Chapter 2: Tomato Sauce

Thank god it's Friday.

Currently I was snuggled on my couch with a packet of skittles on my lap. I was trying to eat them according to the color order - you know all the blue first then yellow then the reds- but I was extremely impatient so I ended up chomping them down in no order at all.

At the Justice household it was pretty normal to have skittles and two granola bars for lunch as my mother was always out and never had the time to prepare lunch. She would rarely be home as she had a corporate job and was always be traveling overseas. I didn't take my mom's absence to heart because at least she was happier now after the divorce.

The divorce which had shattered my mother. Seven years ago my mom found out my dad was cheating on her with his office assistant (whom I called the skank). My dad left us and ran off with the skank leaving my mom and me all alone.

She was heartbroken. I saw her spend hours on of the couch cocooned in a blanket watching 70s sitcom on Netflix. Her occasional hobby of painting was long forgotten and the only thing she was capable of doing was crying herself to sleep. No matter how much I tried to reach her it was of no use.

Then one day she was all of a sudden normal again like a blooming tree trying to shed of its yellow leaves. We sat on our dining table with an actual home cooked for the first time in months. She cleaned herself up and even tried to hide the bags under her eyes with makeup. I was glad but I knew my father destroyed a little part of her.

Later, she decided to complete her MBA through an online course and join a firm. After which drowned herself in work forgetting all about her sad past.

I was inspired by my mom and someday wanted to be as strong and independent like her. She loved her job and I am glad she's happy now. But a part of me still wants to see my mother not just during the weekends and holidays only. Instead I want to spend every night watching Teen Wolf with her like we used to. My mom was like the biggest fan of Teen Wolf, she even had a crush on Dylan O'Brien. Yeah I know, I have one of the coolest mom.

Ugh why isn't the pizza here? The skittles were definitely not taming my hunger. I had ordered a pizza from this place called Carlos Pizzeria which I swear sells the best pizza in Florida. It was a small place and it was like one of the hidden gems that no one knew about. Unfortunately they didn't even a delivery service till now so I had to drive downtown and fetch one. But according to their new pamphlet, they recently launched a delivery service which was a huge relief. It was my first time trying their home delivery and currently they were late.

All this talk of pizza brought me back to what happened at the cafeteria. I had kissed the Leo Arsen the school's new bad boy smack dab in middle of the cafeteria with the whole student body watching. Fuck I shouldn't have done that! Just thinking about the incident makes me want to bang my head against the wall while chanting "I am stupid".

Although he transferred to school a few months ago but he was quickly getting everyone's attention. Not only did he get into the school's football team but he managed to score all the goals for his team on the first match and guess what our team- the blue tigers won. Not to mention his good looks which makes all the girls in school swarm around him like bees. But I wasn't that type at all. I was the girl who was never noticed and I preferred being that way or else my friends happen to become victim to Jules's bullying just because they were friends with me. I deserved the bullying- all of it because I am a horrible person but not them. They had nothing to do with anything that had happened a few years ago.

But sometimes getting back to Jules for all her misdeeds was worth it. Like the incredulous look on her face was priceless. Only if I could have snapped a photo of her at that moment, frame it and hang it on my wall.

The ringing of the doorbell made me feel a little at ease so instead of finishing the skittles one by one I decided to put a handful of them inside my mouth just to clear off my lap so that I can get up. The sound of the door bell made me want to do a happy dance. The pizza delivery guy was here! Yeah pizza can make me do weird stuff- even make me kiss the school's most popular guy.

I glance at the mirror in the hallway, taking a good look at myself making sure I didn't look like a hobo. My brown locks of hair was a bird's nest so I decided to comb it with my fingers making it look a little presentable. I hurriedly fished out a 10 dollar bill from my wallet which was sitting on the coffee table and retreated towards the door. I opened the door to see the delivery guy with his back towards me on his phone while holding the pizza on the other hand.

I patiently- by which I mean impatiently waited for the delivery guy to finish his call. He was sporting the typical red t-shirt which had the world 'Carlos Pizzeria' written on it in big bold letters . The pizza guy had quite a muscular back and the tight tee was hung onto his body like a second skin. He looked hot from my view of his back, I hoped his front isn't a letdown. Who knew this evening would consist of pizza and some eye candy.

He hung up (finally!) and turned towards me showing me his face. "That will be 8-dollars".

I froze in my place. There standing in front of me was the school's new bad boy- the one I kissed in less than 24-hours- running his hand through his disheveled hair. Before I could hand him the change, I started choking on the skittles by seeing the guy in front of me.

He instantly approached me while I took a few steps back still coughing like a chain smoker. He smirked seeing my reaction and decided to dart towards my kitchen to fetch me a glass of water while I continued to cough and wheeze. Remind me never to gobble down so many skittles all at once again!

I crashed onto the couch and he took a seat beside me- too close to my dismay- and handed me the water while patting my back. Leo Arsen aka popular guy was patting my back as I drank water and avoided possible death from skittles. I started coughing more upon realizing that. After taking a few sips of water, my coughing stopped and I was relieved. How can anyone choke on skittles? Oh wait it's me we are talking about.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I wheezed with a panic-stricken expression.

He smirked seeing my expression, his blue eyes glittering under the light. There was no denying that he was hot. His brown disheveled hair screamed broken hearts and one-night stands while the tight tee wasn't doing a good job hiding his abs either. I couldn't help myself but check him out. In the mean time he bought his lips closer to my ears and whispered " Is that a mistletoe?". His voice sending chills down my body.

My eyes moved to the ceiling. There was indeed a mistletoe hanging right above us. I loved my mom but as much as I appreciated her work her constant forgetfulness was about to land me in trouble. It was early March and some of our Christmas decorations were still on display. I was to blame too as I was too lazy to take them down. Why? Why me god?

Before I could utter a word he leaned in closer lips were hovering over mine, his minty breath fanning my face, "You know what people do under mistletoes, right?".
