Y/n's legs hit the water first, plunging in like a nail. The water chilled her to the bone and her limbs felt weak, but she quickly swam up in desperate need for air. Once her head was above the water she took in a big gulp from the cold air, then quickly brought her hand out to check on the vials. There were pieces of glass on her palm, leaving some bleeding spots — only one vial had survived. It should be enough to help Newt for now.

She looked at Thomas, seeing him flipping off Janson. Then her eyes fell on Minho, his head just emerging from the water and looking around, stopping once his eyes fell on her. She quickly swam over, trying to wash away any leftover glass and blood from her hand while still holding on the last vial of Bliss.

Thomas got out first, helping Newt as Minho helped Y/n. ''You guys okay?''

''Yeah,'' Minho and Y/n answered together. Y/n coughed as she stood up, holding on Minho's shoulder for support.

The cocking of multiple guns caught their attention. ''You four, don't move!'' Four soldiers were advancing on them, their weapons up.

''Oh, you gotta be kidding me,'' Thomas said. Minho put out an arm in front of Y/n.

''Take it easy,'' another solider called. ''Uh-uh-uh! Don't even think about it!'' Y/n looked down, seeing Thomas had been reaching for his gun. ''Get on your knees with your hands in the air.''

Just as they were about to do that, the solider closest to them suddenly turned to his comrades, shooting them down with his launcher one by one. Y/n's eyes widened, her mouth hanging open as she wondered what just happened.

The solider walked over to them and took off their mask. If her eyes hand't been wide enough already, Y/n felt like they were about to pop out now. ''Gally?''

''We died, didn't we?'' Y/n asked, looking Gally up and down.

Gally looked at the pair, nodding at them. ''Minho. Y/n.'' He looked up at the floor they'd jumped from. ''You guys are nuts.''

Thomas spit on the ground and turned to Y/n and Minho. ''I'll explain later.'' He took off, Newt following. Y/n and Minho shared a look, as if expecting the other one to have answers.

Y/n and Minho stole two jackets from the fallen soldiers, covering their wet clothes. The five of them ran from the building and hid behind two pots, trying to catch their breaths. Newt suddenly started coughing from between Minho and Y/n and her head quickly snapped at him.

''Newt,'' she said and he looked up at her. His sweaty bangs were covering his forehead and his eye bags had gotten worse. ''You've got the Flare, haven't you?''

Weakly, he managed to nod. ''You, too.''

Y/n nodded and opened her palm, revealing the last vial. ''I've got some Bliss. It's not much, but it can—''

Newt shook his head. ''You need it, too.''

''No, Newt, you need it more right now, you gotta take it,'' Y/n said as she looked at Minho. ''Let me get his sleeve up, I need a vein.''

Minho watched as she got to work. His eyes flew between her, Newt and the Bliss. This was the last one. It would get them to the tunnels, but then what? Was he supposed to loose both of them?

''Minho!'' Y/n called, snapping him out of his thoughts. ''Come on, we gotta do it quicker. Hold him down.''

Newt had started to struggle, refusing to let Y/n inject him with the Bliss. She knew the feeling, not wanting to take it so you didn't become a burden. But she had the means to save Newt right now. He needed it more than her.

Minho held him down as Y/n rolled up his sleeve with great difficulty. She took the vial out of her jacket's pocket. Her sleeve raised up again and she noticed her veins had become even more prominent than before. Was the Flare spreading that quick? She caught Newt's arm and pressed on top of the vial, like Teresa had. A small needle appeared at the end and she quickly struck it in Newt's arm, causing his body to stiffen, then relax.

The blue liquid disappeared, the Bliss now running through his veins. Newt's breathing relaxed and he let his head fall back, his eyes at Y/n. ''You . . . You shouldn't have done that.''

Y/n gave him a smile. ''I know. But we need you in your best shape, Newt.'' A sudden cough ripped out of her own throat and she moved to the side, coughing in her elbow.

''Y/n,'' Minho called and quickly came to her side. Y/n removed her elbow from her mouth and noticed the bloody stains there — Minho saw them, too. ''Y/n, you—''

''Thomas, shouldn't we go?'' Y/n ignored Minho and the sudden pain in her throat and head, looking at Thomas and Gally. ''We can't linger here for too long.''

Thomas looked between her and Newt, then nodded. ''Yeah, let's go. Brenda's got more Bliss with her. You guys will be fine, I promise, just hold on a little longer.''

Gally and Thomas grabbed Newt, who was too weak at the moment, the effects of the Bliss still settling in. Y/n got up as well, her knees wobbly. Minho put one of his arms around her waist, then swung one of her own around his shoulders, almost fully carrying her after Thomas and Gally.

They started moving ahead, leaving WICKED behind. Y/n coughed again as there was a sudden explosion from not too far away, followed by sirens.

''We were supposed to take down WICKED, not the whole damn city!'' Gally exclaimed, but they kept going forward. There was no time to waste.

It was a blur. Y/n's head was really starting to hurt, but not like when she was getting her memories back. Minho was basically dragging her along now, she didn't have the strengt to move herself. The Flare was spreading too quick. Why so suddenly? She was fine just ten minutes ago.

They leaned lower, following after Gally, Newt and Thomas. ''Tunnels are right up ahead. Shit! Stay low! Stay low!'' They hid behind more pots, leaning back on them as Gally looked over to check the military vehicles up ahead.

''Y/n, you okay?'' Minho asked and Y/n nodded, but ended up coughing again. More blood. She was starting to feel really cold, but she wasn't sure if it was from the chill from her clothes or because she was dying. The siren wailing in her ears was making her head hurt even worse.

''Damn it,'' Gally whispered.

Minho looked up, realizing it was oddly silent. ''What are they waiting for?''

The explosion not too far away seemed to answer his question. There was yelling, there were bombs and gunshots, all of which hurt Y/n's ears even more. She put her hands over them, trying to block out all the noises, but it wasn't working.

''Get down,'' Gally said, but she wasn't sure to who.

''Stay down! Stay down!'' Thomas yelled.

Minho leaned over Y/n's hunched back, putting one arm around her and one above his head as debris flew around them.

''We gotta go! We gotta go!''

''Come on! Move! Move!''

Minho grabbed Y/n again and followed after Gally and Thomas, who continued to carry Newt, who was half unconscious by now.

''Brenda, are you there?'' she heard Thomas yell. Her eyes were blurry, she couldn't tell where they were going. Black and Orange were the only colors she could make out, which told her nothing.

They entered a shop to hide into, avoiding an incoming explosion. Y/n fell on the ground, Minho right next to her. ''Y/n, you okay?'' She coughed, this time because of the dust, managing to get herself in a sitting position.

''We're not gonna make it,'' she heard Thomas said. She looked at Minho, at Gally and Thomas, at Newt. Maybe she and Newt weren't going to make it, but the rest had to.

Y/n looked at Newt, who was starting to gain consciousness. His head fell to the side looking at her. She slid her bloody hand in his gloved one, giving it a squeeze. He squeezed back. She didn't like the thought of Newt dying. But it was inevitable, and better them than the others. Their eyes met. He realized what she was thinking and nodded.

She looked forward, her eyes meeting Minho's. ''You guys should go ahead. You might still make it.''

''I'm not leaving you behind, are you crazy?'' Minho said as he put a hand on her cheek. Her skin was damp and her hair was starting to stick to it. She was starting to look like Newt had earlier. ''I'm never leaving you behind, alright? Never. Don't even think about it.''

It was irrational at this point, because Newt and Y/n were going to die. It was inevitable. They were sick and there was no cure. There was only so much Bliss. It was useless. ''Minho—''

''I said don't think about it.'' Minho's eyebrows furrowed. She's never seen him that serious before. She opened her mouth and nodded. Her hand let go of Newt's and she raised it to Minho's cheek as he leaned in, pressing their foreheads together. ''I'm never, ever leaving you behind.''

''Just look for us near the tunnels.''

Y/n and Minho separated and looked at Thomas. His walkie-talkie was to his mouth and Brenda had just cut off the signal.

They were up and about before they knew it. Newt was walking on his own now, so Gally was able to walk ahead of the group with his launcher up. Minho and Thomas had Y/n's arms wrapped around their shoulders, running to keep up with the others.

''We're almost there, Y/n,'' Thomas called out, but received no response. She'd heard him, but didn't have the strengt to answer. She was tired, her body was aching. She wanted to sleep. Maybe if she slept she'd be able to wake up in the Glade, in Minho's and her shared bed, cuddling him before they had to go run the Maze.

They came to a sudden stop, but Y/n wasn't sure why. She wasn't paying attention anymore. She could feel something run down her mouth, but she didn't know what it was. Someone leaned her on something, her head hitting it as she leaned it back. There were voices, her friends talking before two people ran ahead. She wasn't sure who it was.

''Come on, Y/n, Thomas and Gally went ahead to get you Bliss,'' Minho said as he hoisted her up again, this time Newt helping him on the other side. She tried to use her own legs, to lessen the boys' burden, but they only gave out on her, sending her tumbling on the ground.

She reminded herself of Brenda, back at the Right Arm camp. How she'd fallen to the ground, too. How her chest was heaving rapidly, trying to take a breath like Y/n was now. She could hear her name being called, but she couldn't register who it was. She heard someone cough. Newt. Had Teresa given her a faulty Bliss?

''Fuck, where's Thomas?'' Minho yelled as he cradled Y/n in his arms. ''Stay with me, please. I can't loose you, Y/n.''

She opened her eyes — they were still blurry, but she could make the outline of his face. ''Minho.''

''Yes, yes, Y/n, I'm here.'' There was a hiccup between his words. ''I'm here. It's gonna be okay.''

''Minho, the sea is so beautiful,'' Y/n said, imagining the waves crashing at the shore. ''You'll love it there. I'm sure you will.''

''Yes, yes. I can't wait to see it with you, so hold on for me, okay?'' Minho spoke to her, caressing her cheek. She couldn't feel her body anymore, almost as if it weren't her own. Was this how Brenda had felt, too?

''You should sit there at sunset,'' Y/n continued. ''It's so pretty. And you should watch the stars, like we did in the Glade. You would finally be free like them.''

''No, Y/n, we'll be free, remember? I'm not leaving you behind.'' She could see his head shaking. A tear fell down on her cheek.

''Don't cry, Minho, it's okay,'' Y/n said. She couldn't gather the strengt to caress his own cheek. That would be her last regret in life, not being able to comfort him at the end. ''It's gonna be okay.''

''Thomas.''

Teresa's voice echoed through the city, causing Newt and Minho to look up in confusion.

''Can you hear me? I need you to listen to me. I know you have no reason to trust me, but I need you to come back.''

No. Thomas wasn't dumb enough to go back now. It was over. Teresa should know better.

''Thomas, you can save Newt and Y/n.''

She blinked a few times at the words, her sight clearing enough so she can properly see Newt and Minho's faces. Making eye contact with Newt, the two of them knew. Thomas was about to go back.

''There's still time for them. There's a reason Brenda isn't sick anymore. It's your blood. Do you understand? She isn't sick because you cured her. She doesn't have to be the only one. All you have to do is come back. And this will finally be over. Please. Just come back to me. I know you'll do the right—''

There was an explosion in the distance and Teresa's voice cut off. She let out a sigh, leaning her head back on Minho's shoulder. ''Teresa just fucked it up again.''

Newt nodded. ''We can't let Thomas go back, it's too dangerous.'' Newt tried to stand up, but Minho shifted, grabbing his arm and pulling him down.

''You can't reach him even if you try. Let's wait for Gally and Thomas and see what happens.'' Newt contemplated for a moment, looking off at the distance. Then he kneeled down next to Y/n and Minho again.

Y/n looked up at Minho, who was looking where Newt had been looking. He looked so pretty, despite how bruised and tired he was. She was most likely about to die, but she was glad he would be there in her final moments and they could be free together, if only just for a bit.

''Minho!'' she heard Gally's voice yell and she closed her eyes, relaxing her body. They'd made it. They had the Bliss. She couldn't fight against it anymore, she knew Minho would force her to take it, even if it was the last thing he did.

''It's okay, Y/n, they're here,'' Minho said, kissing her damp forehead. Someone lifted up her sleeve and she cracked her eye open for a moment, catching sight of Brenda next to her, pressing on the small Bliss container so the needle would appear. Y/n closed her eyes and not even a moment later her body relaxed fully, the Bliss settling in her system.

''It's going to be okay. I love you.'' was the last thing she heard before her mind shut down, finally able to relax, her last prayer being for Thomas to make it back alive.
