Foxete's POV:

I walk into the party in my suit. I refused to wear that god awful dress. Naturally, I got some weird glances and whispers, but nothing I wasn't already used to. What can I say, I'm good conversation. The party was inside the castle's "ballroom". It was massive with arches for natural light. The night sky on this planet was a sort of magenta as the moon shone bright red. Arie and Ru walked in with me. Arie was also in a suit. Damien took Ru's hand and ran off. Arie finds Ophelia and they quickly rush off. I scoff, no surprise. I sigh and lean up against a wall to wait for the Princess. I used to love parties when I was younger. That's weird to say... it was only three years ago. But my life changed so much since then... I see a shadow pass my left eye. I jump up and my hand immediately goes to my waist where my gun would be only for me to realize I don't have it.
"Woah, calm down there." Keeva walks over.
"Was that you?" I ask.
She frowns, "What?"
"The shadow...." I trail off, "Probably just..."
"Imagination?" Keeva sighs.
I nod, "I'm just... unsettled."
"I get it." Keeva smiles, "Try to relax! It's your girlfriends birthday party."
I laugh, "Yeah. Relax."
Keeva punches my shoulder lightly and walks off towards Kip. I look outside the ballroom onto the patio. There's a shadow out there. Almost wanting me to follow it. Illoha is starting her speech soon. You can't wander off. I tell myself. I try to turn my head back to the stage where Kreko sat, but I found myself repeatedly turning to look at the shadow.
It'll only be a minute.
I walk into the patio. The shadow doesn't move. I become aware that I don't have any weapons with me. Let's hope they aren't dangerous. I walk forward timidly. As I approach the shadows more, the figure moves away. I hear footsteps behind me, so I look back. Nothing.

"I'm going crazy." I laugh.
I hear Illoha's voice from inside. The speech.
I groan and go back inside, but not before I look back into the shadows again. Nothing. Someone taps my shoulder and I turn to face them quickly.
"You okay?" Dex asks frowning.
"Yeah." I nod, trying to hide my paranoia.
"What happened." He replies seriously.
Guess I failed.
"Just thought I saw something. Think I'm going crazy." I laugh.
"You missed Illoha's speech." He sighs.
I couldn't even hear it from outside...
"Yeah... whoops?" I sigh.
"Whoops is right." Illoha appears behind him crossing her arms, "Where were you?"
"Ghost hunting." Dex chuckles.
I smack him on the arm.
"You're joking." Illoha raises her eyebrows.
"Well..." I hesitate.
Joke about it or worry her with your paranoia?
I think I'll take the ladder.
"I zoned off while I was waiting." I smile apologetically.
"Keeva said you went outside. Try again." She chuckles.
I open my mouth but quickly shut it at a lack of words.
"I have no idea what I was doing." I exhale, "Sorry Princess."
She knew I was lying, but she didn't press on. I was honestly just imagining this mystery figure.
"Well, it is my birthday party, so I should probably go and... mingle." Illoha rolls her eyes, "You are coming with me, captain." She smirks and grabs my arm.
"Pray for me Dex." I groan and follow her.
