Dallas: Never ever shows up but somehow he's still on the roll call and in the system. If he ever shows up it's to sit at the back of class and throw paper balls into your hair. He loves you pick on you, then at the end of the day he's always waiting outside to pick you up after school.

Ponyboy: He's a straight A student, when he shows up that is. Sometimes when Dallas is around Pony skips school, and this leads him to fail test and fall behind. He is quick learner, and does homework out of school all the time. He doesn't need to study much because his brain is like a sponge. Although Pony does get bored with school work easy, because he already knows most of it anyway.

Darry: When he comes near the school, you know there is trouble. The whole gang has Darry as an emergency phone number instead of their parents. So when his old truck rolls into the guest parking lot, you know there has either been a huge fight or someone is bleeding half to death.

Soda: He's never been good at school, so dropped out at age sixteen to work at the local gas station. While at school all Soda would do is take his shoes off and walk around on the grass until someone came to collect him, or yell at him for not being in class. He didn't bother with work, instead scribbled drawings and little pictures on the corner of work papers.

Steve: Surprisingly enough, Steve only works part time at the gas station and goes to school. He is a C average student, that's an increase from his D- which he used to get. Steve doesn't mind school, but knows he won't be going to college ever. Steve does homework in the middle of class, this often gets him detention but it's the only way he can cope with the work load.

Keith: He shows up everyday to school, even after drinking all night long at the poker bar. His favourite subject is lunch, and he doesn't do much school work at all. Somehow he manages to get D's and C's, without working at all. He schmoozes teachers into letting him stay at school, although he should've graduated a year ago and he is in the class a year level above Ponyboy.

Johnny: He dropped out in middle school because of his home life. Johnny never considered school to be a big part of his life, and didn't see himself completing it either.
