Its August 23rd. My birthday.

At home, my dad just kissed my cheek and rushed to work and my mother ignored me, as usual.

Selena left a post it note on my table saying 'happy birthday sis' and a smiley face. I could hear her lingering outside my door, probably wanting to say something but she didn't. She must not feel close enough to me yet.

Just like every single other year.

I chose to not celebrate my birthday. It made me feel like a burden every year and it put me in a bad mood. A normal day with my friends was enough for me.

Elena and Beth would decorate my locker and sometimes take me out to eat. Alec always tries to get me gifts but every year I tell him no.

This year, i was turning eighteen. I was only hoping that this year would be the same.

I walked down the halls as i gave smiles to all the people that greeted me.

Once i was by my locker, i noticed that for the first time on August 23rd, my locker was empty.

No obnoxiously pink happy birthday sign that Elena always made it her duty to stick on. No funny message Beth would always write with a dark marker that i would have to rub off the next day.

Nothing. They must have forgotten. I tried not to be disappointed because i knew i shouldn't have any expectations. So i let out a sigh and put a smile back on my face.

I took out the book that i needed from my locker and started walking to my first class, not wanting to stand in the crowds of people anymore.

As i started walking, a hand softly gripped my shoulder, stopping me. I looked up to see Justin with a grin of his face.

He gave me a side hug and kissed my cheek twice. I tried not to act surprised at his action. Maybe we're pretending again.

"Happy birthday 'Fie." He said. Oh.

"You remembered?" I asked trying my hardest not to show how happy it made me. Atleast someone remembered. Never thought it would be Justin, but still.

"Of course i did. I mean, you remembered mine." He said as he winked.

I groaned and slapped my forehead lightly.

"I really regret sending that text now." I stated.

On January 10th i sent a text to Justin saying 'happy birthday J'. It was his eighteenth birthday and I felt like being nice for once. He was in New York and obviously we weren't communicating at the time so I immediately regretted sending it but it couldn't be undone because he had already seen it.

And he remembered that apparently.

"Don't, it actually made my day. Knowing that a certain loser remembered my birthday even though I embarrassed her in front of everyone and stopped being her friend for no reason." Justin said.

"Call me that one more time bitch i dare you."

                <<<<<<<<<<

Normally, on my birthday, when i would walk into my first class i would sit down next to Alec. We had a two classes together, Maths being one of them. It automatically made it my favourite class of the year, especially on my birthday because he would wish me a happy birthday and claim that after school we would go get ice cream. And we always would.

This year however, Alec just smiled and looked back down at his phone.

"Hey Alec, what are you doing?" I asked as i watched him text with a smile on his face.

"Just talking to Rachel." He claimed.

I made a 'oh' sound and slumped in my seat, my mood immediately ruined.

My fault for asking

I shouldve known he would mention his beautiful girlfriend that i could never compete with. Stupid stupid Sofia.

<<<<<<<<<<

So, basically no one remembered my birthday.

Beth wasn't even there, Elena just acted like she was in her own little world and Alec paraded Rachel around. By that i mean he would tell me all about her and act all touchy feely around me.

I felt shitty honestly. Of course i did.

But Justin would talk to me non stop, and ironically, he was the one making me feel better.

He would keep an arm around my shoulders and keep me occupied by joking around and making fun of the jocks and cheerleaders that were sat in the middle of the cafeteria. I pretended i hated it but really i was very grateful of him.

"Hey 'Fie, wanna hang out after school?" Justin asked as ate one of my fries.

"Yeah, sure." I said, not paying attention.

Usually me and Alec would go get ice cream but of course now that he has a girlfriend he doesn't have time for his best friend anymore. But i get it, maybe she's not comfortable with him having female friends. Didn't think Alec was one to care about that sort of thing but he must have changed.

Justin probably only said it so that Alec would think we're going out but atleast it gave me something to do.

I looked up and noticed Alec staring at me, frowning.

I gave him a questioning smile only for him to look away. My shoulders slumped once again.

<<<<<<<<<

I rushed up to my room and quickly changed out of my school clothes so i could go downstairs and leave with Justin and go out.

(^ outfit& who I imagine as Sofia)

I rushed back downstairs to find him smiling at his phone.

Once Justin put his phone away, he got up and gestured at me to follow him.

"You ready?" He asked.

I nodded my head and followed him out as i put my phone in my back pocket also.

"So where are we going?" I asked him as i entered the car.

""You'll see."

<<<<<<<

"The fair?" I asked once i got out of the car.

"Yup. I thought it would be nice to celebrate your birthday by making you scream." He said as he smiled mischievously.

I laughed and slapped his shoulder.

"Well, are we going to stay here all day or are we going to go in?"

<><><><><>

Once i stumbled off the first ride, it was called shockwave and rightly so because it shocked me to my core, i held onto Justin's arm as i tried to re collect my self.

"That was such a great first ride to go on." I huffed, placing a hand over my rapidly beating heart.

"Sure was, wanna get cotton candy?" He dragged me away to the stand before i even had time to reply.

>>>>>>>>>>>

I bounced up and down like a little kid on a sugar high.

I had a massive panda in my arms that i had won. Well, tried to win. As cliche as it sounds, Justin had won it for me.

It was the happiest i'd ever felt on my birthday.

I looked up at the sky to notice that it had started to get dark.

But I wasn't about to leave before i went on the Ferris wheel so i took Justin by the arm and dragged him to the guy that let us all in.

Justin chuckled at my excitement and waited with me in line.

Once we finally got in, i bounced my foot up and down as i waited impatiently for it to start.

Justin placed a hand on my leg and said, "stop. You are so fidgety it's distracting."

I raised my hands up in surrender.

"Im sorry okay. I can't help it. I get excited very easily." I defended myself.

Justin laughed at the massive grin on my face.

"Why is that?" He asked.

"I don't know. It's just... Normally the most eventful thing that would happen on my birthday would be going out of the house to eat ice cream with Alec and thats it. I wouldn't do anything. But now i am and it's nice." I replied as i gave him a thankful smile.

"I'm glad." He smiled back.

"But how come Alec didn't ask you out today?" He asked once the wheel started moving.

"He doesn't really spend as much time with me ever since he got a girlfriend. And he also kind of..forgot." I mumbled.

Justin widened his eyes at that.

"He forgot your birthday?" He asked, surprised.

I nodded and then looked around me, taking in the beautiful sight. "It's not that big of a deal." I mumbled and he dropped it.

We sat in silence as the ride went higher.

"Its so beautiful up here."

"Yeah, it is."

Without him knowing, i took my phone out and took a photo of him. He looked so pretty, with all the light from the other rides on his face.

But only because he's Alec's twin. Obviously.

I made a mental note to send it to
him later.

I looked at the picture and smiled, proud of my photography skills. I tapped his shoulder and showed him it.

"You really take the expression 'take a picture, it'll last longer' seriously don't you?" He asked a he laughed.

I huffed and took my phone back.

"Fine then, I'll just delete it." I said.

"You'll still have it in recently deleted though." He stated as he stared at my i phone.

"I'll delete it from there also." I sassed.

Justin laughed and patted my head.

I slapped his hand away and looked back at the sky trying to appreciate the view and ignore the eyes on the side of my face at the same time.

<<<<<<<<<<

We made it home at 8:00 pm which meant i spent four consecutive hours with Justin, without ripping my hair out. To make matters worse, I invited him in to watch a movie too, as if the four hours weren't enough.

Which, they didn't feel like it. It felt like the night was incomplete so after i let him choose the movie and got snacks from the cupboard, i jumped into the couch next to him. Trying my absolute hardest to not cuddle up to him like i do with the rest of my friends.

21 jump street was playing.

I smile in satisfaction as i made my self comfortable and laid my legs on his lap.

I took the bag of sour skittles and started picking out the green ones.

Justin raised an eyebrow but i just mumbled at him to watch the movie.

<<<<<<<<

We were halfway through the movie when the doorbell rang.

I groaned and got out of my comfortable position to open the door.

As soon as I opened the door, Beth came crashing in, pulling me in a bone crushing hug.

"I am SO sorry. I swear I didn't forget your birthday i just had some stuff to do. I also got you a present." She said she shoved a bag towards me. She had red cheeks and really red eyes. Did she cry?

"Beth-"

"I know, i know. I didn't have to but I didn't even call so I'm trying to make up for it. Will you just take it?!" She said as she walked past me.

I laughed and shut the door.

I turned around just in time to see her taking the bag off Cheetos from Justin hands and started eating.

Normally she would stare at him and make dirty jokes, but now that theres food, she has something else to do.

Justin stared at her weirdly as she ate.

She looked up at him and lifted two fingers up as a greeting.

"Oh hi Justin. Didn't see you there." She said.

I laughed and sat on the armrest as i watched the movie and ate chips.

"You know what sucks?" Beth asked all of a sudden.

"That even though i looked through 25 shops, I didn't find one bag of cheese and onion crisps." She stated as she sighed sadly. "Americans are sad."

I laughed an shook my head.

"You are incredibly stupid." I joked.

"Hey!" Beth shouted slightly. She opened her mouth to protest but then she closed it and though for a little while before she nodded her head and said, "Only slightly."
