As if on cue, Adam stepped into the classroom, looking as dangerous and gorgeous as ever, followed by two companions. As they walked in, everyone hushed and parted like the Red Sea to let them through. The first one had bright blue hair and turquoise eyes. His ghostly pale skin and white teeth glistened. He wore a Cheshire grin and carried undeniable confidence on his shoulders. The one next to him was at least two heads taller. He was stocky and strongly built and had espresso brown hair. He wore a baseball cap, but you could still see his attractive features. Leading the two was Adam.

My eyes were then drawn to their dog tags.

Blue Hair: #3

Baseball Cap: #4

And of course, Adam: #1

Where was number two?

"Here comes the famous trio." I heard Ruby chuckle under her breath, which was when I noticed that as soon as they walked in, everyone's attention had been drawn to them. Fear, admiration, envy; you could feel a mixture of emotions fill the students' eyes.

"What's he doing here?" I grumbled, my eyes somehow only glued to Adam.

Vadim snickered. "We have class together, what do you think?"

I realized how dumb my question sounded and sunk into my chair, trying to relax my jaw. I tried not to stare, but how could I not? Adam was handsome. No, he was drop-dead gorgeous. With looks like that, he could steal any girl's heart. Adam's piercing gaze stopped at me and I felt a twinge between my thighs. Annoyed at my own reaction, I dropped my gaze, but I could still feel his eyes on me. I pressed my cheek into my palm and lowered my face, hoping he'd stop staring. But of course, my wishes weren't executed, and a tall shadow dawned over me.

Great. This was just what I needed.

I had no other choice but to look up. The boy with blue hair leaned in with an arrogant grin. Despite his smile, something about him felt intimidating.

"Hey, you're kinda cute. What's your name?" he asked.

I glanced at Ruby and Vadim who didn't look like they wanted to get involved. I couldn't blame them considering how high these guys' ranks were.

"Axis," I replied, ignoring Adam's gaze.

"Axis," he mused. "From one to ten, how good are your blowies?"

I stiffened at his question.

"What?"

He placed his hand against the surface of my table and leaned closer to my face and I was instantly struck by his eyes. Large, gold, and rimmed with something darker. It was like the entire sky was captivated by two orbs.

This guy was bad news, and the mischief in his round eyes sent chills down my spine. A corner of his mouth hiked up.

"I'm asking how good your blowjobs are," he said. "You're going to need to learn how to use that mouth. Weaklings like you don't survive long around here, but I'll treat you real nice if you can score higher than a five."

I blinked blankly, then burst into laughter.

"I've never given a blowjob before. I'm pretty sure that's your expertise," I smirked.

I ignored the gasps around me. Blue Hair didn't seem the least bit annoyed. In fact, he seemed even more amused.

"Oh boy, you're going to be fun to toy with," Blue Hair chuckled. He glanced at Adam. "Hey, you don't mind if I play with him?"

My eyes locked with Adam's eyes.

"Do whatever you want, just don't get me involved," he said. His deep, smooth voice sounded bored. He basically said he didn't give a damn if I became his friend's new play toy, so why the hell did I find his voice so sexy?

He walked away without another word. My jaw tightened. I didn't know why I was disappointed by his answer. Did I expect him to get protective over me? No way, you're on your own Axis. You've always been on your own... But shit, why did that kind of hurt?

"You hear that? You and I are going to have lots of fun. My name is Styx. The tall, quiet guy behind me is Brock, and I'm pretty sure you already know Adam. You'll be seeing us quite often," Styx chirped, giving me a lazy wave before walking off with his friend. I glanced at Brock who had an expressionless face. I realized that his expression hadn't changed since he'd stepped in. I wasn't even sure if he had even blinked. They walked away, and the tension in the air faded.  The tension in the air slowly faded.

"You have bad luck, roommate," Vadim said, shaking his head. "Attracting all the sharks and even the pakhan (boss)."

"Who are they?" I asked.

"Styx is known for being an obmanshchik."

"A what?"

"A trickster," Ruby translated.

"What she said," grunted Vadim.

"You speak Russian?"

"No, but you learn a word or two eventually," she shrugged.

"I wouldn't trust Styx with even a penny. Big liar and cheater," Vadim mumbled. "I wouldn't even trust him with a penny. Big liar and cheater," Vadim continued. "He was sent to self-confinement for hacking into the school's system and altering everyone's grades. We knew the grades were completely rigged when Peter got straight A's on his report card. He also stole a teacher's credit card information. We all knew it was him, but they couldn't punish him because they didn't have enough proof. You won't find a better hacker than Styx. Brock doesn't talk, but that's because he's mute."

Ruby chuckled. "But you don't want to get on his bad side. Those arms and legs aren't bulky for nothing."

"People say he has weird obsessions and hobbies. I don't know what, but I don't think I want to know," Vadim said with a scowl.

"Weird obsessions?"

Murder? Theft? Watching his enemies slowly burn alive in a bonfire?

"Yeah, like quiet kids who stay in the back. He likes scars, fire, and I heard he's into beetles nowadays."

"Like the band?"

Vadim put his hand on my shoulder.

"I fear you won't survive long here," he said.

"Are you gay?" Ruby asked, directing her attention to me. My back straightened at her question.

"No?"

Vadim smirked and I shot him a glare.

"No, as in no-no or no as in maybe no?" Ruby inquired.

"What?"

"It could be an 'I don't know' no," Vadim added.

"Hey, I don't judge," she said, pulling up her sleeve and showing me the interlocked gender symbol on her wrist. "I fuck with girls and boys, so I was just wondering."

She glanced at the trio, looked at me, then pursed her lips. "Though I don't know if you have much of a choice."

Before I could protest, the teacher walked in. And when I said teacher, I meant a young woman with long blond hair wearing a white mini-skirt and blazer.

"Alright, class is about to start," she said, and the boys quickly hustled to their seats, their eyes shaped like hearts. She began doing roll call, and my eyes slowly shifted to Adam. My eyes trailed up his arm, recognizing the faded scars that were now hardly visible. I had to rip my eyes away from the patchwork of carved muscles on his arms.

To my surprise, he stared back. I tried to keep my face as neutral as I could, waiting for him to look away. But he wouldn't, and I refused to give in first. Well, until the teacher called my name.

"Axis," the teacher called. I raised my hand.

"Here."

Right when my name was called, Adam lost interest. I wasn't the person he thought I was. I never loved the name Axis as much as right now. Class started and to my surprise, it wasn't as hard as I thought. I almost felt smart. Well, that wasn't saying much considering that we were learning middle school math in high school. It was a class for idiots. At least I didn't feel left out.

But my eyes kept wandering towards Adam. He's really gotten more handsome, hasn't he? Shit, he looks fucking great. So many questions popped into my mind, unanswered questions that I asked myself every day for years. But the biggest feeling I felt was relief. I had lost touch with him years ago, but he was alive. And for some reason, all my anger and hatred for him washed away, replaced by relief. He was safe and looked more or less okay.

I'm glad he's okay.

I bit the inner corner of my mouth.

Damn, I still have a soft spot for him.

I got lost in my thoughts, and Adam caught me staring again.

Shit.

He narrowed his eyes. The sudden curiosity in his eyes disappeared, replaced with coldness and annoyance. The hopeful look in his eyes was completely gone. Was it because I wasn't Eric?

He looked me dead in the eye and gave me the nastiest (and sexiest) smirk I've ever seen and flicked me a middle finger.

I flinched and quickly looked away, feeling heat travel up my neck. It was as if the angelic Adam was replaced by a devil. I felt my heart sink into the pit of my stomach.

What happened to the innocent kid who used to cry in my arms?!
