They ran at a fast pace back to the streets they had been searching, observing as they went, but eager to rejoin the hunt. Felicity naturally started leading the way once again and Johnny and Sigur stuck with them, at least for the time being. They spread out a little bit as they moved along the streets, doing their best to stay in the shadows.

Chloe looked into restaurants and stores as they went by, but saw only humans within. None of them saw anything as they moved along. Finally they stopped to regroup and discuss their next move.

"Why don't I see any vampires inside?" asked Chloe.

"Just a fluke," said Johnny. "Although, it is true that vampires cannot enter someone's home without their consent, any other establishment is completely open to them. It might be a little early yet for them to head indoors. Maybe we should chill for a little while and hit the clubs if nobody else finds the target before club time," he suggested.

"Killing a target in a club can be a bit risky, don't you think?" asked Felicity.

"Killing, yes. But getting information from them is easier in crowded places. You can whisper to them in a club and they can still hear you," replied Sigur.

Chloe and Felicity looked at them with surprise. "Talking? What in the world do you talk to targets about?" asked Felicity. "It's completely against the rules."

"Rules... what is the saying," said Sigur, "Rules are meant to be broken, ya?"

Chloe snorted in pleasure. "I like you, Sigur," she said with a laugh. "You are my kind of guy. The only thing is, I need this kill tonight so that I can get in good with the Pope. That guy hates my guts." Chloe whispered as she looked around for CCTV.

"I hate to tell you that you are not unique in your situation," said Sigur. "The Pope does not like any of us... except maybe for Jessica. It's just more noticeable with you because you are so obvious about hating him back. He's not used to it, so he shows his distaste for you more plainly."

Chloe thought about this. "He hates everybody? Does everybody hate him?" she asked.

"Not only that, many are suspicious of him," Johnny whispered with a look of apprehension. "There are whispers that he is actually a vampire himself."

"And it gets better," Sigur interrupted in an excited whisper, "some people say that he fakes his own death every twenty years or so and then just gets himself back into power... but the power of the Pope's office is always in his hands."

"Who is 'some people'?" asked Felicity with a confused look on her face. "I've never heard anything like this before." Johnny and Sigur both looked embarrassed. "Some people is just you two, isn't it?"

"How would the Pope ever touch Holy Water if he was a vampire?" countered Chloe.

"He wears gloves," replied Sigur.

"Sun exposure?" asked Felicity.

"He's so old that the sun can only tan him...?" said Johnny hopefully.

"And if you think about it, only his face is ever exposed to the sun. The rest of him is completely covered," added Sigur.

Felicity scoffed, "Weak, but nice try. Your theory just doesn't work."

"Maybe we can run it by Quinn," thought Chloe out loud.

Felicity looked at Chloe with incredulity. "You have got to be kidding me," she hissed. "Don't encourage these two. The Pope is not a vampire."

They suddenly heard very faint footsteps around the corner. They stopped their discussion abruptly and looked at each other with questioning eyes. Felicity pointed to Johnny and Sigur to go back the way they'd come and go around the other side of the block. They headed off and Felicity and Chloe started to move silently towards the corner. Chloe drew her gun in anticipation of a confrontation.

As they approached the corner, they saw another pair of Red Guards across the street. Jessica had a cross bow drawn and the scope was focused on something to her right. Her partner, Gerty, was peeking out from behind a newspaper dispenser. She held a gun in her hand, but was sitting with her back against the dispenser with the gun held up in her hands against her chest. She stretched to her right to peer around the metal frame.

Chloe saw Jessica lick her lower lip as she focused on the figure within her scope. She knew this was Jessica's tell and that she was about to pull the trigger. She watched with fascination as she squeezed and the bolt let fly swiftly and almost silently through the air. Chloe heard the bolt make contact and then fall to the ground with a clatter.

Jessica let out a whoop as she ran forward to collect her bolt from the pile of dust that now lay on the sidewalk. Chloe and Felicity came quickly around the corner to see Jessica kick the dust into different directions, almost like a dance. They saw Sigur and Johnny run around the other corner further up the street.

"You almost beat me!" called Jessica with the light of victory fresh in her eyes. "I swear, I thought you were going to scare it off as you came, but then you stopped. I couldn't believe my luck!"

Felicity had the grace to smile as she approached Jessica to congratulate her. "Nice work, Jessica! I can't believe your aim with that thing!" Jessica held up her bow and admired it. She loves that weapon, thought Chloe.

"Thanks, Felicity! You were so close," Jessica said.

Jessica's partner came jogging up to them with a happy look on her face. She patted Jessica on the shoulder with pride. "Nice work, Jess." Jessica bowed her head in acknowledgement. She pulled out her phone to let the others know the hunt was over.

It didn't take long for the rest of the group to join them and they started to head back to the Vatican after some celebratory cheers. They all looked tired, and Chloe noticed that it was well after midnight. They'd all been up since the wee hours of the morning and they were exhausted. It was time for bed, you could see it as they all dragged their feet.

Chloe thought about the boy laying on the medical table with Quinn at his side and picked up her pace a little bit without even realizing. She forced herself to slow down to walk with her friends. Her pace matched their's easily as she reflected on the fact she hadn't even known the target's name. And now, she didn't exist.
