"So Johnny," Said Steve, "Are ya going to the rumble later?"

"A Rumble?" I asked. I've always wanted to see one.

"'yeah why ya heard?" Asked Sodapop?"

"Well my brother is always boasting about it and saying he beats them greasers pretty good. I've honestly have always wanted to see one. But I don't think that's possible..." I said.

"Don't worry. I'll take ya," Said Johnny.

"Well we'll beat the socs good. Real good," Said Two-bit. I laughed.

"I hope," I replied.

"So ya goin Johnny?" Asked Ponyboy.

"i don't know.." He started to say.

"You should go, Johnnycake," I said as I took his hand, "i'll be watching you fight,"

"Alright," he agreed to be safe and to holler if he needed help.

The guys were all walking and doing gymnastics while going to the rumble. Ponyboy explained that Darry went to the Y and learned gymnastics. He taught the guys all he learned in the summer.

The rumble was in a field near the park. I hid behind a tree and sat down. I had a perfect view of the battle.

Soon enough, the socs came in Mustangs. All of them lined up on one side while the greasers were on the other side.

Darry stood in the middle with some other guy. They were talking to each other, but from the distance, I couldn't hear(Johnny made me go farther back so I wouldn't get hurt).

A soc hit the first punch to Ponyboy. That looked like it hurt, but he stood up and with Johnny and attacked a big guy.

I looked around and I saw Dally was there too. I thought he probably escaped the hospital just to go to the rumble. He would do that.

I watched the socs too. I wanted to see if any of them would cheat, because not all socs play by the rules. Just like Steve had said it, it was a fair skin fight. No one had any heaters or blades or anything like that. But I was still searching.

After a while, I noticed some socs were going back to their Mustangs. Then all of the socs were gone and that meant that the greasers won!

I jumped out of the bushes and went to congratulate Johnny. I bet a lot of the greasers were surprised to see me.

I hugged Johnny and kissed him, " I'm glad I got a boy like you, brave and strong to protect me from all the bad in the world," I whispered in his ear.
