Matt's POV

I walked into my apartment after work that day. I was so annoyed with myself for letting Anna get to me.

I needed a drink.

I dropped my bag in the parlour and went to the kitchen only to find Martha there. It's been a while since I've seen Martha.

She turned round to look at me. She was clearly surprised to see me.
"Mr O'Connell. You're home? Is there a problem?" She asked

"No. Why?"

"You never come home this early. Except when Ms. Anna was still here"

I clenched my jaw at the mention of the devil's name. I went to the fridge to get a drink. Then I remembered I hadn't thanked Martha for the cake.
"Martha, thank you for the birthday cake. It was unusually delicious. It was different from the other cakes you made"

"Oh...I'd love to take credit for that but it was Ms. Anna who made it. Such a sweet woman. She said she wanted to surprise you with your favourite chocolate cake. She made it all by herself..."

That was it. She always found a way to get to me.
In the office. At home. Everywhere.

"Martha, I never want to hear her name in this house ever again"

She was clearly shocked.

"Is that clear?"

She composed herself "Of course sir" she nodded

I made my way upstairs.

Anna's POV

"Here's your coffee" I placed it on the customer's table "Enjoy" I smiled

"Thank you" she said before I made my way back behind the counter.

I heard the bell ring as someone walked into Kat's.

"What can I get for..." I looked up to find myself face-to-face with Elsa.

"Hello Anna" she smiled "Can we talk?"

My heart raced a little.

What was wrong?

Was Matt hurt?

Was he in danger?

Did he get into an accident?

"I have a few minutes to spare" I said

"Ok" she walked to an empty table at the end of Kat's.

I followed her and sat opposite her. Thank God for my apron. It concealed my three months old baby bump.

"What's up?" I asked

She looked at me suspiciously "I should be asking you that"

I raised my brow.

What exactly does she know?

"I bumped into Kat a few days ago and she told me everything that happened between you and Matt"

I turned my head "She shouldn't have"

"Why not? Because he's my brother?"

"Yes. Because he's your brother...and no one should tell you that your brother is a..."

"...a fool. An asshole. A jerk. He is all that and even more for not believing you." She paused and sighed "But I know my brother, he wouldn't have concluded that without a solid reason"

"What reason is there? I never cheated on him. I was never with him cause of his money. I don't know what else can justify his action"

"I didn't say you cheated on him or was with him because of his money. What I'm saying is someone would have made him believe that you did cheat on him and the later"

I didn't say a thing for a while.

"Who would do that?" I asked

"Someone who doesn't want you with him"

Silence

"Can you think of anyone who wouldn't want you to be with him?"

"No one would..." I paused and thought of Nick

Elsa smiled "Who?"

I looked at her "Nick talked to me a few days before Matt and I broke up"

"What did he talk to you about?"

I told her everything. She told me she'll look into it and I shouldn't worry about it and she was gonna fix this misunderstanding between Matt and I.

I sighed after she left. As much as I'm gonna kill Kat for telling her behind my back. I was happy she didn't tell Elsa that she was gonna be an aunt.

Elsa's POV

Yesterday after talking with Anna, I realized that she was still so in love with my brother.

I'm gonna kill him any chance I get for destroying her. Anna was so fun when she was with Matt. Now she just looked like she was hanging on because of something she didn't want to lose and it definitely isn't Matt cause he broke up with her.

I made my way into O'CE. The receptionist greeted me as I walked into the lobby. I entered the elevator and made my way to Matt's floor.

As the elevator dinged open I walked into the lobby and towards his door where his secretary was sitted.
She got up when she saw me.

"Good morning Ms. O'Connell. Mr. O'Connell isn't around"

"Where is he?"

"I don't know. He called me this morning to clear his schedule for today"

Serves him right. Let him think of Anna all day long and let his heart break even more for the damage he has done to her.

As much as I love my brother. He went to far this time. He was so happy when he was with her and now he behaves like he wishes to be dead than alive.

"Do you know if Nick is around?" I asked her

"Yes, Mr. Cooper got in about an hour ago"

"Thank you" I smiled at her and made my way into the elevator to Nick's floor.

Nick's Secretary greeted me as I made my way inside his office. He was studing some documents behind his desk. He looked up at me.

"Elsa?" Something flashed in his eyes. Something creepy.

I walked towards his desk "Nick"

"What a pleasant surprise" he came round to kiss my cheek

"I doubt that"

Silence.

"Have a seat please" he went back round his desk and sat after I did "What brings you to my office this early?"

"It's about Matt"

"I see" I saw the same look I saw in his eyes when I walked inside. "What about him?"

"He has not been himself since he broke up with Anna. He hasn't said a word to you about it has he?"

"Not a single word" he said

"But do you know why he broke up with..."

His phone rang. He looked at the caller.

"I'm sorry Elsa but I have to take this in the board room. It's very important"

"Oh..."

"Can you wait?"

"Sure" I said as he made his way outside his office.

I sighed.

Matt, what's going on? What happened?

I got up to take a look round Nick's. I was near his table when my hand slightly pushed a brown envelope towards the edge of the table and the content slipped out. I bent to pick it up. I picked the first one then the second. Then I turned it to see what it was. To my surprise it was a picture of Anna sitting with a guy in a restaurant. I looked closer at the guy. He looked familiar.
I picked everything up to look at them and they were similar. Another was of Anna hugging the same guy who was with her in the restaurant infront of Kat's. Then his face clicked. I saw him the day Kat and I talked. He was with her and she introduced him as her boyfriend.

I stood up and took one of the photo to put in my bag. Then as I tried to put the rest into the envelope, they weren't fully entering, then I picked the envelope and found that it was heavy. I emptied it and saw a recorder and a tape. I opened it to put the tape inside only to find one already there. I closed it and pushed the play button.

The next thing I heard surprised me. It was Anna's voice. She was talking to someone. The person spoke and it was Nick's voice. Then I remembered that Anna said Nick spoke to her a few days before the break up. But what she told me the conversation was about was different from this one.

I stoped it and opened it. I switch the tape inside with the other one. I played it. I listened for a while.

What the heck.

This one was exactly what Anna said they talked about. The other one was edited and cropped out.

Did Nick do this?

I put the recorder and the tape into my bag and left his office.

"Tell Nick that I had to leave" I told his assistant

"Yes ma'am"

I made my way out of O'CE and to Matt's apartment.

Matt's POV

I called Martha today and told her to take the day off. She told me that she had taken enough days off and she didn't need anymore. But I told her I need to be alone. She understood and took my offer.

Then I called my secretary and told her to clear my schedule for today that I wouldn't be coming for work.

I was gonna sulk today.

A few hours later, I was drunk. I heard my door unlock. Only two people had my key Anna and Elsa. Anna dropped hers when she left so that leaves one person...

"Matt?" I heard my sister call

"Matt?!" She yelled.

Gee! Could she yell any louder.

"I'm right here. You don't need to yell so freaking loud"

"Matt" she noticed me on the floor "Oh my God Matt, what did you do to yourself?"

"Nothing. What are you doing in my house?"

"Wanted to talk to you?"

"About what?"

"The break up"

"Did that gold digging bitch send you here?"

"Matt! Don't you dare call her that"

"What? That's exactly what she is. I call it like I see it"

"Well in your case you call it like you hear it"

"What are you talking about?" I was feeling dizzy

"It's all a lie Matt. Whatever Nick showed you was a lie. Anna never..."

I guess I slept off there cause that was the last thing I heard Elsa say.

When I woke up. I was on my bed and it was almost midnight. I managed to get up even with my throbbing head. I went to the bathroom and splashed water on my face.

"Serves you right" I heard my sister say

"You haven't left"

"Not without you listening to what I have to say"

"About that..."

"Don't you even dare call her that name"

"Whatever. I don't waste my time on unimportant things" I made my way to the kitchen. Elsa followed closely behind.

"I know you still love her Matt and I know your heart is broken because of what you think she did and what you think she said"

"Not what I think she said. What I heard her say" I clarified and went in search of aspirin.

"So what or who was the source?"

"Does it matter? Anna said what she had to say. And they say the truth always hurts"

"It was Nick wasn't it"

I looked at her "When did you start playing little Ms. Investigator?" I asked her

"Since my friend looks like the world had ended and my brother looks sorta okay on the outside but hurts inside".

I got the aspirin. I took a glass and filled it with water, then swallowed the aspirin.

"So Matt, care to tell me what happened?"

I sat down in the kitchen chair and so did Elsa. I told her what Nick had found out Anna was doing behind my back.
"So do you still believe she's not a gold digging bitch?"

"Well let's have a look at some things first."

She removed a picture from her bag and a tape and a recorder. It was the same one Nick showed me.
"Why do you have that? Did Nick show you that too?"

"No. I found it in his office" she said as she switched the tapes. Why were there two. Nick had only one when he gave it to me. "Is this one of the picture Nick showed you?"

"Yes. The guy who she left me for"

"Well she didn't leave you, technically. You broke up with her, that's why she left. If you hadn't broken up with her she wouldn't have left"

"Save me the sermon and get to the point which by the way I think is pointless"

"Well, the guy in the picture is Jason"

"How the hell do you know him?" I was surprised my sister knew him

"Well when Kat came to talk to me about Anna a few days ago, he came along with her. Kat introduced him as her boyfriend"

What?!

She had a little smile playing in her lips "Still think this is pointless?"

I didn't say a word.

She moved on to the tape and played it. The same one Nick made me listen to.

"That sound like proof enough to know that Anna's a gold digging bitch?"

"Lets listen to the second tape to be sure" she said like she knew something I didn't.

It was the same one with the first...wait a minute. It sounds like the opposite of what Anna said in the first tape. Almost like the first one was made out...

I looked at Elsa in shock. She was smiling.
"That sound like proof enough to know that Anna's not a gold digging bitch?" She said

She stole my line

"What the hell was that?" I asked her

"Sounds like the original tape to me, the real one" she said

"Where did you...?"

"Found it inside a brown envelope in Nick's office"

"But it wasn't there when he gave them to me"

"He wouldn't be that stupid to put it there when he wanted you to break up with Anna"

"But why would he do that?"

"Cause you ruined his sister. Cause you treated Anna like you should have treated his sister. You never saw it but I did"

"Saw what?"

"The change in Nick after you broke up with his sister. He became vengeful. He wanted me and him to get into a relationship, which I believe he would've ended after I had fallen for him just to make you understand the way he felt. When Anna came into your life, you were more happier than ever before and it just made him more determined than before"

My heart was pounding. My thoughts were all over the place. Too many emotions were running through me.
I was boiling with anger cause of Nick.

It's been a week and three months since the break up and I've suffered every single day. All because of Nick. Every single thing I did and said to Anna that night was cause of him. My eyes became teary

"Matt?" Elsa called

I looked at her.
"What have I done, Elsa?" I asked her

"It's okay Matt. Now you know the truth."

"What about Anna. Look where I put us. Look what I did to her?"

"You can't begin to guess what you did to her"

"I need to find her. I need to apologize" I got up to get my car keys

"She no longer stays at her former apartment"

"Where does she stay?"

"I can't tell you. I have to ask her if its okay to tell you"

"What the heck Elsa. I'm your brother for God's sake, tell me where she is now"

"Promise me something first"

"What? Anything?" I was determined to find her and set things right at a cost

"Promise me you'll do everything to win her back" she said

"I don't need to promise cause I wouldn't settle for anything less. I'm gonna get her back"

She smiled and hugged me.

"Now tell me where she is before I break something"

She laughed at me which was annoying in my current state

Well, this is gonna be fun. Missed you guys, missed updating my book. Missed the comments.

Stay tuned for more to come. I hope to end this book this month and begin with the next one which most of you know about. Not gonna mention it till this book is about to end. I don't wanna prolong it.
