Max's POV-

"Why is everyone looking at me like that?" I ask. Once the words were out of my mouth, they averted my gaze. Well, most of them. Lucas, now shifted back, was peering at me mysteriously. Not acknowledging it, I looked down to see the red haired boy clinging to Lucas's leg. I slowly approached him, and knelt down to one knee.

"Hello", I said, my voice gentle, as to not frighten him. "My name is Max. What's your name?" He shyly turned his face to meet mine.

"M-Mason", he stuttered. I gave him a sympathetic look, and very slowly held my hand out for him to take, setting my staff on the hardwood floor. Mason looked at my outstretched hand, and very cautiously, took it.

"Is the bad man gone?" Mason asked, still having a bit of fear left in his innocent, clover green eyes. I gave him a warm and gentle smile.

"Yes, he's gone", I responded. "He can't hurt you anymore." The little boy responded by swiftly burying himself in my chest, wrapping his tiny arms around my torso. After a second of shock, I too wrapped my arms around Mason's small frame. As Mason held onto me tightly, Winter purred with joy. I understood why he would. I don't even know the boy, yet I feel like that this was just right. Like this was meant to happen at some point. Winter continued to purr, and I honestly thought he would turn into a cat with how much he was purring.

"My pup", Winter said in my head. I grinned at that. But another thought came to me, replacing my grin with a frown.

"Lucas and I are still very young", I answered back. "I'm not of age still, and we're not ready to have a child yet. Mason seems like an amazing kid, but this is a little too quick." Winter snorted.

"My pup", Winter fired back, stubbornly. I gave a light chuckle. "Shade agrees." I just chuckled again.

"Once I become of age, and the danger with Clara is gone", I reasoned. "We'll have a child then. Besides, having a child is a giant step. I don't know if Lucas and I are ready for something like this. At least, not yet." Winter just snorted again and shut me out. Rolling my eyes at him being unreasonable, I looked down to see Mason falling asleep in my arms. My heart melted at the sight of how adorable he looked. I inhaled, taking a good whiff of his scent. It consisted of strong honeysuckle and a hint of jasmine, but it smelled nice and not overwhelming. I could tell he was either an Omega or possibly a little bit Alpha, as Alphas and Omegas have the strongest scents in werewolf packs. Looking up from Mason, I turned to the people staring.

"Anybody know him personally?" I asked. "His parent's names, his birthday, anything?" Some of them gave each other nervous glances, but eventually a woman Omega stepped up.

"I know about him, Alpha Max", she said. "I'm the head nurse for the orphans."

"Go on", I pressed.

"His name his Mason Peters", she replied. "His mother's name was Ellie Peters, his father Levi Peters. They were a happy mated couple, Ellie becoming pregnant within a year of them finding out their mate bond. However, while Ellie was in labor, there were complications. Ellie bled out as Mason was being delivered, and she passed while the doctor before Alice took over tried to save her. Levi was heartbroken over his mate's death, and he never was really the same afterwards. But he picked up the pieces enough to take care of his son. He was an amazing father, even while dealing with his heavy grief. Sadly, he died last year during a rouge attack, being a pack warrior. He died of his injuries in the hospital. Poor Mason has had nothing but death and grief surrounding him all his life." Tears threatened to spill from my eyes, but I kept them in. But barely.

"Does he have any other family?" I asked, my voice a little raspy from holding back the tears. "Aunts, uncles, grandparents, anyone?" The woman shook her head with sadness.

"Both of his parents had no siblings,"the woman answered, the same amount of sorrow in her voice. "And his grandparents passed away before he was born. He's alone." I held the little boy closer to me as tears once again threatened to spill from my eyes. This time however, I let them fall. I was about to answer, when Lucas, much to my gratitude, spoke for me.

"Not for much longer", he said. "Once Max is of age, and the danger that Clara is stirring up has been eliminated, Mason will live with us. Max and I will adopt him as ours. As long as Max is willing to have a child, and Mason wants us to adopt him." Lucas gave me a worried glance, to which I responded with a reassuring smile.

"I couldn't agree more, Lucas", I said. "As crazy as it sounds, I already feel a connection with Mason. Winter has already put a claim on him." Lucas grinned, and knelt beside me.

"I know this is fast, and very sudden", he said, running his fingers through my hair. "But would you consider having a family, with me? In the future of course." I smiled.

"Of course", I replied. "I've always wanted a family. Especially, with the man of my dreams." Lucas chuckled, and kissed my forehead.

"Where should he sleep?" I asked, looking down at Mason. "He needs to be in a proper bed."

"He'll sleep in our bed", Lucas said. I nodded in agreement, and stood up, still carrying Mason. He stirred a little from my movement, but remained asleep. I turned back to the woman.

"Thank you, for telling us his story", I said, gratefully. She smiled warmly.

"Just give him the home he deserves", she answered, humbly. The crowd dispersed after that, everyone going about their business.

"Could you get my staff Lucas?" I asked him. He nodded, and picked it up for me. Thanking him, I teleported him, Mason, and myself to mine and Luca's room. Making the sheets draw back and closing the curtains just by looking at them, I gently laid Mason down in the center of the bed and covered him up.

"I'll stay with him", I said to Lucas as he handed me my staff, and I sat it in the corner of the room. "That way when he wakes up I can comfort him if he gets scared." Lucas gave me an amused look, while I replied with a confused one. "What?"

"You know I'm staying as well, right?" Lucas answered. I smiled sweetly at him.

"You're amazing, you know that?" I said. He chuckled.

"And you're super caring and sweet", Lucas replied. Slightly blushing, I carefully climbed into bed, holding Mason close to me protectively. Lucas climbed into bed as well, but on the opposite side of Mason. He too draped his arm protectively over the boy and carefully held my hand.

"I love you Max", Lucas said. I blushed deeply, and quietly said "I love you too" back to him.

To not wake Mason up, we just looked into each other's eyes and spoke through the mind link, discussing our next move with Clara, and Mason.

Westwood Clan Lands:

Clara's POV-

It took every once of my body to not burn my house down in a fit of rage. He figured out I was spying on them! Levitating the Location Pensieve a few feet off of the ground, I sent it flying across the room. It smashed into the wall, leaving a massive hole in the wood. Feeling a little bit better, I grabbed my staff and went outside.

Stopping around 50 feet from the house, I raised my staff and left hand, and focused on the Fade, and the Veil. Channeling powerful magical energy into my staff, it began to glow bright green. Once this happend, I thrust it, like I was stabbing the air.

Once my arm was extended to full length, my staff appeared to peirce the air in front of me. When in reality, I was opening a doorway into the Fade. You could faintly see the Fade on the other side of the deformed gateway. It was truly a ghastly place, and there is a sickening green tint that is always engulfing the world. Setting my staff down, I took a little knife from my pocket and scraped it against my left palm. Blood began to spill from my injured plam, and I took my bloody hand and let some blood fall into the tear in the Veil.

A giant blast of energy in the form of pale green light shot out of the rift, and a sickly green jet of light emitted from the rift and onto the ground. Once the jet of light went away, a dark patch stained the ground, with evil green veins running across it. The patch started to bulge, until it burst, and green light shot out of it. A Pride Demon rose from the light, electrical magic radiating off of the demon's scales.

Before the demon could attack me, I raised my right hand and green energy overtook it. The energy then became a small beam of light that connected with the demon's head. A pale green light briefly shimmered in the demon's pitch black eyes, then went back to normal. I smiled in content as the demon stood still, waiting for my instructions. Picking my staff back up, and pointing it back at the rift, I made a blast of lime green light shoot out of it. Once the jet of light hit the rift, the rift started to buckle into itself. Focusing my energy on the Veil, I applied more power onto the rift. The rift kept buckling until it was almost gone. Once this happend, I sent one more powerful surge of magic through my staff and into the beam of light.

I then jerked my staff back, cutting off the beam of light. The rift then sent a blast of energy, before doing a small explosion. Once the lingering Fade energy had diminished, there was nothing left. The rift was gone, the tear in the Veil now healed. Humming with content, I turned to the Pride Demon, that was now bound to me.

"Come", I commanded it through the invisible bond between us. The demon instantly obeyed, following me back to the house.

"Just wait for what I have in store you you, Lucas Williams", I whispered, darkly.

To be continued...

Clara's staff. Her staff is only with ice magic because that's her mastered element, with a specialty of Rift Magic.
