Isaac's POV

"Fuck!" I swear loudly, throwing my phone against Angela's hallway when I realized that Hailey has blocked my number, again.

"Hey, you okay?" Dion pops his head in from the living room.

I shake my head, running my hands through my hair. I'm so fucking pissed right now that my hands are actually shaking.

"What's going on, KP?"

I take a deep breath and look down at my shattered phone on the floor, aggravating myself even more than I already was. I walk over to it, and pick it up. "I gotta run, you cool staying here?" I look back at Dion.

He nods, "what's up? What's got you so hostile?"

I look over at my best friend, concern written all over his face. I shake my head, still confused as hell from our phone call.

"Hailey," I sigh, looking down at my phone.

"What about her? She cool?"

I shake my head again, "I don't fücking know." I look up at Dion, "David's on my dad's payroll."

Dion crosses his arms along his chest, leaning against the wall, "no kidding, I'm guessing she didn't take it so good?"

I shake my head for a third time, "she's the one that told me," I point towards my chest, and see the immediate confusion on Dion's face. "I didn't fücking know, I swear I didn't. But she has it set differently in her mind though, she swears that I was hiding it from her."

"Maybe there's some type of confusion," Dion attempts to make the situation better.

Again, I shake my head, "she sounded pretty fücking sure.. I just got her back, Dee, I can't afford to lose her again, I didn't do anything!"

Dion pushes himself off of the wall, "it's fine, KP, you're fine." He places his hands on my shoulders, "relax. She's just worked up right now, let's give her a few minutes to breathe."

"Why the fuck wouldn't he tell me David was a part of his payroll? You'd think he'd mention it by now!"

Dion shakes his head, "maybe that's why he was so reluctant on you dating Red to begin with."

"Then he should've fuckin' said something!" I brush Dion's arms off of me.

"Would it have mattered though? Would you have backed off?"

"No," I admit. "But at least I wouldn't have been so blind sided! I wouldn't feel so god damn betrayed like she's probably feeling right now!"

"I'm sure he had his reasons, Isaac, talk to him before you escalate things."

"She blocked my number," I murmur walking past him and back into the living room. "How the hell am I gonna get her back this time?"

"Get who back?" Angela questions.

She's sitting on the floor next to her couch, playing with her new fury friend that Dion has bought her. He didn't get her the Corgi like Hailey suggested she should, he ended up getting her a Pomeranian puppy. We were leaving the hospital when the seller texted Dion that the puppy was ready for pick up.

"Red's gon' off the rails again," Dion walks up behind me.

Angela quickly snaps her gaze in our direction, "what happened?"

I shrug my shoulders as Angela frowns, clearly confused as to what's going on. Dion walks over to her, he leans down and places a kiss on her forehead, "I'll fill you in later, let me borrow your phone."

She doesn't hesitate, she nods, immediately pulling her phone out of Dion's hoodie that she's in. She hands it to Dion and he quickly tosses it in my direction. "Call her," he says as it lands in my hands.

I look up at him and Angela quickly mumbles her password, "0921." Her dad's birthday.

I input the four digits in her screen and instantly dial Hailey's number, but she doesn't answer, it continues to ring until it hits her voicemail.

I swear under my breath tossing the phone back to Dion, "I have to go, this is fucking pointless, I think we know her by now, she's not gonna answer anyone one of ours calls."

"I'll keep trying," Angela murmurs.

"Get her location from Eddie, go talk to her face to face," Dion implies.

"He doesn't know her location, I called them off of her.."

"Why the fuck woul-" he pauses as I look up at him, giving him a knowing stare. He sighs nodding his head, "go talk to your dad then, give her some time to think, get everything sorted out with your dad before trying to talk to her first."

"What the hell are you guys talking about?"

Dion and I both glance down at Angela on the floor, her fury brown puppy in her arms. "Red thinks that her dad works for Carmelo.."

"And she thinks I was hiding it from her," I add.

Angela immediately frowns while shaking her head, "that's insane."

"But not impossible," I mutter. "My dad has over 50 officers and detectives on his pay roll, I would let it past me if David was one of them."

"That's insane though!"'she exclaims. "That's her dad, he can't be."

"I don't know," I exhale. "She sounded so sure, you should've heard how upset she was."

"How did she find out?"

I shrugged my shoulders, "she hung up before I could ask anything else."

"Maybe it's not willingly, KP, maybe your dad's holding something against him," her voice gets softer towards the end, as if it were to upset me, but at the end of the day this was my father we were talking, he was capable of blackmailing people, it was one of his many special qualities.

"I don't know," I mumble. "I gotta get going, I'll talk to you guys later."

I walk over to Dion, clasping his hand with mind, pulling him in for a bro hug, "let me know what happens with your pops."

I nod my head, " I will."

"Isaac.."

I turn back to Angela, "don't be so hard on yourself, you didn't do anything," she says. "I'll try and talk to her, I'll keep calling."

I nod my head one last time before leaving her house. I call Eddie and Benjamin on the drive home using one of the burner phones I had for work, seeing how mine was completely busted, asking them if they had any trace on Hailey yet. The instant that I realized Hailey had blocked my number I called Eduardo back and had them look for her, but it was too late they had already lost her by then.

"We've already sweeped the area twice, kid."

"I don't fücking care, keep checking!" I snarl. "Check every fücking street, every fucking tunnel, ditch, every fuckin' place that's open! I don't want you guys to come home nor call me unless you've found her!"

Eduardo sighs deeply on the other side of the phone but he doesn't argue, he knows better. "Yes sir, right away."

I hang the call up, tossing the flip phone on to my dash board, all of our burner phones were mainly flip phones, or shitty cheap touch screens.

I see my uncles navigator parked out in our long drive way as I pull up to my house. I don't bother parking my own car in the garage just yet, I leave it parked in front of it, on the drive way as well. Quickly climbing out of it, I slam my door shut and storm in through my front door, instantly marching towards pops office.

The sweetest, tiniest, happiest voice brings me to a complete halt as my baby cousin Jessica runs out of my living room, and is running into my arms.

"Toni!!" She beams with happiness, the widest smile I'd ever seen in my entire fucking life.

"Heeey," I bend down to her level, trying to mirror her same smile, but I clearly fail on account of the shitty mood I'm in.

"I mished you!" She wraps her tiny arms around my neck.

I chuckle softly, trying not to make my shitty mood evident around my five year old cousin. I wrap my arms around her, pulling her into me, "I missed you too, chiquita."

She quickly pulls away, that amazing beautiful smile never growing any smaller, "is Waffles with you?"

I snort softly, "no, princess, he's not. He's with Hailey, he lives with her."

There's a small hint of disappointment in her face but she doesn't lingering onto it for too long. "What were you doing?" I asked.

"Watching a movie with Tito," she says.

"Oh yeah?" I stand back up to my full height and reach for Jessie's hand. "What are you guys watching?" I asked, walking her back into the living room.

"The Croods," she answers softly, her finger now hovering in front of her lips, shushing me, pointing over to the couch with her hand that was just in mine two seconds ago.

I look to where Jessica is pointing over to and find one of my fathers men laying on the sectional, asleep, with one of our tv remote's in his hand, resting on top of his chest.

Jessica immediately leaves my side and sit's on the floor near our coffee table, her coloring books and pencils covering most of the it.

I reach for the closet cushion at the end of my sectional and throw it in Tito's direction, smacking him right in the face.

He immediately bolts up, "what the fu-" he pauses, his eyes instantly widening in horror when he see's me watching him. "Isa- I mean, Mr. Matteo, h-hi."

I glare at him as I take few more steps into the living room, and crouch down next to my little cousin, who's already started coloring. "Cover your ears, princesa."

She nods, immediately placing her hands over her ears, looking in Tito's direction, and back down towards her coloring book, she was so smart for a five year old.

"Mr. Matteo, please," Tito mumbles as I stand back up to my full height.

"Let me make one thing clear, Tito. My father may pay you for a lot of things, one of them being to fucking babysit, not to fucking nap on our couches!" I whisper harshly.

He instantly starts to shake his head, setting the cushion down beside him, "I-I'm s-sorry, sir, it was an accident, it'll never happen again."

I glare at him one last time as I lean down to kiss Jessica on the head, she slowly removes her hands away from her ears, smiling.

"Finish coloring," I smile. "I'll be right back, okay?"

She nods cheerfully and I begin to head out of the living room. Tito's job wasn't really to babysit, I might've over exaggerate a little while being in the heat of the moment. Tito was actually one of the evening guards, hence the reason why he's on Jessica duty.

Uncle Sal never really liked leaving her alone when he brought her over for meetings, one of the guards on shift usually stayed with her if I wasn't home or Nathaniel didn't come, which I'm assuming he didn't.

I don't bother knocking on the door and barge straight into my pops office, something he absolutely loathed, it was actually one of his biggest pet peeve's, not knocking before entering his office.

"I need to talk to you," I grumble immediately, walking up to his grand desk. My uncle Sal is sitting on the other side of it, a couple of papers in his lap, I don't greet him, I simply look back over to my pops. "Alone."

"Where the fuck are your manners at, Isaac?" Pops immediately scolds me. "You know better than to just barge in here!"

"Manners?" I scoff. "Don't talk to me about manners right now!"

"I don't know what the fuck crawl up your ass, kid, but you have about two seconds to lose that fücking attitude!"

I don't say anything in return, I glower for a second when my uncle lays his stack of papers on the desk, "why don't I give you guys some privacy.."

"It's fine, Salvador, stay, whatever my son needs to talk about he could do it with your presence still in the room."

My uncle get off of the chair, walking around it, "Carmelo, please, it's fine, talk with your son, I'll go check on Jessica, make sure that she hasn't scribbled up your walls."

Pops chuckles softly as he gets up off of his seat and walks my uncle over to the door, "I shouldn't take too long, I'll fetch you once we're done."

"Take your time," my uncle says in Italian, before fully stepping out of the office.

Pops nods his head shutting the door behind my uncle, instantly turning around, scolding me. "What the fuck is wrong with you, eh?!"

I don't beat around the bush as I look my father in the eyes, "is David Summers on your pay roll?"

Pops immediately comes to a stop as he walks back towards his seat. He doesn't say anything for a second, he doesn't turn back to look at me, he continues to make his way to his desk, sitting back down in his chair. "How'd you find out?" He looks over at me, the most nonchalant voice I've ever heard him use.

I scoff, "so it's true? You're not even gonna try and deny it?"

"There's no point in lying to you, Issac."

"Anymore you mean. There's no point in lying to me anymore!"

Pops sighs, "Isaac.."

"You gave me so much shit for being with her because of her fuckin' dad, when in reality he was working for you all along!! You knew who she was already, that's why you were so reluctant about her, that's how you knew they were related!"

He shakes his head no, "sit, Isaac."

I walk around the two chairs, taking a seat in the left one.

"I didn't meet that little girl until you brought her over, son, I didn't even know who she was until she said her last name, I figured she was just another pretty face you were into. David made sure to keep his life as private as he could when I recruited him, I didn't even know he had a son, all he said was that he didn't want his daughter to ever get involved, she was never to know."

"Why didn't you tell me afterwards?"

"I couldn't, it wasn't my information to share, it's why I was hoping you two wouldn't work out, I didn't expect you guys to last this long if I'm being honest. I didn't know how much you actually loved that little girl until you fell off the wagon."

"I am your son," I say between gritted teeth. "I deserved to know!"

"And Hailey's David's daughter, Isaac! We had an agreement that I couldn't break! Believe me, i didn't do it to hurt you, son, I would've gladly told you if I could!"

I shake my head without saying anything, not knowing what to say, although so many things were running through my mind right now, I couldn't get myself to speak them out loud.

"How did it start?" I mumble, looking down at the ground. "Why him?" I look up. "What made him so special?"

Pops ignores my questions, asking one of his own, "How did you find out, Isaac?"

"Hailey."

"How did she find out?"

"I don't know," I grumbled. "She was too busy accusing me that I was in on the whole thing for me to actually ask."

Pops doesn't say anything, he simply stares at me for a couple seconds, "she sounds hurt," he says softly. "Meaning she must of found out on accident instead of David actually telling her. Why don't we let her calm down for a bit, we'll all talk together in a couple of days. Let's let the family figure it out first before we intervene."

I slowly nod my head although I want to protest, the last thing I want to do is go days, hours, minutes without talking to her, I needed to fix this as soon as possible, I couldn't afford to lose her, not again.

"I still understand how it even all started."

"The same as the others," pops answers dryly. "I-"

He's about to continue what he's saying, but then stays quiet as we hear a bit of commotion going on outside of his office. I frown and immediately turn to look at him, but all his attention is invested on his two closed doors as he listens in on the muffle voices.

"Wait, stop! You can't go in there, sir!"

Pops and I quickly rise out of our seats as my  dad's double doors burst open, and Hailey's father is now storming in.

"David?" Pops frowns. "What the hells the meaning of this?"

"I quit!" He snarls in return.

"I'm so sorry boss," Mayfield, another one of my father's guys quickly blurts our as he runs into the room. "I tried telling him you were busy," he pants, attempting to catch his breath.

"Close the doors behind you," pops growls, accompanied by a harsh glare as well.

Mayfield nods his head while taking a few steps back, "yes sir, I'm sorry."

"So it's true?" My father scoffs, taking a seat back in his black chair, as I sit down in my own chair. "Please," pops waves over to the empty chair on my right, indicating that he take a seat. "Sit, let's talk."

"There isn't anything to talk about, Carmelo, I'm done, that's it, cut me out."

"Last time I checked that wasn't up for discussion, David. You still owe quite a sum of money, or did we forget already?" Pops stares up at Hailey's dad.

David looks down at me for a couple seconds, a stern expression, then back towards my father. "Did he know?"

"No," I answer bitterly. "I literally just found out by your daughter. She thinks I knew about the whole thing, she thinks I was lying to her as well."

David's facial features soften up for a second as he sighs deeply, "I'll fix it, I'll tell her everything in a couple days when she's calmed down."

"Sit, David." My dad grumbles.

Mr. Summers doesn't hesitate this time, he walks towards the empty chair beside me and takes a seat.

"This deal we have, this agreement between us," Pops point's at himself then to David. "It only stands if you continue to work for me. The second you decide you no longer want to get paid, means that I go back to getting paid, and you do not want to go back to that side of the world. You go back to being a liability," Pops snarls. "And that's not something I'm wiling to risk.. I held up my end of the deal, I kept both of my families out of it, no one knew, your daughter didn't find out who you were on account of me, or my son, but because of you, so no, you can't just quit."

Pops uses finger quotes around the word quit and it takes almost everything in me not to snicker. I actually loved seeing my father use his authority, the kind of power he really held over this city, but this time was different, this time it was towards my girlfriends father.

"She's hate me," David utters quietly. "I'm afraid she won't come back."

I instantly scoff, mildly shaking my head, "you're her biggest fuckin' hero," I turn towards David. He glances over at me and I continue. "I don't think you actually understand how much you mean to her. Hailey could never hate you even if she wanted too," I chuckle softly.

"She's hurt, David, she literally just found out that the one guy she could always count on lied to her. If I know Hailey, and I'm pretty sure that I do by now, she doesn't know how to feel, she doesn't know what emotion to latch onto, she's gonna let it all hit her at once. She's gonna be mad for awhile, and she kind of has the right to be, but she won't hate you, regardless of the fucked up situation you're her dad, you're all she has left."

David doesn't say anything, he stays quiet and actually looks away off to the ground then up to my pops, who weirdly has a small smile on his face.

"I told you my boy wasn't so bad," he smirks looking over at Hailey's father, who's now looking back and fourth from my pops and I.

"I missed judged you, you're not the little shit I thought you would be, you're actually a good kid. I still don't think you're good enough for my daughter though," he says, trying to hide the small smile he's clearly trying to hide.

I snicker softly, "I don't ever expect you to."

David's phone immediately starts ringing in the next second and is shoving his hand into his jacket, pulling his phone out.

"I'm sorry, I have to take this," he say's.

Pops nods his head, signifying that he understands and David's immediately out of his seat and walking further into my father's office, standing near the
