Brooke's POV

Our girls night out was amazing and went by too fast.

As soon as Cayleigh woke up from her nap at school, I excitedly told her about our plans for the evening. And just like I expected, she was thrilled to have Mya come along with us.

Later on in the day, Cayleigh and Alex came up to me and asked if Alex could tag along with us. I was all for it, but I didn't know if Alex's parents would agree. I think in their eyes, the only true relation I have to Cayleigh is as her teacher and being father's girlfriend. Not her mother. They're wide eyes pretty much confirmed that when they heard Cayleigh call me mommy last week.

However, even though I totally hate rejection, I thought of my daughter's happiness over my impending embarrassment, and asked them anyways when they came to pick Alex up. And to my surprise, they actually agreed to let me take her.

"Really," I asked in bewilderment.

Alex's mother laughed at the expression I had on my face. "Of course. Alex loves spending time with Cayleigh."

"But...what about the part of her being out with me." I said, still in shock. "You actually trust me taking your daughter out?"

"Of course I do." She playfully hit my shoulder. "Alex adores you. She talks about you all the time. And plus!" She put on a serious face. "It's not like I wouldn't know where to find you if something where to happen to her."

The look she was giving me had me on the verge of being like, sorry Cayleigh, looks like Alex's gotta stay home tonight. But then she started laughing. "I'm kidding. Oh gosh, you should really see your face right now."

My face? Lady, you should have seen the look on your face. I was just about to sit down and start writing my eulogy as soon as you left.

I gave her a nervous smile before getting the details on when and where I'd be able to pick Alex up. At the end of my work day, I packed Cayleigh into the car, picked up our two extra attendees for tonight's festivities, then drove to our first destination, the restaurant.

For dinner we ate at Olive Garden. Cayleigh and I share an unhealthy love for pasta, so going there was a must. It also didn't hurt that we get an unlimited supply of free breadsticks, which just so happen to be Cayleigh's second favorite food.

When we all finished eating, we made our way to the second half of our date, the movie theater, even though I was beyond full and on the verge of being immobile. Note to self: next time eat dinner after watching the movie. I should have known better than to eat pasta knowing I wasn't going to be able to take a nap immediately after doing so.

At our local movie theater, every once in a while, they'll show an old movie that already came out. This week that movie was How To Train Your Dragon. As a fellow Dragons fan, my excitement became untamable. I swear, it looked like I was the child of the group.

"Oh my God! Look! They're showing Dragons," I energetically shouted while rushing over to the film's poster.

"What's that," Cayleigh questioned following me in tow.

"It's a movie about a boy who finds a dragon and makes him his pet."

    "Like a doggy?"

    "Yep. Well...kinda."

"I have a doggy," Alex added. "His name's Bolt."

"What's that boy's dryjen's name," Cayleigh asked me.

    "Toothless."

The both of them started giggling, infectiously making both Mya and I start laughing along with them. "That's a weird name," Cayleigh said in between laughs.

    "I know right," Alex agreed.

I wanted to tell them there was a reason for his name. But I also don't want to ruin that part of the movie for them, if some time in their life they decide they want to watch it. Even if it is a small part.

"Is that the one you wanna pick, mommy," Cayleigh asked me as if she was the one taking me out.

"Oh no, Princess," I replied. "You and Alex pick. What movie do you guys wanna watch?"

They started to speak in their telepathic language, which usually includes a lot of head nods, eyebrow movements, and facial expressions. They communicate with each other like that a lot. Especially at school. A few times, I've been able to pick up what they were saying, but most of the time I end up failing at deciphering their conversation.

Cayleigh pointed to the movie poster and looked over at Alex. Alex then shrugged at it in response. Cayleigh proceeded by pointing to the group of other film posters next to it. And once again Alex shrugged. They both stood there for a few seconds just staring at each other and shrugging back and forth, until finally Alex tipped her head in the direction of the How To Train Your Dragon poster.

"Okay, mommy. That's the one we wanna watch," Cayleigh said while pointing at the Dragons poster.

"Really?" I questioned her in a calm and natural voice but internally I was actually jumping up and down.

    What? It's a great movie!

"Should I be concerned with how overly excited you are inside right now," Mya teased.

"Shut up," I mouthed to her making her laugh.

The night went extremely smoothly from then on. The girls loved the movie. Not as much as me, though, I'm sure. I was trying very hard to limit the amount of time I told Cayleigh 'watch this part' just before something exciting happened.

The night got even better when we got a couple of texts from Cayden half way through the film.

He can be mad cute when he wants to be. I swear, I don't know how he's never had a girlfriend before. He fits the boyfriend role down to a tee.

After the movie was done, we made our way back to the car and headed off to Alex's house. It was already after 10:30 and both girls had their fill of comfort food, snacks, and fun tonight, meaning they would be easy to put down to sleep.

When we arrived at Alex's house, both Cayleigh and I walked her to the door. Luckily, both the movie we had watched and the movie that we originally planned to see was around the same time because I told Alex's mom we'd probably be dropping her off by 11:00.

Before we even got the chance to knock, the door opened with both of her parents standing behind it. We conversed a little about how much fun we had and ended it by telling them goodnight and thanking them for letting us take Alex out. They joked by thanking us for taking her out of their hairs for the night.

Now we were driving back to the dorms to drop off Mya before we made our way to the house. Cayleigh's been knocked out in the backseat for a good five minutes now, just like I thought she'd be. Hopefully after she showers, she's still going to be tired and not wide awake.

In the past five minutes, after of course I made sure Cayleigh was unconscious to the world, I told Mya all about my trip back to Hawaii. In doing so, it also led me to having to tell her about my past with Maddox, Maddie, and Angel.

"Daaaamn, girl." She shook her head at me. "They suck! All three of them. They all suck equally."

    "You're telling me."

"No wonder you used to keep me at arms length." She started to shake her head. "Gosh! You're a hell of a lot stronger person than I am. Lord forbid that ever happens to me. But if it does, I don't think I'd be able to make any friends at all after that."

"I honestly didn't plan on making any either." I reached out to her face and jokingly cradled her cheek in my hand. "But somehow you wormed yourself right through the cracks of my broken heart."

She laughed at me. "Yep. Worming my way into people's hearts must be my superpower."

It must be if she convinced Theo to settle down. From what I've heard, Theo used to get around more than Jake does.

"I'm pretty sure Theo knows he's got a good one, babe!"

"Yeah," she responded with a sad smile. I was just about to ask her what that was all about but than she reverted the conversation back to mine and Maddox's break up. "Did he ever tell you why he did it?"

"Yeah," I nodded. "Apparently, it started with a drunk blow job. Then they hooked up a few times after that because she was blackmailing him by saying she was going to tell me about everything that happened between them."

"Wow." She her eyes widened in disbelief. "She's some human being," she said sarcastically. "Please tell me you also see the irony in her name being Angel."

"Yep. That's why I call her Lucifer now."

    "Like to her face?"

"Yeah. Why not? I'm not afraid of her." I shrugged. "And I already proved that I can kick her ass."

"True," she agreed. She grabbed the aux cord from the middle compartment and plugged it into the radio. "I know what'll make you feel better about that whole situation."

    "What?"

She scrolled through her phone for a couple seconds than finally clicked on her screen. The song, I Fall Apart by Post Malone started to play.

"She told me that I'm not enough," she started to sing, imitating Posty's sad voice. "And she left me with a broken heart." She put her hand over her heart, for dramatic effect I guess.

"How exactly is this supposed to make me feel better about walking in on my ex boyfriend having sex with my ex best friend," I confusedly asked.

"I don't know," she shrugged. "I just thought listening to it would show you how someone else was treated by their ex. Then maybe you'd end up feeling better. Either that or it'd make you see that exes fucking suck. No matter the category."

An unexpected laugh left my mouth. "I hate you so fucking much right now."

"See! You're laughing. I told you I could make you feel better." I pushed her shoulder, making her hit the car door. "Too bad, though. I was hoping you'd still be upset. That way you could use all those emotions as inspiration to write a song about him then become famous so I could bum off of you for the rest of my life."

"Shut up," I continued to laugh.

That's my best friend for you. Can you see why it was so easy for me let her in? Even after promising myself that I'd never have another girl best friend.

With that being said, I can honestly say the world would be a better place if everyone had a Mya in their life.
