what if it was all an act?

See, they're playing with your mind.

"I need to go to bed," I said, trying to shut off all the countless thoughts in my head. Both men looked at me, Brian with concern, Liam with understanding.

"I'll be there in a minute," Liam said. I waved a quick goodbye to Brian and thanked him before going to the bedroom.

If torturing us with mind games was their goal, it was working. Maybe it was even worse than physical harm. We were on edge all the time and had no peace; that had to be satisfying them. The excruciating unease we felt everyday was probably how they wanted us to live.

I fell asleep before Liam made it to the bedroom, and unlike before, now the night was full of nightmares of someone chasing me...

There was never a way out.

"Wake up. Delilah, baby, wake up, it's important."

My eyes flew open when I heard the word important. Liam was leaning over me on the bed, his hand cautiously stroking my belly. There was a combination of concern and relief in his eyes but I found myself unable to speak. I was too afraid of what he had to say.

"They've caught Caleb," he said with a small smile.

I gasped in surprise and then a smile formed on my lips at the news. It may not be a lot, but it was one less threat for us. One person less that was out to hurt us. Liam didn't look too pleased though; in fact, he was conflicted.

"What's wrong?" I asked, smoothing out a frown line on his forehead. "Isn't it good news?"

"It is," he whispered. "Does this ease your concern, Lilah?"

I nodded, placing a kiss on his lips. "It's going to get better, right? All this chaos is almost over."

"Yes, babe. It's all almost over."

The next few days were full of surprises and visits to the police station. We saw Brian almost every day which made for uncomfortable encounters for everyone. Liam was tolerating his presence a bit more and now both men had 'peaceful' but still tense interactions.

It was looking more and more like Caleb would be spending a long time in jail. From our conversations with Brian it wouldn't be over thirty years, still, that was good for us. Strangely enough, he was cooperating with the police, not causing any trouble. It wasn't surprising; the more he helped, the less time he'd spend behind bars.

Carissa, on the other hand, was no where to be found and Caleb kept his mouth shut in regards to her during police interrogations. All he would say was that she hadn't left, the same thing he had told Liam, and that he didn't know exactly what her intentions were. The cops took the information with a grain of salt, thinking it was just a way of him to try to lessen the blame on him.

My worry had lessened then, and I had convinced myself that she wasn't much of a threat. At least, I hoped she wasn't.

Liam didn't feel the same way though. Before, it was me who was constantly worried. Now it was him. It appeared that the fact that Caleb had been locked up made him more suspicious of everything and everyone. I didn't know what to do to ease his concern.

It was like he knew something would eventually happen that he wasn't telling me about. Sometimes when I would ask him about it, he'd brush it off and tell me that everything was okay, that he had a long day at work. Other days Liam would say that he just felt that something was wrong. Either way, it hurt me to know he wasn't at peace.

Even now, as we laid in bed naked and sated, there was questions hanging in the air. Questions that I didn't want to ask anymore due to the lack of answer. I smiled when he shifted us so that I would end up on my back, propping himself up with his arms so as to not bother my belly.

"I miss you being happy," I said quietly.

"I am happy," he replied, pressing a kiss on the tip of my nose. "I just worry with Carissa still around."

"No one has seen her," I reminded him, running my fingers through his hair. This was as much as he'd been willing to talk about the matter and I was going to take full advantage of it. "What worries you, Liam?"

He sighed, pulling himself off of me and sitting by my side. He brought the sheets down, exposing my very naked body, but his eyes settled on my bump, where I felt the baby move. He smiled, seeing the outline of the movement before stroking it.

"Caleb said we were making a mistake," he murmured.

"When did he say that?" I asked, ignoring how exposed I felt.

"After they caught him. He said that he wasn't planning anything, that it was all Carissa. And I don't know why, babe, but something tells me he's being honest. I think it's all Cariss and knowing that she's out there drives me fucking insane. I can't be with you and Adrian 24/7 as much as I wish I could."

I gave him a small smile. "We'll be fine, Liam. It was a mind game that she was playing, that's it."

I leaned down, placing a kiss on my belly. "I hope you're right, Delilah. I really do."
