She was alone in a room. There was a bed and a small table, as well as two doors across from her. She was sitting on the bed with her feet dangling, too short to reach the ground. There were no windows, the only light being provided from a lightbulb hanging in the middle of the ceiling. A metal plate was put on the wall, right next to the door. W.I.C.K.E.D., the plate said.

The heavy door was suddenly opened and in walked two heavy armored men along with a blonde woman. Her red-tinted lips were upturned in a gentle smile.

''Y/n, we'll be bringing you to meet the other kids now,'' the woman spoke - she sounded gentle, making Y/n want to trust her.

''The other kids?'' Y/n asked in her small voice. ''Why have I never met them?''

''Because it was never the time, my dear,'' the woman spoke as she put her hand out. ''Come on, now, you don't want to waste time.''

Y/n took a moment before she slid off the bed and slowly made her way towards the woman. She took the woman's bigger hand with her small one and followed after her. The two, along with the guard behind them, walked down the plain hallways. Y/n kept her eyes ahead, wondering where the other kids were.

A window appeared. Y/n was too short to see inside, but there were a few heads moving around. She didn't dare move, not wanting to anger the woman. They stopped in front of a door and the woman took a card out of her pocket, swiping it through a card reader and the door opened.

Boys. There were multiple boys inside the cafeteria. Y/n looked around, thinking her eyes must be deceiving her. Alas, the more she looked, the more convinced she became there were no other girls around.

''Go on, now, Y/n,'' the woman urged her, but Y/n didn't move from her place. ''Is there something wrong?''

Y/n looked up at the woman, opened her mouth and closed it again. She took another look at the boys, locking eyes with one - dark hair, a raised eyebrow. He was sitting with two more boys, who'd noticed her staring and also turned to look.

''There's . . . no problem.'' Y/n let go of the woman's hand and stepped through the door, immediately feeling all eyes on her. A sound behind her caused her to jump. She turned around, only to be faced with the door, and gulped.

''Hey.''

She looked forward again, seeing the boy she'd made eye contact with before. He was standing in front of her, his hands on his hips. He wasn't much taller than her, but she was still looking up at him.

''Yes?'' she asked.

''You're a girl,'' the boy pointed out the obvious.

Y/n quirked an eyebrow. ''I thought that was obvious enough.''

''We don't have girls here,'' the boy said. ''Why're you here?''

''Dunno.'' Y/n shrugged. ''The Chancellor brought me here.''

Y/n rubbed her forearm as she took a look around, noticing all the boys still looking at her. The boy took a notice. ''Come on, you can sit with us.'' Unsure of what to say, Y/n followed. The boy turned to face her. ''I'm Minho, by the way. That's what they call me, anyway.''

''I'm Y/n,'' she said. ''I think. I'm not used to the new name.''

''Don't think any of us are,'' Minho said as he grabbed her hand to pull her to walk quicker. ''Say, Y/n, do you like bread?''

''Good plan, Thomas,'' Minho said. '''Just hear what the man has to say.' Really worked out for us.''

''Shut up, Minho.''

Y/n opened her eyes, a slight ache in her head from the sudden flashback she'd gotten. She raised her hand to hold her head. She looked towards Minho, only to find him already looking at her with furrowed eyebrows.

''Maybe I can reach the rope.'' Thomas tried to lift his body, albeit unsuccessful.

Y/n let both her hands fall down again and groaned. ''When I get my hands on that little bitch, I'll-''

''Enjoying the view?'' Y/n shut up as Jorge entered the room, approaching the Gladers with his cane.

''The hell do you want?'' Thomas asked.

Jorge chuckled. ''That is the question. My men want to sell you back to WICKED. Life has taught them to think small. I'm not like that. Something tells me that you're not either.''

''Is the blood rushing through my head or is the shank not making any sense?'' asked Minho.

''I think it's just the old man,'' Y/n said. ''Shit, I feel like I'm gonna throw up.''

Jorge threw Y/n a dirty look before looking back at Thomas. ''Tell me what you know about the Right Arm.''

''I thought you said they were ghosts?'' Newt spoke.

Jorge looked at him. ''I happen to believe in ghosts,'' he said. ''Especially when I hear them chattering on the airwaves.'' He walked up to the lever that held their ropes up and gripped it. Y/n shot Thomas a panicked look. ''You tell me what you know, and maybe we can make a deal.''

''We don't know much.'' Thomas said.

Jorge took a moment before pushing the lever forward. Y/n screamed as her stomach dropped, gasping for breath as the Gladers fell one level down.

''Okay! Okay, all right,'' Thomas pleaded him. Thomas told Jorge everything they knew and before Jorge could comment, one of the men who'd restrained them earlier entered the room. Thomas questioned if Jorge wouldn't help them, but Jorge and the man simply left.

Y/n sighed as she watched them walk out. ''Have I ever mentioned how much I hate adults?''

It took some time, but Thomas eventually pulled Teresa towards himself, having come up with a plan. ''Minho, you ready?'' Thomas pushed Teresa in Minho's direction and Minho quickly caught her. He pushed her forward and she tried to catch on the lever, but unsuccessful.

''Push harder, Minho,'' Y/n called out as Minho caught Teresa again.

It took a few times but Teresa managed to catch herself on the lever, pulling it towards her and sending the Gladers another level down. Y/n felt her stomach drop again and a small yelp. Teresa sat down on the edge and untied her feet, then moved on to Aris.

''Good evening!'' Janson's voice suddenly filled Y/n's years and she felt shivers run down her spine. Her eyes quickly fell on Minho, only to find him looking back at her already. ''This is the World Catastrophe Killzone Department. We have your compound completely surrounded.''

Janson continued talking as the Gladers continued working on untying their legs. Minho pulled Y/n from the pit, sitting her down on the edge and quickly bending down to untie her feet. ''Are you okay?'' he asked and Y/n quickly nodded.

Once everyone was untied, Thomas started leading them all towards the exit. ''Okay, let's go, let's go!''

The cocking of a gun was heard and everyone looked ahead - the man who'd walked out with Jorge earlier stood in front of the Gladers, pointing his gun at them. Everyone stopped, watching the man, unsure what to do. Minho slowly pulled an arm in front of Y/n.

The man slowly started approaching and Thomas spoke. ''We're not trying to cause you any trouble, okay? We just got to get out of here.''

''Is that so?'' the man asked. He pulled up a walkie-talkie. ''Janson, I got 'em for ya. I'm bringing 'em down. Don't shoot us. Come on, let's go.''

As the man approached, Thomas pushed his hand away and the man fired the gun in the air. Y/n quickly covered her head and watched as Thomas struggled against the man, then head-butting him. The rest of the boys tried to help, but the man managed to regain his composure and pointed his gun at Thomas again. ''You little bastard!''

There was another gunshot. Y/n jumped back, looking at the back of Thomas' head. She thought Thomas had gotten shot, but the man suddenly dropped to the ground, a hole on the back of his head. Everyone looked up to see the girl from before with her gun up.

''No way,'' Y/n said, dropping her hands.

''Come on,'' the girl said as she gestured towards the door. ''Come on! Let's go!''

The girl may have looked like a bitch before and may have been the reason for their situation in the first place, but Y/n still ended up the first one following after her. Thomas and the others quickly followed, not noticing Teresa staying behind, looking at the walkie-talkie.

As the Gladers and the unknown girl ran through the building, music started to play through the speakers. Y/n didn't have the time to appreciate the fact she was hearing actual music for the first time since she could remember. They climbed up a few flights of stairs and saw Jorge, who had a bag thrown over his shoulder. ''Brenda! We don't have much time! Let's go, let's go, let's go! Right this way!''

Jorge opened two double doors, revealing a zip line leading to the next building. All Gladers stood back, watching in disbelief. ''Oh, you gotta be kidding me,'' Frypan said.

''Plan B, hermano. You kids wanna get to the Right Arm?'' Jorge looked at the teenagers. ''I'll lead you to them. But you're gonna owe me.''

Y/n pointed an accusatory finger at him. ''Why should we trust you, old man? You hung us over a hole.''

''You don't have any other choice, hermana.'' Jorge pulled down a holder and leaped forward. ''Follow me!''

Y/n's mouth hung open as she watched how casually Jorge just jumped out of the building. Brenda pulled down another holder. ''Alright, let's go! Come on!''

''Go! Everyone, go,'' Thomas urged his friends and Minho quickly took the next holder.

For a split second, he turned to Y/n, said, ''I'll meet you on the other side.'' And then he was off.

''Okay, girlie, you're next,'' Brenda pulled down another holder and caught Y/n's jacket, pulling her towards the zip line. Y/n took hold of the holder, wrapping it around her wrist a few times to secure she won't fall down. She looked at Brenda, who gave her a nod. Y/n took a breath and ran forward, throwing herself off the building.

She tried her best, really. But as she hung in the middle of two buildings, going at such a high speed and having WICKED lights being pointed at her, Y/n couldn't help herself but scream.

It ended as soon as it started. She stumbled as her feet hit the floor and she dangled from the string, so Minho quickly grabbed her wrist and unwrapped it, then pulled her away from the way just in time before she got pummeled from the incoming Teresa. Brenda and Thomas must've been right behind her.

Y/n breathed heavily as she laid against Minho's chest, looking up at him. ''I really need a break.''

Minho snorted and nodded in agreement. ''Yeah.''

Then song ended and the building exploded, taking down everything and everyone inside.
