DELILAH

"Everything looks wonderful," Doctor Murphy smiled, looking up at the image of our nearly fourteen week baby on the screen. "Look at those little limbs forming," she laughed.

"It is a boy or a girl?" Adrian asked, jumping up and down. "Can I know? Pleeeeeaaaseeeee? My birthday was last week, so pleeeeasseeee."

Liam chuckled, squeezing my hand in his before and placing the other on Adrian's shoulder. "We have to wait a few more weeks for that."

"We can if you'd like," the doctor said, looking back at us. I glanced back at Liam who simply nodded towards me, letting me know I had the final word.

"Please," I said.

"Okay, let's see if the little one will cooperate." She shifted the probe a few times and then directed her attention to Adrian.

"Well, big guy, how do you feel about a little brother?"

Adrian's eyes widened with pure joy and excitement as did Liam's, who leaned down and kissed me. I smiled against his lips, feeling more than blessed, forgetting the hell that the past weeks and months had been.

"I was secretly hoping it would be a boy. Girls are too weird," Adrian said.

"Typical boy," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Now, the baby is measuring a bit smaller than usual, you just have to eat a bit more, stay well nourished okay? Whatever you eat, the baby gets."

I nodded, flashing the doctor a huge smile. "Thank you for everything, I mean it."

"Of course. Now, lets get you cleaned up so you all can go celebrate."

"Uh, can I ask a couple of questions before we leave?"

Both Doctor Murphy and Liam raised their eyebrows in surprise, but Liam stepped out, leaving me alone with her.

We ate back at the pier, planning out the trip that I insisted we take. On the morning of his birthday, Liam and I had surprised our now eight year old with a birthday cake and an array of LEGO toys to build. I'd also become aware that even though Adrian had originally wanted to leave the city for a weekend, they'd decided to otherwise for my sake. I didn't want that. We'd been through so much and we deserved a weekend out.

It wasn't possible to leave that very weekend, so we opted for waiting until after my doctors appointment so that we'd know everything was okay and so that my parents could join us as well.

Liam was excited he was getting another boy in the family, and I was just glad that our baby was healthy. I nuzzled into Liam's neck, an arm wrapping around my shoulders. Adrian was too entertained coloring on the kid's menu given to him to notice the PDA.

"Any names for our little boy?" He asked, kissing my head.

"No, not yet," I smiled, placing a kiss on his throat.

I felt him tense, and I kissed him again, nipping lightly at his skin.

"What are you doing?" He whispered.

"Kissing you," I murmured.

He looked down, his lips forming a crooked smile when he saw my teasing expression. "What are you thinking, Delilah?"

"Can't say here."

Liam chuckled, bringing his lips to mine, humming quietly. "Well, we'll see tonight?"

With the doctor giving the all clear for sex, I was looking forward to being with him. Perhaps it was the need to forget everything or the hormones, but I needed to feel loved... wanted. My cheeks flushed at the not so lady-like thoughts invading my mind.

Hopefully tonight was the night.

"You're lying," Liam breathed, a raised eyebrow daring me to contradict him.

"I'm not," I defended myself.

He shook his head, clearly not believing a single word leaving my mouth.

"I just don't understand why you're lying to me," he muttered.

"I'm not, Liam. Why don't you-?"

"Mom, dad, can one of you just put a card down? It's just an UNO game and all we're winning is candy."

Liam chuckled, and dealt the red card that he had. He didn't believe that I I had no important cards which was good on him, especially considering the fact that, I did in fact, have the 'exchange cards' card. He didn't need to know that though. The game continued on until late in the evening and in the end, Liam and Adrian won two rounds each, but I got all the candy.

"What does it feel like to be eight?" I asked Adrian who cuddled up next to me, his hand on my belly.

"It's pretty cool," he said with a wide smile. "Now that I'm going to be a big brother it's like a double grown up responsibility."

"Are you excited for your little brother?" I asked. "There going to be a lot of changes when the baby comes."

"I know, but that's why I'm the big brother. To help with the changes. And I'm going to help him learn things that only I can teach him, so I'm excited."

"That's good," I replied.

"Come on, let's get you to bed, buddy. We leave early tomorrow morning and you won't want to wake up if you don't get some sleep."

Without hesitating, Adrian jumped on his feet and gave me a kiss on the cheek, and then rubbed my belly gently. "Good night momma, good night little brother!"

I stayed on the sofa, changing the different channels until I found one of the famous Taken movies while Liam put Adrian to bed. I heard the both of them laughing, making me smile as well. My son was happy and safe, that was all that mattered.

Once done, Liam sat next to me, placing his arm over my shoulders. I didn't give him a chance to back out when I straddled and placed my hands on his chest.

"What are you doing?" he asked, pulling me closer to him.

I replied by kissing him, a low sound left the back of his throat, eliciting a soft moan to leave mine. His lips would be my undoing, now and forever. I felt him grow hard beneath me, and took that to my advantage, kissing down his chiseled jaw and neck.

I gained another throaty groan from him when my hands  went down his chest, to his belt buckle, undoing it and lowering his zipper as fast as I could.

"Baby, we need to talk to your doc-"

"Already cleared," I whispered.

Kissing my way back up to his lips, I took him in my hand but he stopped me, grabbing my wrists in his hands. It had been far too long without us being together and I wanted, no, I needed him. Except, the look he gave me told me it may not happen after all.

"Are you sure you're ready for this?" Liam asked, his voice husky despite his attempt to hide it.

"Why wouldn't I be?"

Liam swallowed, and through the lust in his eyes I could also see the concern.

"You don't want me anymore?" I asked, feeling the cruel sting of rejection.

"Of course I do, baby. I just want to be sure you're ready after..." Liam trailed off with a sigh, running his hand through his hair. Just like that, the mood was broken, and I got off of him.

"Sorry, I should have know," I mumbled.

"It's not like that, Delilah," he said, taking my hand in his.

I knew it wasn't just like I knew he wasn't trying to hurt me. He was worried that it wouldn't be safe, or maybe he simply thought I wouldn't be able to handle having sex with him again.

He was doing it to protect me, when all I wanted was to be in his arms again.

Before I had the chance to tell him exactly that, however, someone knocked on the door. Just by the impact, I could tell who it was. I saw him opening the door, hesitating before he let Brian in.

"Hey, sorry," Brian said, walking inside when Liam stepped aside. He shot me an apologetic look, one that I returned. We hadn't seen each other since that kiss and just being around him was quite uncomfortable.

Liam's gaze flew between the both of us, sensing the awkwardness in the room.

"Uh, something come up?" Liam asked, fixing his eyes on him.

Brian cleared his throat. "Eh, yeah, actually. Carissa contacted me a few days ago, saying that Caleb was around."

"She contacted you too?" I asked, finally standing up and addressing him.

"She did, actually. Seemed concerned," Brian said, avoiding eye contact with me.

I hated that this was the situation. I had grown fond of him, considered him a friend, more than anything trusted Brian, and now that friendship was strained. No matter how much he tried to hide his feelings, I could see them now, clear as day. There was no way I could reciprocate them.

Love can't be forced.

And sadly, forgetting someone really can't be forced either.

"Did she give you any hints as to where he is, or where she saw him?" Liam asked, trying to ignore the tension in the room.

"She mentioned he was around Adrian's school, and that's why she showed up there. We're revising videos from local shops around the school to see whether or not it's true." Brian sighed, running his hands over his face. "He's proving difficult to find, I'm not quite sure why."

"Did you check the surveillance videos for the school?" I asked.

Liam took my hand in his, giving a gentle squeeze. I tried to ignore the clenching of Brian's jaw and how he looked away for a few seconds, but I couldn't.

"We did, couldn't find anything there," he replied, his voice stern.

"That's good then, right?" Brian's lips tilted up in a small smile when he heard the hint of hope in my tone. "I mean, maybe Carissa is wrong."

"Yeah, maybe she is," he said.

Silence engulfed us, Liam once again gazing between both Brian and I.

"I should get going," Brian said after a few seconds.

"Thanks for the information," Liam said, more than eager to get him out of the house.

"Yeah, no problem." Brian shifted on his feet, before letting out a long, deep breath. "Listen, uh, I hope what happened didn't cause problems between you two. It wasn't Delilah's fault and..."

Oh, no no no no no no.

"...thinking straight when it happened. Like I said though, she didn't kiss me back."

Oh shit.

Liam didn't say anything, but his brown eyes darkened even more as he let go of my hand. In that moment, I regretted not telling him before. Maybe I should have, I just wanted to avoid any issues, any unnecessary arguments.

"When was this?" Liam asked, his attention focused on me now.

"The day you wen't back to work, after the miscarriage," I whispered.

"Oh shit... You didn't know?" Brian said. "Fuck, Delilah, I'm-"

It all happened so fast after that.

One second Liam was next to me and the next, he was grabbing Brian by the collar of his shirt and slamming him against the wall.

"You mean to fucking tell me that the day I trusted you to keep her company, to fucking help her, you took advantage and kissed her?" Liam hissed.

Oh no.

This was not good.

Not good at all.
