Several Hours Prior-

Max's POV-

In Max's Nightmare-

Run. Thats all I could process at that second. Just run. They were closing in, ready to either posses me or kill me.

I was in a meadow, surrounded by the forest, with lush flowers of many kinds and different colors. As I explored the meadow I was approached by 3 spirits. They were of Compassion, Wisdom, and Command. All were spirits of good, so I suspected nothing was wrong. But I was concerned for them because they were in our world and not in the Fade.

"Greetings my child, what brings you here?" asked Command.

"I was only exploring, nothing more", I answered truthfully. "This place is very beautiful".

"Thank you", said Compassion."Would you like to stay for a while?" I thought about it for a minute. It was almost dusk, so I needed to get back to my camp.

"No thank you, I'm only passing through" I answered. Anger flashed in their eyes, making me raise an eyebrow in confusion.

"We won't allow you to leave", said Wisdom, voice almost a growl. I started to back away slowly.

"Let's show him what we really are!" yelled Command. Then the spirits began transforming, into true horrors. Demons. Wisdom became a Pride demon, Compassion became a Rage demon, and Command became a Fear demon. Once they were fully transformed they started to approach me. I did the only thing that my mind would allow to process... attack. I waved my hands, trying to sommon an ice storm. But it didn't work. I tried throwing fireballs at the demons. I couldn't even produce a flicker of flame. I started to panic, realizing that the demons had blocked my magic. I began to run back to the forest, the demons chasing me. I was almost to the trees when I was tripped. I then got electrocuted. The Pride demon had created a chain of lightning and thre it at me, tripping me and electrocuting me in the process.

The Rage demon then made a ring of fire, trapping me inside the wall of flames with them. The Fear demons then made 2 enormous spiders appear from thin air, making me start to hyperventilate. The Pride demon made another lightning chain, threw it, wrapped it around my legs, and started to drag me towards them. I couldn't move or speak. I just let it happen, coming to terms with my death. The demon dragged me until I was at its feet. It then made made 2 more lightning chains, raised them above its head, and crashed them on my body. I screamed.

End of Nightmare

I jolted awake, shaking and gasping for breath. My heart was racing, threatening to burst out of my chest. After a few minutes I calmed down, and looked up at the sky. The sun was at its highest, so I guessed it was around noon or so. I didn't bring my phone with me, I didn't see the point in having it, so I really didn't know for the time sure. My stomach growled at me, so I got some apple slices (honey crisp because the others are trash) and a jar of peanut butter out of my bag, dipped one of the apple slices into the peanut butter and took a huge bite.

I kept replaying the night-terror in my head, over and over again, trying to figure out what it could mean. It felt so real, so vivid. I shoved the night-terror to the back of my head. There's no point in working myself up over a dream that probably means nothing. I finished the apple slices and peanut butter and began to pack my things back into my duffel. I needed to keep moving. The night-terror kept bothering me though. I needed to clear my head. I had heard of a lake a few hours from here. There was a legend that powerful, but kind spirits lived in its waters. They were very said to be very wise, so I decided to see if the legend was real and speak with them. Maybe they could explain my night-terror.

After I finished packing I put my duffel over my shoulder, grabbed my staff, and preformed a location spell, by making my staff glow and as I would get closer to the lake it would get brighter and brighter. I took a few steps West, it dimmed. I took a few steps East and it became a little brighter. So I started walking, every so often my staff would get brighter and brighter.

TIME SKIP TO AROUND 5:15-

I was sitting on a fallen log, trying to catch my breath. I was at the top of a hill, just a few minutes from the lake. I had been walking for 5 hours, taking a break here and there, but I was still worn out. I had extinguished my staff a minute ago, because the hill was high enough to where I could see the lake below me in a large clearing. Also it was bugging the fuck out of me because of how bright it was getting. I took a deep breath and started to walk down the hill. As I reached the bottom my amulet started to glow. I froze. That only meant one thing. Danger. My amulet always warned me when danger was around, that way I could ready myself. I willed it to stop glowing and it went out immediately. Then I heard it. A twig snapping. I began scanning my surroundings, the feeling of being watched bearing into me.

"Show yourself!" I shouted. "I'm not afraid!" Boy would I ever be so wrong. 8 giant wolves came out of the trees, trying to surround me. There was no way in hell I would let them. I ran as fast as I could into another direction the wolves hot on my trail. I tried using magic to scare them away. I levitated fallen braches and big rocks, making them fly at the wolves. They easily dodged them. They were smart, too smart... then it clicked. They were werewolves! I had accidentally waltzed into their territory! I. Was. Fucked. I kept running, until I reached a tiny clearing, stopping like an idiot to catch my breath.

In 2 seconds flat the wolves had me surrounded. I was trapped. I got into my battle position ready to fight, but not stupid enough to make the first move. I made my staff glow with fire magic, while standing extremely still. I glared at the few wolves I had in my line of vision, and saw one of them making their eyes glow pitch black. She was probably using their special mind link to contact someone. Probably their alpha, because these wolves were HUGE, but not enough to be the alpha. So I waited patiently for him/her to arrive. I still kept my position and glare, just to be safe.

A few minutes later 2 more wolves arrived at the clearing. Both were giants compared to the others. One wolf was a nice mixture of browns with gold tints here and there. He had vibrant green eyes. The other wolf however was clearly the alpha. He was largest wolf there, he had midnight black fur, and beautiful, deep royal blue eyes. He must have said something through their mind-link, because his eyes went pitch black before going back to their natural blue. He then started shifting into his human form, the others staying as wolves. When he was fully shifted i could barely stay in position and keep my glare.

The alpha looked no older than 18, 6'4, so muscular to where you could see his muscles under his shirt, short styled black hair, nice sharp jawline, the same beautiful deep royal blue eyes, naturally tanned skin, with pearly white teeth. I took a deep breath, composing myself. He might be insanely attractive, but I couldn't let my guard down. He could be dangerous for all I knew.

"But he's not", a small voice whispered in my head.

"How do you know?" I questioned the voice.

"Just look into his eyes", the voice answered. I could hear an eye-roll.

I looked into his gorgeous blue eyes and the most wonderful smell took over me. It was my favorite scent... eucalyptus mint. I closed my eyes, taking in the smell. It was amazing! I opened my eyes to realize... the smell was coming from HIM! I then felt a very small tug in my chest, like an invisible rope was pulling me to him. I knew what it was instantly... THE MATE BOND!

I was this werewolf's MATE?! This makes no sense! I'm a mage! He's a werewolf! I don't know what their goddess was playing at, but I'm not sure if I like it or not. As all of these thoughts spun in my head, I noticed the alpha was only a few feet away from me, slowly approaching. Without thinking, I raised my staff. And he stopped. I didn't use magic. He stopped from shock. I could see traces of hurt in his eyes, but I stayed strong, regretting what I did. But again, without thinking, I said this-

"Don't. Take. Another. Step.", I warned, glaring at all of them. "Or become nothing but ash in the wind!"

To be continued...
