It was our 8th anniversary together. By then I finished college and was already a nurse.

I woke up and got ready. I let my hair fall onto my shoulders. I didn't put on any grease. Johnny said that for special occasions I should dress real fancy. He meant I should dress like a soc. I only agreed because I love him.

I put on a white shirt and a short skirt. I put only a bit of blush. I'm not the kind to put a whole lot of makeup. I put a little sweater and walked out of my room.

I walked in the kitchen and someone from behind me grabbed me and started to tickle me. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Johnnycake," I said between laughs.

"Morning cupcake," Johnny finally let me go. He went to the stove and turned it on. He grabbed the batter that was in the counter for some reason and poured it on the pan.

"Ya making Pancakes?" I asked.

"You know I only do them in special occasions," He answered with a smile.

We ate some pancakes that for some reason had chocolate chips. I paused, "Johnny are these chocolate chips?" I asked.

"Yup," he replied grinning. h\He put the peanut butter on the table. I immediately started gobbling it. Johnny just stared at me and laughed.

"What?" I asked with my mouth full of food. That made him laugh harder.

"There's peanut butter on your chin," he chuckled.

I blushed and wiped it off, "So what do you want to do today?" I asked.

"Don't you have work today?" Asked Johnny, with a puzzled look on his face.

I totally forgot, "Right! Oh no. I'm sorry. I'll have to go."

Johnny shrugged and smiled, "Sodapop asked if you could come a little earlier. like an hour. He said he had something to do," He had a little mischievous look in his eyes. But I agreed.

I grabbed him and kissed him in the cheek, "love you!" I called out as I left.

When I got to work, Steve was puzzled to see me earlier than usual.

"Johnny said that Sodapop had something to do," I told him.

He nodded, "oh yeah. He had to...do things," He simply said and looked away. I was a little suspicious they weren't telling me something, but simply ignored it.

I was working on a car when Sodapop came and stopped me.

"Johnny is waiting for you outside," he said and grinned.

I left and sure enough, Johnny was leaning on the doorway. He had on jeans and jean jacket, with his hair combed a little. but not too much. he knew how much I loved his messy hair.

"is everything okay, Johnnycake?" I asked. He held my hand. "I'm going to take you out," he said.

"but I have work," I complained. "Sodapop said it was fine. They understand today is..special," he said. I noticed he had one of my bandana in his hand.

"I'm going to blindfold you and take you somewhere, ok?" he said.

"But.." I started to say.

"Do you trust me?" he asked.

"I.."

"Cupcake do you trust me?"

"I... I trust you," he put the bandana around my head and covered my eyes, "Can you see anything" he asked behind me, "No," I replied.

He held my hand and led me through the path. I stumbled a little. It was a long walk, "Where are we going?" I asked.

"To a place," he said.

"Wow. You were real specific there," I said sarcastically.

I heard birds in the distance. "Now sit down..." he led me to a seat, "here"

"Can I take my blindfold out now?" I asked. He said yes.

I took it off and gasped. I was sitting in a little table with a bouquet of flowers in front of me. Chocolate cake was in the middle and Johnny was sitting on the other side. I looked around to see that we were in the park. It was empty and covered in decorations like paper flowers. It was beautiful.

"Johnny!"I turned to him, "Did you do this for me?" I said.

"Anything for you Cupcake," he said with a smile.

He offered me cake and I happily ate some. He ate a piece of it too. We were talking and laughing, and before I knew it, the stars were out.

I looked up, "Aren't they beautiful, Johnnycake?" I said.

He got up and went by a tree. He lit a candle and sat down. He patted the space next to him. I sat down there.

He had his arm around my shoulder. My head in his chest, we looked the stars together.

"What do you like about the stars?" he asked.

"They are so shiny. And there are so many of them. I love it so much..." I started to say.

"Well now you have one more to add to your collection," he said. I looked up and he held up a diamond ring.

I gasped. "Johnny! Wha-wha..," I was speechless.

With his free hand, he lifted my chin so I stared at his eyes, "I've loved you ever since I've met you. We've been dating for years but I waited for you to come out of school so...I can ask you," He smiled.

"You've been my girlfriend for years. I'd like you to be my wife for many more years to come. Candy will you be my wife?" he asked.

I started to cry, "Oh Jonnycake. I've been waiting for this moment all my life. It's been my dream to get married. I always thought I'd be unprepared for this," I said. Johnny's smile faltered a little.

"But you know what," I grabbed his cheek, " If marrying you means getting up every morning, you by my side, knowing my name now be Mrs.Cade, then I do. I do want to marry you," I laughed and kissed him.
