It was time for me to clock out and we were just closing up. I heard the bell ring meaning a customer came in. I hate when people come at last minute.

I look up and see Richlyn all by herself.

"What?" I asked.

"I don't need the attitude. I came here by myself cause we need to talk." She said.

"About what?" I asked.

"You and Cameron." She said

"What about us?" I asked.

"Y'all together?" She asked.

"No." I said.

"You couldn't get him anyway." She said sticking her tongue out.

I swing at her tongue and her head fall back.

"Bifth " she said.

"Get the fuck outta my face." I said.

"I goft somfting for that." She said walking out

She walked out of the building and I clocked out. I said bye to everyone else and walked to my car. I went to the school and Jamila was waiting there for me in her volleyball uniform.

"Hey sista." She said getting in.

"Hey boo." I said.

We drove home in silence.

We got out and went inside the apartment. I looked on the door and it was an eviction notice.

We are sorry to inform you that this apartment complex will be demolished started next week. Thank you for the years of renting to us but we must move on.

Man what the hell. I looked in the mail box and got what was in it. We got inside the apartment and I sat on the couch reading the mail.

I saw we had a letter from my mom.

Hey babies,

I know I promised to be gone a week but it's going to be a little longer. I know I do this a lot but this is for us. The man gave me a check for $8,000 and I'm giving it to you both. Please take care of yourselves until I come back.

I look at the check and see that it's under some man named Mark Adams. That's weird cause the man she left here with was named Greg.

A knock on the door brought me out of my thoughts. I walked to it and opened it. It was the landlord.

"Hey Mr. Wallace." I said letting him in.

"Hello Miss. As you probably already know these apartments are getting torn down. I've tried to keep them together as long as I could but a ceiling just fell in over there. I have to give this place up. They're some apartments up the road. It's a 2 bedroom 1 bath for $789 a month." He said.

"Could I do that without my mom here?" I asked

"Of course. Your 18 you can do what ever you want. Except drink." He said.

"Is their office still open?" I asked.

"Yes ma'am they close in 45 minutes. I'll call and tell them I sent you." He said.

"Okay thank you so much." I said.

He nodded and walked out.

"JAMILA LETS GO." I said

She came running to me confused.

"Where we going?" She asked.

"To look at new apartments." I said.

She nodded and we walked out.

I drove to the apartments 3 blocks down and they were maybe 85% better than our old one. I parked at the office and we went in.

"Hello may I help you?" A man said at the front.

"Mr. Wallace sent us." I said.

"Ah the sister. Come on in, I'll show you some of our apartments." He said leading us to the back.

We sat at the desk and he handed us a folder. I flipped through and looked at all the apartment. I saw one that fit us perfectly. It had 2 bedroom and 2 bathrooms. It was furnished and had cable and internet.

This is 100 percent better than our old apartment.

I show Jamila and she nod and smile.

"We want this one." I said showing him.

"Well that's $1,073 a month but since Wallace spoke to me I'll bring it down to $850 a month but you can't be late or you will have late fees. Now would you like to fill out the paperwork today or tomorrow?" He asked.

"Will I be able to move in tonight?" I asked.

"If you would have came earlier then yes but as for now no because we are about to close. You can stop by tomorrow and fill out the paperwork then we can have you moved in tomorrow." He said.

"Okay thank you sir." I said shaking his hand.

Jamila shook his hand too and we left.

"What's gonna happen when mom get back?" Jamila asked me.

"I don't know but she's not coming back any time soon." I said getting in the car.

"Mila?" She said.

"Yeah?" I said.

"Mikah said he going to a party with his brother but I wanna see him tonight. Am I being annoying or something?" She asked.

"I mean you literally just spent the night at his house and you saw each other in school. But I mean if you want ya man tell him." I said.

"Nah imma let him have fun tonight. It's just me and you." She said.

"Umm Cameron want me to come and chill with him." I said.

"Umhuh chill and make babies." She said.

"No ma'am no babies coming from me." I said.

"Why, you would be a great mom. You basically raised me and look at me? Beautiful and great as fuck." She said.

"You right I am a great mom." I asked.

"Anyway have fun on your little fuck date." She said.

"Nah I'll just stay with you." I said.

"Nope go ahead and have fun." She said.

"Alright." I said.

"Can you take me to Kimbella house first though?" She asked.

"Yeah." I said.

I dropped her off at Kimbellas and then drove to Cameron house. When I pulled up I saw him outside talking to Mikah, Ice and Malik. I got out the car and walked up to them.

"You finally decided to come." Malik said.

"Why you got on your work clothes?" Ice asked.

"I came her to chill with Cameron." I said.

They all looked at Cameron confused.

"I was gonna go to the party with them." He said.

"Why didn't you tell me that earlier?" I asked.

"I just decided." He said.

"Where Jamila?" Mikah asked.

"With her friend. Imma go." I said turned to walk back to the car.

I felt so embarrassed and shamed. Like damn we ain't even talk or nothing and I look stupid.

I came to chill with cam.

What the fuck was I thinking?
